Dr Sawires is actually my wife's doctor, but since I typically accompany her when she visits the doctor, I feel I have a good point of view for reviewing her.

Dr Sawires strikes me as a very caring and intelligent doctor. She seems to be very up-to-date on current practices, procedures, and treatments, and she is well-connected with other doctors and care providers.

On the downside, we often wait for over an hour to go see her (sometimes our fault, as we arrive like 5-10 minutes late). Furthermore she seems a bit rushed sometimes and difficult to reach when you're not right in front of her.

All in all I'm happy with her as my wife's doctor and I would certainly recommend her overall. I'll gladly take a bit of waiting for an excellent doctor.

I would really love to be able to recommend Dr. Sawires as my first visit with her was great. Like the first reviewer mentioned, she was very caring and professional and took all the time needed for our first appointment. She even gave me her email address and phone number and let me know I could contact her at any time. Unfortunately, that's where the problem came in. When pain from an old hip injury made it difficult for me to even walk (let alone carry my 1-year-old) I tried to reach her for help. Despite a half dozen calls to her and an email in the last three weeks, I still have not heard from her or even been given another option for remedying my very painful situation. (Would it be so hard to call in a prescription for pain medication or refer me to someone who could actually see me/help me? Apparently the answer is yes.) When I called her office to see why I haven't heard from her, I was told she was having "family issues" and that my message would be passed on to her (again!). Still nothing. Unfortunately, now I either have to wait weeks to get into a new doctor or go to the ER. Ridiculous!

I totally agree with the comments from the last reviewer. I visited Dr. Sawires a few month ago when my regular doctor was out of town, she saw me at her lunch time, took time to discuss my medical condition. I had recommended her to my friends since my visit.

I started seeing Dr. Sawires when I moved to Berkeley last year and she is fabulous. She is incredibly caring and professional, and goes out of her way to make herself available by phone, e-mail or fax. She has a background in clinical research and is very knowledgeable about issues related to aging and menopause. The follow-through of some of the support staff leaves something to be desired, and Dr. Sawires often runs behind, so bring a book. Once she arrives, though, you get her undivided attention.
