I have been under Dr. Mas' care for several months. He has helped me stay stable with certain medicines. I lost my job and my insurance. I asked for samples to get me through until my new job's insurance kicks in at Feb. 1. I was told that my meds are not available in samples. They were not available as of a month ago. HMMM? When asked for an alternative, I was told about generics and how he would not endorse them. It was a struggle to have him call them in to my pharmacy because I did not have the number handy. He wanted me to call back to the answering service to leave the pharmacy's number. This after having left 4 messages AND sending a personal FAX to Doc Mas. (They do NOT have EMAIL at Bent Tree Phsych) for 2 days just to be told to find another Shrink! Neither he nor his staff have been helpful at all. Email me before you make an appointment.

Pros: Takes Health Insurance

Cons: Dumps you when the bennies run out.

I've been a patient of Dr. Mascarenhas since 2005. He has been a godsend both as an inpatient and an outpatient. Always polite. Very quiet natured, but with a good sense of humor. I have bipolar disorder and he has never given up on finding the best way to treat my rapid cycling. His office staff has always been polite. I've never had to wait very long, and have not had any billing mix-ups. I have recommended him to a close friend who is also very pleased with his professionalism as her doctor. He always returns my phone calls to him.

Pros: great bedside manner; very professional; never gives up

Cons: honestly can't think of any

Dr. Mascarenhas is a very professional, caring psychiatrist with an efficient manner. He monitors your progress with a thorough questionnaire before meeting with him, and an informal conversation. He has a quiet manner, so you do most of the talking, but he is very good about keeping track of your progress with your meds, as well as making sure things are going well in your life. A professional staff and an easily accessible location round out a great psychiatric service. I recommend him to anyone needing his services.

Dr. Mascarenhas has been my psychiatrist for the last year. I have a family history of chronic depression. He was recommended to me by my neurologist as I was in need of a medication change. Unfortunately, I procrastinated & ended up hospitalized after a suicide attempt. I have been on meds for most of the last 30 years, & have been under the care of a psychiatrist from time-to-time. I consider Dr. Mascarenhas to be professional, well-educated, intelligent, & caring. I have recommended him to my sister.

Pros: I've never had to wait long to see him.

Cons: I don't know about bedside manner as he was not on staff where I was hospitalized. Psychiatrists are not known for being overly friendly, "chatty" individuals.

I am a bipoler 1 and became a patient of Dr Mascarenhas in 2000. I was so depressed nothing worked. I am a mixed manic depressive and my symptoms are hard to control at times.
I had ECT and it literally changed my life. I have been totally incontrol and stable for the last 7 yrs. I am honest with him and we have made changes as needed to keep my mood stable. No one knows that I am bipolar except my family and the few people I choose to tell and then they don't believe me because I am a totally functioning individual. I am happier than I have ever been in my life and I thank Dr Mascarenhas and the staff at Richardson Medical center for it.

Pros: Parking is easy, service is good, nice office. Wonderful staff.

Cons: none

I was surprised to read a negative review of Dr. Mascarenhas. I found him on Citysearch and have been very happy with his services. He takes great care of me and is very caring and helpful. I reccomend him, not every doctor is for everyone but I'm getting great care from him.

Update: The medication this doctor gave me, which was 5 different neuroleptics at maximum dosage, gave me a leaky heart valve.

Incompassionate individual posing as compassionate, Erroneous diagnoses, does not go by the book. Practices electroshock "therapy." Unreasonable biased psychological discrimination to get money is his specialty. Very sad.

Dr. Mascarenhas is an extremely intelligent, very professional psychiatrist. I give him five stars, two thumbs up. He is very knowledgeable concerning treatments, he works in conjunction with a local hospital and performs ECT there in addition to his private practice. I am thrilled with his bedside manner....don't know what else to say but highly recommended.
