I saw Dr. Kornafel at the start of my fertility search since she was on my insurance panel in-network. My husband and I were appalled at her poor bed-side manner and lack of knowledge. I have a bi-cornuate uterus, and though she didn't know much about it, she seemed very alarmed and proceeded to tell us that we should never try to get pregnant because of it. She even went so far as to say getting off birth control would be unethical of us! Dr. Kornafel did not give any helpful advise or suggestions. She did contact me a couple of weeks later and said she consulted with a colleague who thought it might not be that big of an issue! This experience scarred us and when we finally decided to see another doctor, we couldn't believe how different his caring manner and prognosis was. With his help, we easily got pregnant with twins and I carried them almost full term with no problems! I am now due to have my 3rd child (conceived naturally) at full term. Don't waste your time, $, or emotional energy seeing Dr. Kornafel!

My husband and I truly appreciate Dr. Kornafel. With each visit, we are greeted by her very helpful office staff. They are pleasant, professional and polite. Dr. Kornafel has taken her time discussing our treatment options. She provides her opinion in a very professional manner. Even in those times when the news is not as positive as we would have hoped, Dr. Kornafel takes her time to explain the process. I would recommed her services to my friends and family. My very close friend also speaks very highly of her experience with Dr. Kornafel and her staff.

Wow - what a disappointment. Met with Dr. Kornafel recently and felt more like an opportunity for her to make money on tests than a patient. She's really rude and was very dismissive of my questions and concerns.

Upon another recommendation, I tried another doctor who was excellent; I will be going to him for a follow up appointment. Do your research and find someone other than Dr. Kornafel.

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Kornafel earlier this year; I strongly advise anyone who is struggling with infertility issues to avoid her services.

As others have mentioned, Kornafel's bedside manner leaves much to be desired. Five minutes into my first appointment, I knew she was not the doctor for me: rude, did not answer my questions, brushed off my concerns about another medical condition. She even spent five minutes on the phone during our already-short session. I did not schedule any follow up.

Kornafel's billing practices are also unacceptable. I understand that infertility is often not covered by insurance programs, and what she charges is offensive. When I called to dispute the exorbitant charge incurred for 10 minutes of service, I was told by a staff member that the "doctor needs to make a living". Yes, we all do, Dr. Kornafel, but common decency tends to prevail in the minds of most, and attempting to overcharge patients is not the way to ??make a living?.

I can understand how polarizing an infertility doctor can be; many of us are hearing news we don??t want to hear, and the doctor might bear the brunt of those feelings. But there are plenty of other infertility doctors out there who can tell it like it is without adding to an already miserable situation. Save yourself the agony with Dr. Kornafel and find one of those doctors.

I had my annual done and she decided to do an ultra sound instead of just checking for irregularities normally. I get my bill months later and the ultrasound is $375. The annual is only $140! If I had known I would have refused. I can see how she makes her money. She didn't even ask me if I wanted it or mentioned that it cost more than twice the amount of the annual.

Back in 2008, my wife was referred to Dr. Kornafel for infertility issues. I understand it does not work this way for some (or most, not sure) people who see Dr. Kornafel, let alone any infertility doctor. An old friend of mine spent years trying to have a child, traveling to different countries and trying different things. But, in our case, Dr. Kornafel was able to micromanage my wife's hormone levels and now we have a beautiful baby girl. In all honesty, Dr. Kornafel was pretty much out of the picture by the time my wife was 10 weeks' pregnant, but at that point, you don't need to see an infertility doctor, right?

Incidentally, my wife notes that Dr. Kornafel was very personal with her, talking about her kid and getting to know us. So, at least in our case, she was very caring and did her best. And we are grateful to her for that.

I went to her for fertility reasons. At first I was very happy will everything but when my insemination didnt work I was given a $200 ultrasound without the cost or the necessatiy having been explained to me.Then after being prescribed fertilty drugs and scheduleing my next insemination was denied treatment the day of my insemination because the staff had failed to follow up with me that I needed my husband to get a blood test (Which was not needed the day of my first insemination) even though I had called or been in the office several times that week. When I became upset the Dr. asked why I was upset as I had only been trying to get pregnant for 10 months and suggested I get help for my emotional problems (I find it hard to beleive other women with fertilty problems have not become upset in her presence)She also mentioned how she makes her money on these inseminations and could lose her license if she did the procedure without the blood test (even though she had already done one)Bad Dr., Rude incompetant staff

I have been a patient of Dr. Kornafel's for about 7 years through a referral from a good friend. I started seeing her before I was married or thinking about getting pregnant, because I knew I'd need to see a specialist when the time came. I had a preexisting condition that suggested that. My case was extremely difficult as my FSH numbers were very high for my age and the chance of me getting pregnant as she told me the first time my husband and I visited were extremely slim (although I was 35 at the time). Regardless of the numbers we went through the process and I am glad to say I have a beautiful boy. I am also glad to say that I am still her patient even though I do not plan on having another baby, simply because of her bedside manners!!!!! I have yet to find an office where the staff is as friendly and attentive. I'm really surprised at some of the comments I read here... Frankly, if she was after the money she would have opened up a laser treatment center or something in her office (like most surgeons and OBGYNs)!
Simply put I adore Dr. Kornafel... I will always be grateful to her for my boy. She is professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable in what she does. I have recommended her many times in the past and recommend her still.

I have been Dr. Kornafel's patient for approximately 6 years. I am well aware I am a high maintenance patient and given my history of miscarriages....it's understandable. Dr. Kornafel...well...she saved me. She is by far one of the best doctors I have ever met. She is professional, caring and very thorough. I never waited more that 15 - 20 minutes to see her. Her and her staff were very knowlegable and amazingly caring and patient. She was and to this day is always there for me. BECAUSE OF HER, I have tiwn boys now. She still calls me just to ask how my boys are doing. She is the best!!!! I couldn't be happier with any other doctor.

I've been misdiagnosed like other patients here... I'm seeing a pattern of misdiagnosis. I'm starting to wonder if she does this on purpose to get money or just really incompetent. On top of that, she and her staff are extremely unprofessional. I just can't believe a few of the raving reviews are real.

After visiting many doctors and offices, I found Dr. Kornafel and I am very thankful. She is a rare person that combines dedication, caring, intelligence, experience and honesty. I truly felt her sacrifice and commitment to fulfill my needs and expectations. She is extremely knowledgeable and gives you the secure feeling that you have an expert on your side. My dream came true!

She has the worst bedside manner and makes you take unnecessary tests to charge you. You have to wait more than an hour at least for visit, and once, after waiting for two hours, they said they'll reschedule. She bills you multiple times, and the billing person, Rosemary yells at you for the longest time for asking a question. While I was getting an annual checkup, I asked her whether she liked being a doctor (I was thinking of applying for Med School), and she said she wouldn't be a doctor if she could do it all over again, because doctors don't make any money. Basically she became a doctor for the money. Truly a doctor that cares (about money, not you).

Dr. Kornafel obviously has the intelligence and experience to be a good clinician. Our experience is that she is a little lacking on bedside manner which can go a long way in making a patient feel comfortable.

However once she relaxes and opens, up Dr. Kornafel is quite nice and very empathetic to her patients.

If she does not warm to you give her another chance. She does eventually come around.

I think Kathleen is an awesome doctor! Kind and sweet and caring and takes extra time for her patients. Shame on the two people John and Ani for writing bad comments on her! If your over the age to have kids and you tried, don't blame her, blame YOURSELF! YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN HAVING KIDS YOUNGER!
Go adopt! God bless you, and I hope your true Americans, not ones that FRAUD OUR COUNTRY! :)

Okay, I can put my experience of secondary unexplained infertility into perspective a little bit more now that some time has gone by.

There are no guarantees that fertility treatments will be successful. Older patients (as I was - at the time 40) don't have much in the way of guarantees that their bodies will cooperate with all the manipulation that goes on with our reproductive systems. It is a malady I would not wish on my worst enemy. Heartbreaking.

That having been said, I am not real thrilled with Dr. Kornafel myself. I was lucky enough to conceive my daughter Mia with relative ease at the age of 38, and delivered her in November of 2003. I nursed Mia until right after I turned 40, and then went about waiting for my menstrual cycle to regulate. Once it did, I was proactive and went to see Dr. Kornafel before the "six months of trying" had elapsed, thinking that my age would be problematic. Dr. Kornafel put me on 50 mgs of Clomid, five times over, where I kicked out a minimum of two follicles each time. And in each of the five IUIs, my husband provided his contribution, and I went into her office with my trusty plastic bottle full of sperm. And each cycle was a bust. Somewhere around the fifth cycle, Dr. Kornafel ordered my 3-day bloodwork, which indicated an elevated FSH level of 14.59. We went through with my 1st IVF cycle in November of 2005, were I produced eleven follicles, yielding nine eggs. Out of those nine eggs, one fertilized, resulting in a poor-quality embryo which, as you can probably guess, did not result in a pregnancy. No ICSI or AH or other manipulation was done to help facilitate a better outcome. I fact, when I saw the physician's orders from the embryologist, it said that Dr. Kornafel asked that no ICSI be performed. Did that have an impact on the cycle? My thinking is that not enough was done by Dr. Kornafel, both with performing my 3-day bloodwork well into treatment with her, as well as not having ICSI done. ICSI, intracytoclasmic sperm injection, helps directly facilitate the sperm's direct contact with the egg, hopefully thereby encouraging fertilization. With it, a woman's chances for a successful pregnancy are increased. Without it? Not so much.

In retrospect, my issues with Dr. Kornafel don't have as much to do with the lack of ICSI or having untimely 3-day bloodwork done. My issue with Dr. Kornafel have to do with an almost pathological flippancy the woman has with women struggling to conceive. I don't know whether this is just a defense mechanism on her part, given how emotional the whole process can be, or whether the woman is truly a flaming "B", but I was extremely dissatisfied with how I was treated by her and frankly, by her office staff. On the day after my retrieval, when I was supposed to be contacted by her office to say what kinds of fertilization may or may not have been happening, nobody called me. When I would tried contacting the Surgery Center myself, I was already feeling heartbroken at what I was afraid was a poor outcome to my cycle. I asked for a little bit of, I don't know, maybe a little hope, from the Surgery Center nurse, and was told by her to effectively not asked her for what there was none of. Finally, when Dr. Kornafel called, after having to leave messages for her to do so, she was curt, concise and almost military in her lack of compassion. I was told, two weeks later, to have blood work done and that I would be notified at the end of the day what the result was. Nobody called. Nobody called the next day either. I finally got in touch with her office 48 hours later. I was told my pregnancy test was negative. Period.

Now I am not a doctor. I was just one of many women who suffered through infertility. My story was not unique. But when a physician is dealing with such a sensitive issue, where such hope rests on each moment, that physician better be equipped with both expertise as well as compassion. Unfortunately, I felt that Dr. Kornafel is just simply one of a long line of doctors with all the "book smarts" in the world, but with a bedside manner devoid of much humanity or kindness.

This having been said, I can tell you that on my 3rd and last attempt at IVF, at the age of 42, via Emory Reproductive Center in Atlanta, GA, where we relocated to in April of 2006, I delivered my second child, a daughter we named Corinne. Corinne is 13 months of age now and enabled us to complete our family. I give all credit to Dr. Donna Sessions for the blessing of Corinne's birth.

I wish every family having to go through infertility all the luck and prayer in the world.

Last year my husband and I were refered to Dr. Kornafel by my OB-GYN, who has never seen me for more than 5 minutes per visit.
When we went for the first time and while we waited for 15 minutes, I had many negative preconceptions and fears. I was happily surprised with her dedication and professionalism in that appointment. As it has been said by someone else, we met at her office and had a nice conversation for 45 minutes. We went through my IF history and she designed a plan for us. I left feeling that we were in good hands.

This year we went back and had two procedures done in her office. Dr. Kornafel and her staff treated us in a superb way. They were gentle, helpful and cooperative thru the entire process. She has demonstrated to us her ethics, mastering of infertility treatments; but what is more important, that she really cares for us.

She has demonstrated to us her ethics, mastering of infertility treatments; but what is more important, that she really cares for us.

...you want to be misdiagnosed, pay through your nose for procedures you don't need due to her shoddy treatment and generally want to be treated like your money is more important than you are.

If you are looking for these things, she's your girl.

I'm quite shocked at some of the negative reviews for Dr. Kornafel. She's been one of the best doctors I have had...EVER. I was extremely impressed with my very first visit with her that she sat me in her OFFICE to discuss my past/present issues & overall wellbeing. I've never had a doctor do that. I was floored! I also appreciate the fact that she takes an ultrsound of your ovaries. This is included in the normal checkup charge and is just an extra step of precaution. I've never had a doctor actually be pro-active in the catching/preventing of problems. As far as people having to wait, it has happened, usually no longer than 30minutes, but I chalk that up to her actually taking the time to talk to the patient she currently has in the room! She doesn't just say "times up" and kicks you out so that she can see the next patient. Regardless of other peoples issues with her, I highly recommend her! If you want bad doctor, see Kim Reyes, now she's AWFUL!

The first time I went to see Dr. Kornafel she spent over an hour getting to know me and our case. I couldn't believe it. No doctor had ever done that for me before. She impressed me as being incredibly intelligent, dedicated and truly an expert in her field. We have had nothing but positive things to say about her, Jennifer and the whole staff. They have been wonderful I'm happy to say that we have a beautiful little baby due to her help. I highly recommend her and am eternally grateful!

Dr. Kornafel was very helpful with all my questions - she even stayed a little late to fit me in on such short notice. I might actually have found a doctor I want to continue going to.

I visited Dr. Kornafel in May for a regular gynecological exam. To make a long story short, Dr. Kornafel did not return any of my post-visit phone calls, prescribed medication by having her lab tech (who didn't know anything about the medication or my condition) call me to tell me to have my pharmacy contact them, and ordered a non-standard and very expensive genetic test without my knowledge or consent. If you are in search of a gynecologist, LOOK ELSEWHERE!

PROS: None
CONS: rude office staff, unprofessional doctor

My wife was a patient of Dr Kornafel for about a year. Since we used her for fertility issues, I had to be deeply involved in the process. One of the biggest gripes I have about doctors is they don't respect your time. Dr Kornafel is no exception. I don't think there was ever an appointment where I didn't wait at least an hour to see her. It's especially bothersome when it's your money that is being spent (insurance typically doesn't pick up her services). I could live with the waiting if the rest of the experience was pleasant. Unfortunately, her sensitivity is about a 2 on a 1-10 scale and her knowledge (compared to other doctors we've seen) is about a 4. Without getting into specifics, we ended up spending about $20k with no results. I understand this is can always happen but, at our last visit, she told us there was little hope and our only option was a $50k procedure that had little hope of working. Six months later, at the urging of a nurse friend of mine, we saw a different doctor. Turns out, Dr Kornafel was wrong on both counts. The procedure is relatively inexpensive and had a 70% success rate (in our case). There are many other doctors and clinics out there that are much better.

PROS: Easy parking (it's all I can think of!)
CONS: lack of professionalism & faulty information,
