We were "fired" from Dr. Bianchi after I told the receptionist my daughter was not vaccinated. She never asked as to the reasoning, if they were medically related or preferential. Only after I told her that we had been seen twice already, did she then call me back after speaking with the doctor to say that they had changed their policy regarding non-vaccinated children, still not asking the reasons, and that that policy had been in place for years and she's not sure how I got seen the other 2 times. I was offered no care and no direction or even consulted about vaccinating. Shame on your "care" for children.

Pediatrician??s Dilemma: Drop Families That Refuse To Vaccinate?

May 20, 2011 | 3:13 PM | By Carey Goldberg

Dr. Lisa Lehmann, director of the Center for Bioethics at Brigham and Women??s Hospital. says, part of the pediatrician??s role is to develop a relationship of trust with families. Terminating a relationship seems like ??an easy out.? If a pediatrician conveys all the arguments in favor of vaccination in the context of a trusting relationship, she said, ??hopefully, over time, people change their minds.?

If a doctor does decide to drop a family Lisa noted, it must be done properly so that the patient is not ??abandoned:? The doctor must give notice, make sure the parents understand the reasons, and make sure they have another source of care.

But more broadly, she said, if too many pediatricians start refusing care to anti-vaccine families, ??there could be a huge issue in terms of access to care. And why should you penalize the child whose parents refuse to vaccinate by not allowing them access to medical care?? Especially when, with time, it may be possible to persuade the parents. ??Just saying ??We??re not going to take care of you,?? is, to me, on some level, irresponsible.?

Every time I take my children to see Dr. Bianchi I feel like I am getting an honest, professional opinion. My children feel very comfortable with him...he has a great bedside manner. In a world where there are so many doctors to "try" I am glad that I have found one that I trust to share my children with. I would recommend him to anyone new to Tucson or any of my friends.

I used Dr. Bianchi for around 3 years for my oldest child and had no problems. However, my youngest developed eczema and instead of really explaining things, the doctor seemed to just keep prescribing new medicines. Nothing was really working. I switched doctors, and was told how to treat the eczema at home as well as use medication. The condition cleared up and we haven't had any other problems.
