Seven years ago, on the afternoon of 17th of March, 2003, I fell victim to a 2 x 2 cm. undiagnosed, clinically non-specific, (benign), adenoma of the anterior pituitary lobe. It had prolapsed and the resultant aneurysm caused me to rapidly lose an estimated 90% of my vision.

By the time we reached the ER of Scripp's Encinitas, I was for all matters blind.

As my late Mother was a life member of American Society of Clinical Pathologists, I fully understood the vagaries I was faced with. Additionally, a that time, I was a television documentary producer, board member of media arts organizations, former TV news cameraman, and member of the International Cinematographer??s Guild; my vision is fully my life.

When it was conveyed to Dr. Alexander J. Kim, by admitting room personnel that I was a cinematographer, he rose to the occasion to save my vision, in the finest manner of the Greek physician Hippocrates. Dr. Kim's rapid response to prescribe massive doses of steroids to reduce the inflammation in the optic junction, was a major factor in the results that followed.

Upon arrival at Scripps La Jolla, DrHertzel Soumekh, Neurosurgeon, took the lead. Dr Soumekh quickly interviewed me, skillfully analyzed my situation, and then called upon his esteemed colleague Dr. Keith Wahl, Ortholaryngologist.

After plotting their complex strategy, DrHertzel Soumekh, with assistance from Drs Kim and Wahl, brilliantly operated for 8 hours on the 19th of March, 2003. In ending my blindness, they miraculously saved not only 100% of my vision, but also, 100% of my life.

Dr. Kim is among the best in his field.
