From these posts it almost sounds like Dr. Millikan is a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. I got Mr. Hyde. My first trip to Dr. Daniel Millikan was two years ago. He put in a filling that had a sharp edge and left a big gap between my teeth. So I called and they had me come in and the hygienist smoothed the sharp edge. About the gap, she told me the only way to fix was to remove the filling and have the dentist try again. She cautioned me, though, that because of location of the filling there would be a spacer used between that tooth and the one next to it, and the gap may still be as large as it was currently because of the spacer he'd need to use. So I decided to see if I could get used to it, and I gradually got used to flossing every time I ate. Two years went by before I came in again yesterday (hey - life is busy and I just didn't have a chance) and the hygienist did a good job cleaning my teeth. She also asked if I was having any problems and I said, well, that gap is still a problem and sometimes I can't get all the food out and it gets infected. But I'd adjusted to it on the whole. She told me to talk to the dentist, so when he came in, I did. After I told him the gap was still catching food and getting sore some times, he glanced at the chart on the screen and said "well, it couldn't be too bad for you to not bring it up for two years". I told him I HAD brought it up, had come back in, and that the nurse had not been optimistic about it getting the gap any smaller. He reread the chart and said "well, the nurse never would have said that, I could fix this filling just fine. But I'm not a lawyer and it's a matter of who do I believe?" He was getting kind of agitated and angry at this point. He said that to not come in for 2 years is just making the situation worse" and I said there's no change in the gap since the filling was put in, and I didn't see the big deal in not coming in for 2 years. Which got me a lecture on how seeing a dentist is about prevention and it's my responsibility to come in more frequently. I wasn't saying much at this point - he was red in the face and it seemed as though I had really insulted him in some way. So he asked whether I wanted the filling replaced and I quietly said I don't think so, not wanting him to have sharp instruments in his hands anywhere near me. He then said that my concerns about this gap and what I had said were all "hooey" in his opinion, and I needed to find another dentist. He instructed the hygenist to finish up and get me out of the office and that he would not charge me today but he did not want me in his office again. He never told me the results of the xrays the hygienist took (she looked and said she didn't see any cavities) and hovered around the front desk until I was out of the building. It was a weird, almost frightening, experience to have that much anger directed at me with so little reason.

I don't agree with any poor review of Dr. Millikan at all. I have had some truly horrible experiences with dentists, and at 22 I was absolutely petrified to try a new dentist-which is exactly why I chose a place called "Gentle Dentist." From the beginning, Dr. Millikan was understanding, kind and patient with me and my needs, and has even granted me favors because I am a full-time student and have issues paying for some of my procedures. He is a sweet man who cares very much about his patients before himself or his own gains. I've referred my mother to him and I would refer anyone in the Bloomington area to him. He has also done a SPECTACULAR job on my dental work-i had a tooth that may have needed a root canal, but he managed to save it and spare me the additional expense. :)

My experience with Dr. Millikan was horrible. I had two crowns placed by Dr. Millikan. Neither seemed to fit in my mouth properly. I went in twice to have my bite adjusted. I complained about the level of pain I was having and was told to take 4 Alleve. That seemed like a little much to me, so I checked with my doctor who informed me that would be considered an overdose and not to do it. After that, I decided I didn't want to go back to Dr. Millikan. I called their office to see how to get my records sent to a new dentist. I informed them why I was leaving and was advised that I needed to see Dr. Millikan because if the crown was bad it was guaranteed by them and another dentist would charge me to correct it. So, against my better reason, I went back. Dr. Millikan didn't even look at my bite. He took an x-ray and told me that the problem was with the root and not the crown (hence, not covered). I told him that if that's all there was to it, I was done and got up to leave. I had written out all of my concerns to Dr. Millikan in a letter so that I could explain everything that had gone wrong calmly and fully. Dr. Millikan shoved this letter at me as I was leaving. I put it down on the counter and told him I thought he should read it. He laughed and me and informed me it was going straight into the shredder. I just never imagined that a medical professional would treat me so unprofessionally and with so much disdain. I assumed he would be concerned about my issues. I was terribly wrong. I would not EVER recommend Dr. Millikan to anyone.

My experience with This office Was great. I had some fillings done a root canal and 2 crowns . The tooth with the root canal started hurting late Thursday night i was able to reach Dr. Millikan at home . He gave me a prescription to help with the infection and pain . He also made sure that i was seen first thing Monday. Dr. Millikan did the root canal and that evening his staff called to make sure i was feeling better. I couldn't be happier with my experience . I would recommend this office to everyone!

Dr. Millikan has been my dentist for 2 years and honestly I am sooo glad that I found him! He is such an honest and caring dentist. He won't pull any punches, he lets you know what you need and emphasizes that it is in your best interests. I have never been afraid of getting my shots when I have work done, but it still has always hurt. With Dr. Millikan I have never even felt anything but a little pinch, he is incredibly gentle. I ended up having 4 crowns done on my front teeth and I now feel so much better about my smile and myself in general. I have had nothing but compliments and unless I point out that I have had the crowns done people cannot even tell. His staff is a good reflection on him, they care because they know that he cares. I have had no problems with any of the work that I have ever had done at Gentle Dentist, and I have had a lot done!! I highly recommend Dr. Millikan and his office, you won't be disappointed with his services.Cari

I just wanted to thank Dr. Millikan for making my dental visit easy and Pain Free! I also wanted to share my story, in hopes to help others who have a fear of the dentist.
Before I saw Dr. Millikan I knew I needed to have root canals on two of my teeth! I was very nervous because the only thing I??ve heard about root canals were horror stories! I was very frustrated when I came to see Dr. Millikan because I had seen 4 different dentists and I still hadn??t found one I trusted to perform my root canals. But after meeting Dr. Millikan and his helpful and friendly staff I was very impressed! Not only did Dr. Millikan listen but he also took time to explain the procedure in terms that I could easily understand.
Even though I was really nervous when I came back for the root canal appointment Dr. Millikan was very understanding and administered the most gentlest shot ever!!! In the past dentist would jam the needle in my gums and quickly give me the shot; not Dr. Millikan he was very gentle and slowly ejected the anesthetic. It was wonderful there was no Pain.
During the root canal I had NO PAIN! Dr. Millikan and his well educated assistants were very helpful and willing to answer all of my questions. The root canals, that I had been dreading only took a little over an hour and were completely pain free, even after the numbness wore off! I would recommend Dr. Millikan at Bloomington Gentle Dentist to anyone looking for a wonderful dentist!

I came to this dentist after about 2 years of not going to see a dentist. While I was there I was informed that i needed four fillings and a root canal, and they wanted to fix my canines. I asked if they could fill my slightly chipped front tooth by just adding some dentin to it and they said yes.

So I arranged to have everything done in one day, so I wouldn't have to come back besides to get the crown on my tooth. Well less than a week after they did the work, my front tooth chipped worse than it was before, so I came back and they fixed it again. The day I got my crown on my front tooth was chipped again, so they fixed it once again. It chipped a third time, and they told me that this was the last time they were going to fix it, and of course it broke again, but I was understanding, since its hard to fix the front tooth (something I wished I knew before hand) and I just had them smooth out the chip so it would at least blend in easily. In addition, I started complain about my root canal tooth hurting when I put pressure on it with the crown, I was told that this is normal and it will go away eventually.

However this is not why I am giving them a bad review, in fact I understood the front tooth problem. The reason why I am giving a bad review, is because of the the two molars that I had filled. On my very back molar, it has chipped 5 times, they replaced it 4 times, but informed me that they were going to have to do a root canal if they had to replace it again and I was going to be charged. I lost my insurance at this point, since its been a little over a year ago since they did the original filling. Luckly, i was registered with a local free health care clinic, which arranged them to fix my tooth at no charge in Dec. It hasn't fell out yet!

Today, I noticed that my other tooth filling has cracked when I was chewing gum. It won't come out, but it moves up and down when I chew. I doubt that they will fix it since its been a little over a year since they fixed it in the first place, so now I am going to have to try to convince the heath clinic to arrange to fix this tooth also. I am also a little worried about my tooth with the crown on it, because it still hurts every once in a while when I eat some times.

I am writing this, in the hopes that no one else will ever have to experience what I have gone through. When it comes to medical care one would hope that that the patients health and care would be the most important thing to the medical professional if they were truly in the profession for helping people instead of the money they make.
When I first went in to the Gentle Dentist they did x-rays and told me all the work that needed to be done. We started out with a root canal, crown, and a filling. I had that work complete, or so I thought. I next was advised to have a tooth extracted and a bone graft done. While they were extracting my tooth then they said I needed to get the one next to it extracted while they were in they??re doing the other one. So I left the dentist with 2 missing teeth and minimal knowledge of the side effects to having teeth extracted.
Three days after the extraction I was trying to finally eat and while I was having soup the crown they put on 2 weeks previous falls out. So now I have no teeth to really eat on cause one side is missing 2 bottom molars from the extraction and now the crown falls out which is my other side bottom molar. I called, but they were closed so I called the emergency help number to seek help for this situation. Dr. Millikan does not return my call till the next morning (Friday). He tells me to wait the weekend and come in on Monday and they can repair the crown, but not to eat any solid foods till then. At this point I have not eaten in 4 days because of the invasive extraction and now no crown.
Later that afternoon I start having problems and concerns to how the extraction site is healing, so I again call the emergency help number and left Dr. Millikan a message. By that evening we still have not heard back from the dentist, and at this point I have pieces of the membrane coming out of my mouth and bone material from the bone graft coming out. So now I am extremely concerned to what is going on, and at this point I am in excruciating pain. My boyfriend called the emergency help number again and left a message of our concerns and that we need to speak to someone about this ASAP. We did not receive a call till the next morning (Saturday), and I was sick and in pain in bed so I gave the phone to my boyfriend to talk to the dentist. Dr. Millikan tells him that he does not talk to people who are not patients and that our concern is not an emergency so quit calling the emergency line and then hung up the phone on him. I then called Dr. Millikan right back to find out what is going on. He answers the phone, ??I am not going to talk to you.? I then responded in saying, ?? You better because I am your patient and I have concerns.? He proceeds to tell me that what I am calling about is not an emergency, that I need to wait till Monday, that I was the one who came to him with all these problems, and how could he possibly tell everyone of his patients all the risk factors, or the side effects to getting a tooth extraction because there are just to many. Finally, at this point I was in tears, because I have never been treated like this by someone I trusted as a medical professional; especially when the only reason I was calling was because I was concerned for my health. The conversation ended by me saying, fine then I guess I will have to try to wait till Monday, even though I am in extreme pain and I have not really eaten anything besides chicken broth in 5 days. He then proceeds to tell me that after that I need to get another dentist. This is how the conversation was ended.
Now I am extremely concerned, because now after how this conversation went down and how he treated me as a patient, how could I ever possibly trust this dentist again to even fix the mistakes that he has created. I already have great difficulties and phobias being comfortable letting dentists do any work on me, let alone being treated with such an uncaring attitude and disrespect
So now, even though I have paid Dr. Daniel Millikan $3,177.00 in cash I have to go out and find a new dentist to fix the Broken Crown I just had them put in, and have the new dentist look at the extraction to make sure it is healing properly and fix what was done wrong.
I hope this never happens to you or anyone else you know.

Absolutely the worst dentist I have ever been to. Faulty filling installation, un-smooth surfaces... etc. I actually had one filling fall out and they are now refusing to fix it. Yes, so I would definitely not recommend going unless you like being screwed.

My teeth have never felt cleaner after a visit to the dentist. it was quite a while back ago but I remeber the service was good and i didn't loathe going to the dentist as much as I used to. I think i just had a normal clean , scrub, and floride treatment. I already had my braces off by then. The nurse was really nice and so was the doctor. The waiting room was comfortable with usual set of magazine. Overall i would rate this an above average experience. The wait wasn't very long at all the appointments were kept almost exactly on time. I would highly reccomend

PROS: service, facility
CONS: price but that is what insurance is for
