I work for a medical office and we send people there all the time. They always seem anybody, even if they don't have insurance. It sounds like her son was over 18, so if she wasn't there, isn't he supposed to tell the doctor whether he wants something done or not.
As a single mom with minimal ins, I did the reseach to pay in full at time of visit for my son, which I did. The Dr. then did two procedures that were not authorized by me, nor my ins, to the amount of $374!! When I tried to get someone to listen to me, all I was offered was a $5/ month payment plan!! I don't want to be angry for 75 months!! I will never reccommend this facility, as this is the second time this happened! GRRRRR
