Is it just me... or does a routine cleaning at the dentist feel more like an exercise in teeth torture rather than oral 'detail' work?

That said, I had a game changing experience yesterday at the office of Dr. Andy Marashi and Irene Reed (Chasen). Following 2 years of laziness, and some intense online research, I finally made myself an appointment for a check up... bracing for a painful experience and some bad news. Not the case!

Cheryll and Jackie are the friendly faces that welcome you to the 17th FL office, with sweeping views of the city. It felt like I'd been a patient there for years, rather than my first time. Rather rushing through my appointment, Mary, my thorough and meticulous hygienist not only showed me how to brush properly with a mirror... (trust me you've never really brushed correctly, until Mary shows you with a hand mirror - she's a character). She then worked away years of build-up and it only hurt a little. Let's be honest, those sonic cleaners with their high pitch squeaks and water are the devil's tool -- however, under Mary's gentle hand, I can say that it was one of the best cleanings I've had. Honestly, my teeth have never been so white after a cleaning in my life. I always thought teeth cleanings were about tidying up places people don't see -- clearly I was mistaken!

Due to the well-earned title of one of the best dentists in Seattle, I was not seen by Dr. Marashi. No worries because Dr. Irene was fabulous! No rush, no guilt, no up sell. Not only did she put me at ease, she took the time to talk me through things including my complicated situation. Dr. Irene even gave me some advice to take back to a friend of mine, who continues to suffer from complications following a botched oral surgery a year ago. Dr. Irene was a serene, professional, and compassionate presence. Even though I was clearly the last patient of the day, it felt like I was Dr. Irene??s first.

Albeit mundane and a total bother, finding a good dentist is like finding good masseur or hair stylist. Once you find one, you keep going back! You want to look forward to that next visit? knowing that when you leave, you've been well taken care of and are all shiny and new.
