.

I've been in Dr. Brodie's care for 10 yrs. After dealing with a frustrated and frightening experience with other MDs unable to pinpoint a diagnosis or treatment - I was finally referred to Brodie. He saw me the next day, booking the appt. at 8AM, before reg. clinic office hours. At that visit, Dr. Brodie begin his effort to diagnose and treat my disease - taking an extensive medical history, conducting a thorough physical exam, interviewing my spouse.

After his examination, Dr. Brodie clearly explained to me what he knew - and equally as important - what he didn't at that point. He patiently answered all my questions. When asked what the possible diagnosis might be - he gave me an honest answer, describing a range conditions or diseases that were on the list. And, in doing so, he made his recommendations for how best to proceed, initiating a process aimed at narrowing that list. Dr. Brodie's diagnostic efforts started with ordering needed tests, particularly an extensive blood panel. At the same time, he referred me to a number of other specialists he enlisted to help find the answer to my most pressing question: "what is wrong with me?"

That initial appt. that began at 8AM concluded w/a stop at the clinic's lab - ending at Noon. Though the diagnosis remained a mystery at the point, I left Dr. Brodie's office feeling great relief - I'd found a doctor who understood the fear that grips a patient confronting debilitating symptoms that have eluded diagnosis. He was thorough, clear, honest - giving me all the time I needed during that initial appt. But most of all, he was clearly determined to figure out what was ailing me and get to a course of treatment aimed at giving me my life back - and, in my experience, a doctor willing to make that kind of commitment to their patients' care is a rare find.

I would eventually learn that I have RA - and it has proven to be a particularly confounding disease. But, under Dr. Brodie's care, he was always mindful of the full impact RA can have - paying attention to my mental and physical well-being. While trying many therapies that fell short, 3 years ago, I began a course of treatment that has been nothing short of a miracle. With the successful control of the most debilitating symptoms - I've regained some semblance of normalcy in daily life and it is hard to comprehend how much that means, until you've lost it. Because Dr. Brodie stood by me, bringing great compassion and the needed skill, care and determination to bear - I got back something I'd long ago given up hoping for: a life. And for that, I am deeply grateful.
