While I had no trouble finding the place, I wish I'd become lost on the way.

When I first arrived, everything seemed fine. The receptionist, Ryan, was nice, polite, and quick to check me in. But as soon as they called me back to one of the patient rooms, the visit went down hill fast.

While I waited in the patient room, a nurse stopped by, looked at my chart, and asked me if I was a new patient. I said yes. She left and proceeded to yell down the hall at the top her lungs, "Why do we have a new patient? Who did this? We can't take care of the patients we have! I can't believe this!" Everyone must have heard her rant, she was so loud.

I couldn't believe how unprofessional and rude she was. I felt completely embarrassed and wanted to leave but my friend recommended the doctor so I waited. After about ten minutes, he came in. Rattled by his nurse, I still answered all of his interview questions -- mostly regarding my lack of medical insurance (I paid $70 cash for the short, awful visit so it wasn't as if he wasn't getting paid).

His diagnosis: I needed to get medical insurance because without it he couldn??t do much of anything to improve my situation.

Really?!

Since then I have seen Dr. Alisa Cahill who is hopeful, helpful, is working toward improving my health, and has a polite and friendly staff who treat me with dignity and respect -- all despite the fact that I'm a new patient who lacks insurance. Imagine that.
