.

I, too, found Carol on the Psychology Today website and was attracted by her promise to "provide a safe, supportive, and confidential environment to encourage self exploration, personal development, and growth." She fulfills all parts of this promise during our weekly conversations. Prior to my first visit with Carol, I had planned to meet her, learn if she felt I could benefit from therapy, but ultimately decline her services and select a different provider that would be completely covered by insurance since Carol was not. Instead, after our hour-long introduction, I knew it would be well worth any financial sacrifice to be in Carol??s care. She assured me that she was the hardest working therapist in the field and that, despite my worries of being a ??lost cause,? that ??we will not grow old together.? Her initial confidence in me to overcome the problems I had discussed was inspiring; I knew I had taken my first step down a positive path.

I have now been visiting Carol for just over a year, and I know I am a different person....closer to the one I want to be...as a result of our time together.

Carol spots destructive patterns in my life and helps me to think about how to break these routines. She weeds through my jumbled stories to help identify my passions and encourages me to explore new ways to express those passions. She takes the time outside of our visits to read emails that I write to her describing an experience or sharing a feeling that I am having and provide feedback.

Carol will not sit back in a comfy chair with her eyes closed nodding, ??Tell me more.? She is active in our sessions...sharing examples that I can relate to, recapping what I am trying to say in a way that allows me to view the situation differently, and asking me to think about the perspective of other people in my life with whom I interact. Although our sessions are mentally exhausting, Carol is a source of energy in my life. She provides unconditional support in a world that is quick to jump on you when you are not perfect.

I continue to make mistakes, slip from time to time, doubt myself, and wrestle with the past. Fortunately, I have Carol to help me learn something new about myself from these experiences and turn them into a positive change in my life.
