My family moved from WA to VA and we needed to find a new ENT as my son has ear issues that need to be monitored. I asked around and found that Dr. Massey is (or was suppose to be) the best in town, and GREAT for children.

When we first talked to Dr. Massey I explained that my son has sensory processing disorder and that he is very sensitive around his head and ear issues. He said he understood and we went ahead with the appointment. We agreed to perform another Tympanoplasty for Alex and scheduled the surgery.

Fast forward to after the surgery (that we have had plenty of experience with) and my son was wheeled out to me with tons of stitches all over his head. Never in my life did I expect that, my son never had stitches in the several times before (with our previous ENT) and honestly I would not have agreed to that unless he absolutely needed it.

About two days after the surgery we went in for a follow up and he was very ruse to my son who was very afraid of him and didn??t want the doctor near him. A well it turns out there was a stint put in to help drainage (another first) and it needed to be removed. Dr. Massey and his staff were very ruse and talked down to my son and used scare tactics to try and get him to cooperate. The doctor would not just shut up and let me talk to my son and explain in children terms what was going to happen. In the end it took 3 nurses and the doctor to hold down my stuff and remove the stint. Afterwards my son calmed down and Dr. Massey turned and said ??now don??t you feel like a baby, it wasn??t that bad was it??

The only reason why we went back 2 weeks later was because he had stitches that still needed to be removed. Let??s just say it was 10x worse than before. I was in tears, my son was hysterical and it was a very bad situation. At the end of this appointment Dr. Massey looked and me and said ??wow, if I knew it was going to be this bad I would never have put stitches in.? Umm, I thought I made it pretty clear this was how it was going to be.

Fast forward another month my son was having his general checkup for school and the pediatrician turned to me and said there is something metal in his ear, right next to his ear drum. My son has never put anything in his ear and the pediatrician said the shape of this object doesn??t look like it could have been put down the ear canal. My only thought it that Dr. Massey left something in after the surgery. We have an appointment with a new ENT to have it looked at. He is very nervous and scared about going to an ear doctor. It was not this way before, and I feel awful about traumatizing my son so much by taking him to Dr. Massey.

We took our two young children to see Dr. Massey. The younger one had to have two surgeries. The surgeries went very well and the pain was well controlled. Dr. Massey listens to your concerns and addresses then well. He is patient and caring with children. After having two surgeries our daughter still wants to go see her favorite doctor. The office staff is excellant as well. They are kind and caring. If I have to wait longer then expected I don't mind, because I know I'll get his complete attention and excellant care.

I saw Dr. Massey a couple of times. During my last visit with him, I waited in the waiting room for a good 45 minutes after my appointment time, and then, waited in the examining room for another forty minutes. During my wait in the room, I could hear him in the next room chit-chatting away with someone. The longer I sat there, the more irritated I became. Not only was my time being wasted, but also the time of my father who took some time from work to watch my son. I confronted Dr. Massey with how long I had been waiting to see him and barely even got an apology. He sort of made a joke about how sometimes he gets to talking and loses track of time. In my opinion, not a good practice for a busy doctor's office. I did not return after that visit. Not only because of this incident, but he seemed to have no clue how to address my problem anyway.
