We are new to the area and were referred by some of my husband's co-workers to Dr. Brent Cardwell, obviously b/c their children never had any issues. I took my fifteen month old in for a well visit last Tuesday. However, she started with diarrhea the next day and also had a fever. I first contributed it to the vaccinations she had received the day before. I called the office on Friday to let them know what was going on and they said that it was not from the vaccinations. I am a stay at home mom and Dr. Cardwell's office was the only place she had been to pick up anything. The nurse said that if she had the same symptoms on Saturday morning to bring her in along with a stool sample. We saw Dr. Hutchins that morning and she said she would look at the sample b/c the nurses didn't like doing it and would send off to the lab for a culture to make sure it wasn't bacterial and required meds. Needless to say, my daughter's diarrhea continued and after calling to check if the results were back daily we finally received a call late Wednesday afternoon stating that they were negative for salmonella, etc. However, the nurse said since my daughter was still having diarrhea that Dr. Cardwell wanted her to come back in the next day (Thursday) to make sure nothing else was going on and to bring in a stool sample. So, we went in and first thing the receptionist tried saying we didn't have an appointment; however, then realized she had input my daughter's name wrong. When finally called back we went to same exam room as she had her shots. Sidenote: Don't appreciate how they do not have separate well and sick rooms or waiting areas. Of course the nurse looked at me funny like why are you here and why do you have a stool sample. Apparently, they don't document phone calls or previous visits in their little I-pads. Lack of documentation is a definite here. So, I had to reexpain everything and then the nurse was upset b/c I didn't have one of their collection containes to have put her sample in. She wouldn't touch it and said she'd leave it for the dr. b/c she didn't have any orders. When he came in of course he did NOTHING again. Said it was probably a virus and would stil have to run it's course. Meanwhile, my daughter had lost a pound in a week. He said he'd get the orders for some add'l labs for the stool samples and the nurse would be in to see if there was enough sample. The nurse finally came back in and automatically handed me more containers with directions to the nearest CPL (overpriced lab). She didn't even look at what I brought in. She said the dr. said it wan't enough. This was a definite lie and truth was she didn't want to transfer current sample into new container. Therefore, I have to collect additional samples and spend my time and gas taking it to the lab. Unbelievable!!!!!!!! Will definitely be looking for a new pediatrician in the Leander/Cedar Park area.

We are new to the area and heard great things about Dr. Cardwell. Both of my boys who are 12 months and 3 years old loved him. The staff was very friendly and they took us back before I could even finish the paperwork. Dr. Cardwell was great with my children and spent a lot of time discussing nutrition and behavior (which I needed)
