This dental office will take your money! This was my 2nd appointment over a 6 month period. When I went the first time, I also took my daughter. Dr. Shahin was very professional and I liked her. My insurance went thru without incident and I was delighted with her care initially.

The second time I went it was just myself. I needed a root canal but was not ready for the procedure. I went mainly for a prescription for antibiotics and pain meds. The visit took less than 10 min. The Dr was pretty rude and did not even check my teeth. Nevertheless, I received my prescriptions but I was charged $75. Now when my daughter and I both went before, I was charged $7.20 co-pay. My insurance covers 80% of the bill. After paying the $75, I made a comment about $75 being awfully expensive for just a prescription. The girl at the front desk started to explain by talking fast and saying all these numbers. I was in so much pain at the time, I couldn't comprehend what she was saying so I just let it be.

Less than 2 weeks later, I received a statement from my insurance company. It stated that her total fee was $36 (not $75!). My insurance company covers 80% which comes to $28.80. I was supposed to pay $7.20. So I called the insurance company. The lady on the phone laughed and said, I need to get my money back from Dr. Shahin.

So I call Dr. Shahin. The girl on the phone starts to go over numbers again so I say, "Do I need to come down? Because it seems to me that you have overcharged me and you are trying to give me and excuse." She responds, "I will give you a refund but let me explain first." So I hang up and run to the office.

When I get there the girl at the desk has pulled out these papers and isexplaining deductibles, etc. As I'm looking at her paperwork, I see my daughters name. So I say, "My daughter was not here last week. Why are you showing me paperwork with my daughters name?" The Dr. claims the insurance company has not paid them yet. I tell them then why would I receive a statement from my insurance company if you have not been paid? The Dr is touching me and calling me her friend. Then she tells my husband that this is not his business! Now I am Black and he is White so many would assume that he is not associated with me. So I tell her, "This is my husband. He is paying for this so of course he is going to be involved in this." So they tell me to sit down as they call the insurance company. The girl at the front desk is whispering into the phone, I can't hear what she is saying but then she says loudly, "Could you please explain to these people that they are wrong?" So she hands me the phone. I tell the lady at the insurance company what has transpired and the lady on the phone says, "Oh well she didn't tell me they charged you double. They were supposed to charge you $7.20. They owe you around $68." I handed the phone to the Dr. There were no apologies. I received my refund and all of my information. And the insurance had indeed paid the Dr for her services.

When I visited the office before all this happened, I noticed the Dr and her front desk girls discussing insurance and billing. This is a bad sign. It appears to me that Dr. Shahin is more concerned about getting paid than taking care of her patients.

Doctor is excellent at making going to the dentist easy. I always dreaded it before her. She's very caring and attentive. All of her work has been excellent. Making appointments is very easy.
