My personal experience with this doctor was not positive. When I went the wait times were very long and an appointment was once cancelled after I arrived. I also had problems with billing. She did surgery at Barnes and my experience both with the staff at the hospital and with her and her office for follow up was not good at all. Patient care was poor and my opinion is that she was not as good of a surgeon as I had hoped she would be after meeting her in her office. Her office staff was rude and my calls, even after surgery, were not returned by her.

I had a very simple request, a copy of my records to be sent to me. By law, according to HIPPA, they have 30 days to do so. It is now 10 weeks after my initial request, in writing and I have nothing. When I call they tell me they have been busy. I have reported them to the Department of Health. I wouldn't revisit this office if my uterus was falling out!

All of the comments are true...
waits are long; care is excellent. The staff I have worked with, Veronica, Sandra, and the ultrasound lady, are great. Because Dr. Dean does her own surgeries usually on Mondays and Fridays, and in my case my 3-5 hour surgery due to old scar tissue was over 7 hours, it puts her behind especially on Mondays and Fridays. But not many doctors have Saturday hours as she does. I appreciate that. Her office has called me to say she is running late and ask if I want to reschedule. She has called me in response to a question after my surgery, and recommended that I call the office the next day to check to see if she is running behind. It is inconvenient to those sitting in the office and I sympathize because we are all on tight schedules most of the time. I trust her to do a good job, and will continue going back to her even if I have to wait. She has a family of her own and works very late. I wonder why she schedules so many patients. All I can figure is that she has so many patients because she is so good, and she tries her best to serve our health needs. She is just as inconvenienced as we are, it appears to me. I think she is dedicated.

This practice is simply substandard. First visit was over 3.5 hours....routine, new patient visit.
They do not return calls when in medical crisis --after 5 days--and repeated attempts.

Do NOT waste your time here. Too many excellent practices to choose from.

I've been a patient of Dr. Dean's for many years and often recommend her to friends and family based on her association with Washington University and her well-known surgical skills. However, my annual visit earlier in 2008 was rather unpleasant due to the long wait to see Dr. Dean, and some of the staff seemed disorganized. When I needed to return recently for a problem, I considered going elsewhere just to avoid these issues, but decided to stick with Dr. Dean at least to get through my current problem.

Well, I'm certainly happy I decided to stay! Dr. Dean was great as always, and it appears she and her partner have been listening to patient concerns. They have turned over a few key staff members that were less than "stars" while retaining the people who keep me coming back (Sandra at the desk and her nurse Veronica).

The building is a bit difficult to access these days given highway 40 construction and the new retail development taking place in front of the building, but the interior is undergoing some great updates and I'm told Dr. Dean's office is also scheduled for remodeling in the near future (off-hours, so patient care shouldn't be affected).

You won't find a better OB/GYN physician, and the office and staff are on the way to being excellent (though I suppose staff problems come and go at any office).

I'll never go anywhere else!

Every time I go I barely see the doctor and if so she's always in a rush to get in and out of the office. I can't say it is the best place I've been to but they will get the job done... eventually. I once made an appointment to see the doctor and a nurse came in and took my pulse etc and told me to wait for the doctor. I literally waited for over an hour before someone came back into the room. I felt bad for my boyfriend sitting in the waiting room - I'm sure he thought something serious was happening. It wasn't until I asked a nurse what was going on did someone come and assist me and I still had to wait. If you can find another place I would take it.

Like most women, I'd rather not spend a day in the GYN office, but when it's time to go, I'm glad I can go to Dr. Dean. She is a good doctor who relates to her patients well. I am also comfortable with the nurse practicioner in the practice, so it's nice to have an alternative when one needs to make an appointment with short notice. The nurses and other office staff have always been friendly and helpful. The office is conveniently located off of 40, though the area can be hectic.
