My family has been pushing me to get help for years and although I have had some sense of getting better it has been slow going but now I now feel like there is hope for me. I am liking Dr Shurman better than any other doctor I have seen and my family tells me I am much better than they have seen in a long time.

I have been getting help for my mental health problem for many years now and have not been very happy with the psychiatry profession as a whole but Dr Shurman has been the best thing that has happened to me. I have found him able to explain things to me in a way I understand and he doesn't seem to mind when I ask him to explain more or go over the details again. I don't find him intimidating nor does he have that "I know better than you do so you had better do what I tell you" attitude which makes me unhappy with some of the last few doctors I have gone to. But the best thing for me is that the medication finally work! I believe that because Dr Shurman listened so closely to me and heard what I said, that he was able to find the right medications to help me. That by itself is worth five stars.

Very expensive private pay psychiatrist. Has medication expertise but a horrible bedside manner, and makes terrible ethical decisions. Only a matter of time until he is reported to the board. If you are suffering from mental illness I recommend that you go elsewhere.

Brett Shurman is the worst psychiatrist I have ever been to. After seeing him and having gone on meds that he prescribed, one day I ran out completely of my meds which are the kind of meds that you cannot miss one time. It was a Saturday afternoon around 1:00 pm when I called him on his phone as urgent to have him refill my presciption. When he took my call and after I told him why I was calling, he went postal on me. He told me that I had a lot of nerve calling him on a Saturday and that he should charge me for what I had just done. He then told me that he was not going to call the pharmacy for me until Monday which meant I would go two days without my medication. He was punishing me and teaching me a lesson for calling him on a Saturday.
I went through horrible withdrawals those two days, never went back to him and found a new doctor.
Please take my advice and run if you are ever referred to him. He is mean spirited and should not be in the field he is in.
