I have been a patient of Dr.Cheng's since approx 1991-92. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and he gets down to business without a lot of chit-chat. Don't get me wrong -- he's a very personable guy, but I'm there to receive treatment and I respect the fact that he needs to attend to his other patients so I don't overstay my welcome. I am extremely surprised by the other reviews. Sounds to me like they don't take care of their teeth on a regular basis and when they're in need, they expect a miracle to be worked!! I go every 6 months for a cleaning and have NEVER had an issue with my treatment. If something wasn't right with a crown that Dr.Cheng put in, then he fixed it. He referred me to a periodontist when I needed a root canal (although he could have done it himself, he said he prefers to let the professional handle it). His staff is wonderful and I've never encountered a crazy busy atmosphere where he was racing in/out of the rooms giving minimal attention. I think being his patient for over 20 yrs makes me a very credible reviewer and I hope you will consider Dr. Cheng for your dental needs. PS _ I was NOT paid to say any of this!!

This guy is horrible. He put in two crowns. One was done so poorly that my jaw was injured since the crown was too high. I went back to him and he actually removed the porcelin on the top of the crown down to the stainless steel base (this was ten years ago before ceramic crowns). He then said "no problem". The high crown caused jaw problems so much I went to a jaw specialist. He saw the problem immediately and told me to go back to the dentist. By this time the root had died and I went to another dentist. I had a massive infection due to the dead root. It cost me thousands to fix and massive pain. When I went back to the dentist after the jaw specialist he told me that he did everything he could. I should have sued him.
Also, he rushes around between operatories spending as little time as he can with you. Avoid him like the plague.

He did scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) two times and I have never recovered. My teeth still hurts two years later. I had no problems before I went to him.

This dentist gave me the most painful cleaning I've ever had in my entire life. He scraped my teeth so hard and ever since then I've had vertical scratch lines on my teeth that look obviously unnatural and scraped.. and they are starting to take on stains. He was so harsh with cleaning near my gum line that when I spit at the end, chunks of red bloody tissue came out and for DAYS my teeth and mouth were in pain. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. He also claimed that I do not have TMJ, which I've clearly been told I do by an oral surgeon.

Dentists' offices are scary in the first place, but most dentists do everything they can to alleviate your pain. This dentist, however, doesn't. Although his normal hygenic cleaning is pretty average, his deep-cleaning oral techniques need work: the entire enamel of the tooth is scraped off to the point of immense pain when eating cold foods and tooth sensitivity. The dentist tries to make the patient feel comfortable throughout the excruciating experience, but it doesn't work very well. Rates are decent, but this is definitely not the best dentist out there. It is better to pay more and not be in drill-induced pain.
