Technician hit on my wife while giving her an eye exam. The harassing continued throughout the exam even after he was told she was married. the comments continued to the point she was so uncomfortable that she began to perspire. IF management reads this, this is not the last action I will be taking

I brought my 13 year old daughter to get her glasses at America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses. I went because of the ad on T.V. about ""two pairs of glasses for only 69 $!"".
We had her eyes checked... oh they were definitely way worse than before...okay. So we picked out two pair that were labeled two for 69.00. We FINALLY were helped. It wasn't QUICK at all. Then it ended up being WAY more, 141.00 actually. They said it would take about ten days. And that they would call me. On day 12, they didn't call, so I called and asked if they were in. Oh yes, they were in. Well, why wasn't I called?
So, back in the store, we waited and waited. Then after calling my daughters name, they HANDED us the glasses, basically. Uh, we had to wait for that? I should have went to Binyon's. Also they didn't accept my insurance so I had to go through the reimbursement process. So I wouldn't go there if I were somebody looking to buy glasses.

28 Dec. 2010: original appt and glasses order
8 Jan. 2011: wrong Rx--left lens wrong in both frames
29 Jan 2011: wrong Rx-distance and computer lenses in opposite frames
12 Feb.2011: wrong Rx--distance lenses for both frames rather than one for distance and one for computer
1 Mar. 2011: wrong Rx--computer lenses made for driving frames, again
18 Mar. 2011 Finally they got it right and I left with my two pair.
Really, this is beyond belief. Add to it that each time I went to ""pick up"" my glasses, I had to travel 80 miles there and back from The Dalles. The gas expense was as much as the glasses. How could they have so much trouble with one order?

I've used these folks twice, once about 3 years ago, and once recently.

I chose this provider for the same reason most do - it's cheap.

The office is a little tired and shabby, and the fixtures are cheap, as befits a lowest bidder type of establishment.

The doc was an odd woman. Very provocatively dressed, a bit brusque, and very direct.

I had initially wanted contacts, and she advised that I'm on the edge of requiring bifocals, and that contacts would be a poor choice.

When it came time to pick out frames, *I* picked frames from the clearly priced inventory that kicked the price up $50 for two pair.

I paid attention to the stickers on the frames that indicated which ones required premium lenses, and didn't select those.

No extra charge to make one pair sunglasses.

So, I received a contact/eyeglass exam, two pairs of name brand frames, and lens with tinting on one, for $160.

I was offered a couple of upsells, but a polite "no thanks" was sufficient to avoid them.

I feel I received good value, and I'm more than willing to put up with an office that feels like a discount shoe store in order to save about 50% over more plushly appointed offices.

Oh, and I can see well.

I've never wrote a review on a place, nor do I really ever read reviews, for the reason that the morons leaving bad reviews are usually bent out of shape bitter jerks who have nothing better to do with their time than complain about how they may have to wait five minutes because there were other people who were serviced before them or an establish ment may have been busy, and it blows their mind that they are not the only people to set foot on the earth.
I only started reading reviews since people would leave terrible ones about the small sushi place I work at in north Portland. Sorry things took a little longer, but when you have only one waiter and one chef and one person in the back filling orders for fifty people, it may take more than two minutes.
With that said..... Sorry this is going on, but I'm pissed. This place I have always had outstanding service, a promt helpful staff, wicked friendly, the doctor very helpful and also really friendly. Really easy to set up appointments and to top the whole damn thing off. Cheap as hell!
So for all the goons who always have something to complain about, go cram it up your rear!

Refusal to provide prescriptions as required by the law. Employees routinely make promises and don't keep them. Bait and switch advertising - you can expect to pay several times the advertised price. Poor Service. Costco is much cheaper, better quality and they keep their promises.

If anyone has a choice they should avoid Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses at all costs.

I feel like this is the worst eye clinc I've ever been to. It's jam-packed with sick people, grotesquely fat patients with festering sores on their faces, kids getting spanked hard, and spouses fighting hatefully. Even the staff were coughing. It was totally gross.

Beyond the gross environment, none of the staff seemed to care about any of the patients. I observed numerous awful interactions between staff and other patients during my long waits. I suppose they shouldn't be blamed for this, since the patients as a lot looked like gross, wife-beating, dumb hicks. If you are not are not a doofus, you will feel uncomfortably out of place.

All this chaos and shocking behavior made me feel like I needed a new doctor, so I made an appointment at another clinic before I even left the exam room.

Horrible! The Doc. acted as if i was such inconvience & referred me to another place cause she was too lazy to do my exam. Then when I called to get some information it took them forever to call me back then the place I was referred to ended having to call to get the info! Staff acts as if they don't want to be there. I don't care that the prices are cheap, I want to feel that people can handle my care.

It wasn't difficult to make an appointment online, however when I got there the person at the reception desk acted like she was doing me a favor by talking to me. The technician I saw first was nice and helpful, as was the optician. \r
The problems started when I went to pick up the glasses I ordered. First - the message telling me was so garbled I had to call back the number my phone trapped to even find out who had called me. The First time I went to pick up my glasses, the place was closed unexpectedly due to an illness. The whole office was ill? I went back the next day and waited at least 30 minutes before somebody was finally available to get my glasses for me. The glasses were the wrong prescription and the wrong frames. Which I politely pointed out. The woman ARGUED with me, insisting that they were my glasses, even if I couldn't see through them. She was very rude very loud. Luckily another woman came to my rescue and actually looked at the order. She was quick to point out that the order was very different than the glasses. She put in a re-order and told me she would put a rush on it so the glasses would be back within a week. \r
After 10 working days, I called since I had not gotten a call. They were ready, but I was given no reason for getting no call. I went to pick up the glasses, and again had to wait a long time. This time the store was almost empty, but I had to sit and listen to one employee discussing his remodel project on the phone, and have another employee turn her back on me instead of asking if I needed help or even saying that somebody would be with me soon. When a technician finally arrived, she was grumpy, unsmiling, and had an obvious chip on her shoulder - She immediately said ""is there a problem here?"" instead of a normal greeting. When I said I hoped the glasses would be right this time - I didn't raise my voice and I did smile - she scowled and said ""is that so?"". I have glasses, but no explanation no apology no customer service.

I go here for annual eye exams because even with my insurance, it's cheaper than going anywhere else. Appointments are easy to make and the doctors are great. You're encouraged--and given a pretty hard sell--to join one of their clubs, which enable you to buy contact lenses cheaper, but I've been able to find contacts online for the same price without the "club discount." I don't like the glasses here but they're often at such a good price that it's impossible to resist. This is really a good place to go if you don't have insurance or to pick up a cheap pair of glasses.
