I met Dr. Prpa when I was 21. That is when I found out that I had a back of a 68 year old. Prpa looked at me and said any other Dr. would through me on a table and cut me open tomorrow... but with how young I was there were some things he wanted me to try first to see if I could possibly pro long surgery as long as possible. So for anyone who says he is just interested in the money is absolutley insane! He cares about his patients quality of life and if he can spare them from an operation he does. How many Doctors do you know who throw money out of their own pocket??? Not many these days. I'm 27 now and I've seen him 2 times since my first visit... I've done everything he has asked and even though it's only bought me another 6 years with out suregery... (hopefully it can be more) the life style change that I've made because of him will benefit me in all areas of my life, not just for my back.

leads me to believe that I will be seeking surgery to fix a non-union in my cervical spine very soon. Have had 2 discotomy surgeries at Rush in Chicago, and it took Dr. Prpa barely a discussion and watching how I sit, hold my arms and telling me to show him how I am most comfortable, for him to give an initial diagnosis given my previous history.

I am a 40 year old female, who fell down a flight of stairs and am in chronic pain. I am heavily medicated with very little relief. Dr. Prpa was bold and brash, asked me for complete honesty in all manners of my lifestyle without any judgement - other than stating that I am too young to suffer so greatly and be on such heavy meds IF there is surgery to help. He went so far as to tell me that he wouldn't consider a second appointment until I had several specific tests done - tests my prior neurosurgeons and pain doctors have NEVER even recommended, nor ordered!

Others may not appreciate such blunt bedside manner, but they need to get thicker skin. When you are considering having a person cut open your neck and fuse your spine, they need to be bold and tough. There are too many Dr. Feelgood's out there, prescribing pain meds to people for years without requiring updated. I can only hope my tests show what I believe the problem is and he can fix it, otherwise I have no hope...
