Dont walk....run away from this orthodontist's office!!
I took my child to be evaluated for orthodontic treatment and it was a frustrating and costly experience.
Even though we arrived about 20 minutes early for our appointment (to complete paperwork) we still waited over an hour to be seen. (45 minutes after our scheduled appt)
During our hour long wait, we sat in his waiting room and were entertained by his extremely unprofessional staff gossip without regard to subject matter as I sat with my child.
I brought my child's dental records and latest comprehensive
x-rays in addition to all my insurance information, current insurance card and the appropriate phone number.
When making the appointment I was assured my insurance would cover the evaluation appointment Unfortunately that was not the case due to the duplication of x-rays.
It only got worse from there.
As we were ushered to the doctor's examination room, we were told that my son needed an additional set of x-rays prior to the evaluation As I reminded the staff member that I brough the x-rays with me she assured me that the (week old) x-rays were not sufficient for the doctor's use. I asked if my insurance would cover the newly requested x-rays.......at this point we were sent back to the waiting room for about 25 more minutes of listening to the office chit chat as our insurance was verified.
I was told we were "all set" by Dr. Plunk's insurance expert and we continued with the x-rays. When the doctor completed his evaluation process he discussed his findings with us. He was quick and concise. He explained we would need to return in 12 months for another evaluation. He did not elaborate.
As we were leaving the office, I was presented with a bill for the x-rays taken by Dr. Plunk's staff. I was confused at best as I had been told by Dr. Plunk's insurance expert that the x-rays were covered by my insurance
I was told the x-rays were covered but I was responsible for filing the paper work myself. When I asked to speak to someone else, the office manager explained to me that the staff member had incorrectly processed our file as "uninsured" and was not able to correct her error and therefor could not process our claim. She suggested that I contact my insurance company and request the paperwork/forms needed.
The staff was neither helpful or apologetic for the situation they created.
I paid my bill and went home to contact my insurance company. As you can probably expect.....the x-rays were not covered because they were an exact duplicate of the x-rays I had furnished them upon my arrival.
I contacted Dr. Plunk's office to discuss the situation and was told that the office requires their own x-rays and cannot base professional decisions using x-rays taken by another professional.
My insurance only covers one set of x-rays per 12 month period unless necessary for medical reasons.
So, I learned a vauable lesson about trusting "professionals", paid out of pocket for duplicate x-rays, and learned a lot inappropriate gossip about many people.
Quite a day! I only wasted about 2 hours of my life!!!!
I recommend Dr. Plunk to all the moms in my neighborhood! He is fun, compasionate, and his office staff is exceptional. My son is 5 and a half, and asks often when he will be going back to Dr. Plunk. He's had cavities filled and extra floride treatments, and every experience has been fantastic.
Dr. Plunk's been taking care of Dallas children's mouths for more than 25 years, and is so loved by every kid and mom! Start your toddler with great dental health early, then stay with Dr. Plunk all the way through college for both dental and orthodontia care.
PROS: Loving, experienced professional.
CONS:
Dr. Plunk was recommended to me by a co-worker after I had a not-so-great experience with another dentist on my child's very first visit to the dentist. After taking my child to Dr. Plunk, the difference in dental visits was like night & day! My child has been going to Dr. Plunk for about 8 years and we love him! He's awesome, has years of experience and he's very good with kids (and moms)! I highly recommend him.
Pros: Dr. Plunk & his staff
Dr. Plunk is AMAZING! First of all, his office is a haven for my children. His whole staff caters to the needs of my kids and my kids love going to see him! The actual dental room, where Dr. Plunk and his staff work their magic, is a creative, vibrant room with up-to-date equipment and entertainment for the children. If Dr. Plunk worked on adults, I'd choose him to be my dentist. He is just a thoughtful, kind, and sincerely caring dentist that I would recommend to any concerned parent.
Pros: Dr. Plunk, staff, office appearance
Cons: none
