Kenneth M. Gewant, DMD

Up until my mid-30??s, I had just assumed that it was normal that my gums bled when I brushed my teeth, I had tooth discomfort after eating hot or cold foods or liquids and some of my teeth were a bit loose. However, I received a real wake-up call when I visited a new general practice dentist and was told (and I will never forget this) that ??I was in danger of losing 17 teeth? due to the extremely poor state of my gums. To say that I was stunned upon hearing this would be an understatement. Fortunately, this new general practice dentist referred me to Dr. Gewant.

I met Dr. Gewant in the late 1980??s and have been an ongoing patient of his ever since; a 20+ year period. As such, I believe that I am eminently qualified to write this review of Dr. Gewant.

If you subscribe to the theory that ??the proof is in the pudding?, the bottom line is that at age 58, I still have virtually all of my teeth, none of my gums bled when I brush my teeth, I have no tooth discomfort after eating or drinking anything regardless of how hot or cold it is and none of my teeth are loose.

I attribute 100% of this tremendous turnaround in the health of my gums to Dr. Gewant. Over this 20+ year period, I??ve had two major gum surgeries; the 2nd about 10 years after the 1st. In addition, I??ve had two implants. In all instances, neither during the actual surgery nor the days following the surgery did I feel any pain at all; either from the surgery itself or the novocain injections. (The novocaine injections were administered very humanely with initial pain-free small, quick injections to deaden the local area followed a little while later with the larger, longer pain-free injections.)

I??ve had the two implants for a number of years and have no complaints whatsoever. The implants feel like they are so embedded in the bone that nothing short of something hydraulic would be strong enough to pull them out. Separate and apart from Dr. Gewant??s obvious surgical skills, I attribute the success of my implants to Dr. Gewant using high quality materials and his insistence that many months pass until the installation of a permanent prosthetic tooth in order to allow the implant sufficient time to adhere to the bone. In addition, Dr. Gewant and my prosthodontist (who he referred me to) consult with each other when appropriate to ensure maximum coordination between the two.

There is no question in my mind that Dr. Gewant is, and has always been, 100% committed to treating, and maintaining, my gums as though I were a member of his family. To that end, he has not put me through any unnecessary surgeries, he has always taken the time to patiently explain everything to me including being responsive to any (and all) of my numerous questions and he has always stressed the importance of my diligent home maintenance.

This review would not be complete without my mention of Denise, his long-time dental hygienist, who has been doing my quarterly cleanings for 20+ years. Denise is a lovely young lady who does a difficult job as painlessly and humanely as possible. If my gums could, I??m sure they would give Denise a big hug and say thanks for the last 20+ years.

In terms of the office itself, I imagine it must have happened at least once in 20+ years, however, I don??t recall a single instance of ever being kept waiting for my scheduled appointment once arriving at the office. Further, whenever, I need a renewal prescription (periostat, fluoride gel, etc.), I simply phone the office and the renewal prescription is issued that same day.

I am a tax attorney. As such, I know from personal experience that no matter how hard a professional tries to run a quality, ethical and honest practice, unfortunately, it is absolutely impossible to have a perfect experience with 100% of one??s clients over one??s entire professional career. The bottom line is that while a professional may be held in the highest regard by 99.9% of his/her clients, there is always going to be that .1% where, for one reason or another, things just didn??t work out despite the best efforts of the professional. Knowing Dr. Gewant as I do, I am sure that he is a periodontist who is held in the highest regard by 99.9% of his patients.

In summary, I feel very fortunate and secure being a patient of Dr. Gewant and would wholeheartedly recommend that anybody looking for a periodontist in Dr. Gewant??s geographic area arrange a consultation with him.

i have been a patient of dr gewant for over 10 yrs. and although goingto the periodontist is not a pleasent experience he and his staff make it very bearable. He has helped me on a moment's notice when I have had a toothache. His staff is extremely accomadating as well. They also have always followed up with me when I have had a procedure which is very uncommon these days. He is very through and professional as is his staff in particular my hygenist Denise. The receptionist is also a loveley and caring individual. Prior to going to Dr. Gewant I dreaded going to the periodontist I always left in PAIN. Upon leaving a visit with Dr. Gewant I am relatively pain free. I highly advise anyone in need of a Great Periodontist to contact his office they will not be disappointed. He knows his teeth and gums.

Dr. Gewant was extremely professional , exceptionally knowledgable regarding periodontal and implant surgery. The office staff called after each procedure inquiring about my after care. Dr. Gewant took as much time as I required for my post op care and answered all my questions with great patience. The office manager handled all of my insurance papers with ease and efficiency. I will be visiting his office for regular periodontal cleanings and checkups and look forward to these visits with ease.

First class staff, Dr, Gewant explained every detail of the procedure and the surgery and post op. procedures. I was very satified with every aspect of the experience and it took the fear out of the process. Have been back for routine treatments...wish I started with him sooner!

I was referred to Dr. Gewant for periodontal treatment, by my dentist. The staff were very friendly and courteous. As for Dr. Gewant he was absolutely fantastic. He explained to me what needed to be done and was very thorough. While I was there I was interested in having dental implants. Again, he explained the procedure in great detail. I had no problems in scheduling an appointment. On the days of my appointment there was never a wait, I was seen right away. Dr. Gewant uses a topical before the injection that numbs the area, that you feel no pain. It's amazing!!!! I am done with my periodontal work, and my gums look great. As for the implants, I had three implants, I have had no problems, they were a success!!! I would highly recommend Dr.Gewant to anyone who is interested in a pain-free periodontal treatment and dental implants. Thank you Dr.Gewant and your lovely staff.

I was referred to Dr. Gewant last year for a periodontal evaluation. My dentist told me I had gum disease. I was greeted by a wonderful staff and I felt very comfortable in the office immediately. I then met Dr. Gewant. He was very friendly and kind. He answered all my various questions and was very gentle during his examination of my gums. He explained the procedure I needed in great detail. I was able to schedule my surgical appointment easily. On the date of the surgery I was nervous, but once again the staff and Dr. Gewant made me feel very comfortable. I was very afraid of the novocaine injection. I didn't feel a thing! It was wonderful! Dr. Gewant uses a topical treatment that really numbs the area before he injects the novocaine. It's great! As for the actual surgery, I was nervous again, but I didn't feel a thing and Dr. Gewant and his surgical assistant were very kind and patient with me. The results of the treatment were excellent and now I continue to go to his office for periodontal cleanings with his wonderful hygienist. I would highly recommend Dr. Gewant to anyone in need of periodontal treatment.
