I was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome late in life at age 34. I came to Dr. Vlcek at the recommendation of two others with the condition. I have seen him for about ten years and have been very happy with him. He is the only one who explained that one of my tics was "complex" when even a very competent neurologist, at Virginia Maon, retired now, was "unclear" why I looked up. He used a new medication that another neurologist that I see for a different condition said, "is that new?" and is helping me. He spends a very long time listening to me and I would describe his as a combination of a neurologist and psychiatrist due to his listening skills and questioning how my anxiety and obsessive thoughts are. He also once was very understanding when I was having an unusually bad day and when Iasked if he would not hold this against me he almost looked like I was being silly.

I once heard a little boy say to his Mom, "can we come back tomorrow?" and thought I'm sure kids don't say this at other doctors offices!! And how funny that was. I have been very satisfied with Dr. Vlcek and he said even if he retires he would still come in part time because "I love the kids." He seems very dedicated to his specialty and I know he has rushed children to the hospital who have had seizures because he is a regional specialist.

I highly recommend this Neurologist!

Dr. Vlcek is an exceptionally knowledgeable doctor in the area of Tourettes syndrome. He came highly recommended from two different friends of ours as well as our pediatrician. We sought help from another pediatric neurologist in the area who said my son's tics were self-induced. Dr. Vlcek took the time to educate both my husband and I as well as our son about tics. The treatment/medication, Dr. Vlcek recommended worked within days. My son is happy, now has friends, and is doing the best he has ever done in school.
Some people may complain the office wait can be long; but it was worth every minute for our family. Dr. Vlcek spends time with each patient and never rushes us. We are thankful for all Dr. Vlcek is doing for our son.

Dr. Vlcek was a referral from my child's pediatrician and was reported to be a good clinician. After waiting months for an appointment and then waiting 2 1/2 hours on the day of the appointment I found Dr. Vlcek to be like talking to an encyclopedia. That is he provides the medical information but does not adjust it to respond to a specific question or to a specific patient's individual situation.
He seems to be an okay diagnostician but his ability to positively affect the patients quality of life by suggesting appropriate treatment or intervention is stunted. I found myself going home, doing research and then creating my own course of treatment - in order to get his opinion (which was basically, "sure, you could do that") I was obliged to schedule another appointment and wait another 6 weeks.
He is socially challenged and not interpersonally observant, which is a drawback for a neurologist. His communication with children is cursory and he tends to talk about a child like they are not in the room.

After being treated poorly by the receptionist we waited an hour to see Dr. Vlcek. When we told her we may have to leave because we had to get back to work, we were told by her "that's your choice". We finally left without seeing him. The waiting room is tiny and the receptionist was such a joy (sarcasm) that we just asked for our records back and left. My choice is to find another neurologist.

Our son developed epilepsy back when he was in middle school. Dr. Vlcek was fantastic: he immediately established a great rapport with our son and helped him get through it. I would highly recommend Dr. Vlcek

Dr. Vlcek is an excellent neurologist. We have two special needs children and have been going to him for many years. He communicates well with both children and parents and also gets input from teachers in order to understand, diagnose and assist the patient to his best ability. He has truly been a blessing to us.
