.

My mother had a very invasive spine surgery last week and the MD (Kravitz) sent her home with Lortab for pain... First of all, she is allergic to that medication and it said so on the bracelet she had on in the hospital, but being the kind person she is, she said she would just take it with benadryl (it causes itching) because the nurses are busy (mom is a nurse) and she didn't want to bother anyone. Second, when I called for her to ask for something stronger that she is NOT allergic to his nurse stated that "lortab is the strongest pain medication that Dr. Kravitz prescibes after any surgey". Lortab IS NOT a super strong pain medication. I had a much less invasive surgery last year by a different MD (thank God) and was sent home with Meperzine (demerol & phenergan). I would absolutly not recommend my worst enemy to go through what my poor mother is going through (unless you LIKE pain). After all was said and done, his nurse said that as soon as my mother brought the reminder of her Lortab to his office (30 minutes away from her home) he would call in Darvocet for her, which is what she had been taking prior to the surgery. I am very upset with this "physician". Maybe he should have someone poke and prod in his back and then see how he feels about giving anything stronger than hydrocodone...

I would like to add a good thing about Dr. Kravitz. He was very nice and professional before, during, and after the actual surgery, very good bedside manner. It just seems as though he was labeling my mother a "pill seeker".

Pros: very nice physician

Cons: no post-op pain control
