Dr. Dorfman is an incredibly talented and skillful dentist. The cosmetic work is truly artful and inconspicuous.

There is usually no waiting time or minimal waiting time, because they do not overbook. The staff is great and the other

I used to go to another dentist and was always apprehensive about appointmentswhat would he be doing, how long would it take, would it hurt, how much was it going to cost. Switching to Dr. Dorfmans office was the best move I could have

Just finished a treatment. Disappointed, especially considering what they charged. It was like they were using a taxi meter to charge for dental service. Dr. Dorfman is all about protecting his business and making sure his profit

I'm fairly new to this dental office, but so far, I like my experience.
First, a warning: They are not insurance dentists. In other words, unless you have out of network dental coverage, you will foot the entire bill yourself.
That being said, I have never had more 1 on 1 attention and explanation from any dentist, ever. I haven't had any major work done, but their fillings are invisible, I literally cannot see where they are once they're done. That goes for the teeth that used to have those huge silver fillings. Worth it if you can foot the bill.

Pros: They take a lot of time with you to get it right and make it look good.

Cons: Not part of insurance, expensive (but you get what you pay for).

I used to be a jewelry designer. So when I went in for veneers I was EXTREMELY picky as to how they would look. They had to have the perfect shape, texture, color, and relation to the overall look. I made Dr. Dorfman send back the wax models 5 times before they were perfect and the real veneers could be made. He never yelled at me, was always patient and on my side, and my teeth look perfect, more than perfect, they look exactly like I want them to.

My title pretty much sums it up. These guys do great dental work without wasting your time. If you need a specialist, (like an oral surgeon for pulling a tooth in my case), they bring the specialist to you. No endless waiting and referrals to other offices.
Warning, it is not cheap, but you are paying for the experience of good dentistry with no pain and no time-wasting. Worth it to me.

Pros: No wasted time, smart, nice looking dental work, no pain

Cons: Expensive

I visited NYC on a shopping trip this last season and day one, broke a filling. The concierge was nice enough to recommend me to Dr. Dorfman. He fixed the problem quickly and beautifully, and didn't hassle me about other dentistry (seeing as I'm from out of town). I recommend him highly to fellow NYC tourists, or residents of the city looking for a great dentist.

Pros: Quick, Beautiful work, not a gold-digger type doctor after your wallet.

Cons: He isn't located near California.

I was in an accident last year and needed implants to fix some of the damage done. I have to say, even though I'd rather I didn't need to go at all, they did fantastic work. Everyone was very nice, very professional, they didn't push me into anything, and my new teeth actually look better than the originals.
It did take several months to complete, but that includes time to heal from the implants. An oral surgeon placed them, there was no pain during the surgery, and really not too much after (during recovery). The temporary teeth they put in during the healing looked better than some of the veneers my friends have from other dentists. I never felt self-conscious about smiling. The permanent teeth went in last week, no pain, no problems, no fooling around with my time. They look beautiful, and I'm happy with the results, enough said.

Pros: Very attentive staff and doctors, very nice dental work.

Cons: None really, the price is a little high, but worth it for getting my teeth fixed well.

No dentist is 5 stars, that would be a magical dentist that would fix your teeth without you ever having to come in to the office.
That being said, the Center for Special Dentistry is pretty great. I have been coming to this place for my teeth for about 3 years now. Just went today for a filling. (Last minute flex spending, you know...)
When I first came I was really nervous about dentists, and I still don't really like them, but at least I am not afraid and can take care of my smile. The main doctor (Dr. Dorfman) is a very nice man. He takes alot of time explaining everything before he does anything. That way you can ask questions, or refuse and accept treatment based on knowledge, it really helps if you're nervous going in.
My treatment has always been "conservative" there, I've never felt like I was being talked into something I didn't need. The work is also really nice, and I have never had to wait at all.
So yes, I recommend it, alot, but not 5 stars, because it's a dentist, not a resort.

Seriously. Dr. Dorfman and his staff are the best dentists in New York that I have been to. He explains everything, doesn't patronize you, acts like a person, and treats you like a friend. Though going to the dentist is noone's idea of a good time, Dr. D makes the experience painless and worthwhile. Now if I could only find a good mechanic I'd be set!

I went to the Center for Special Dentistry last month to see about changing my smile. I work on broadway, and though my teeth are fine for being on stage, in headshots I had pumpkin teeth.
Obviously, braces weren't really an option, but I had heard good things about Dr. Dorfman's office from some other performers and I thought I'd check it out.
Amazing.
The dentist that treated me was Dr. Joe. Cool guy, very informative, gave me several options and let me know the costs up front. He suggested "cosmetic bonding" to close the gaps in my teeth, and a bleaching to whiten them. Basically, the same stuff they use to make the tooth colored fillings for cavities they can use to reshape your teeth.
I did the bleaching first, Fast, Easy. Then when the color was to my liking I went in for the bonding. Two hours later, Bam, total Brad Pitt hollywood leading man teeth. Awesome color, great shape, totally DO NOT look fake, and no pain or hassle. That guy is amazing. So two short visits, complete satisfaction.
Since then I've gotten tons of complements and new kick-a$$ headshots. I absolutely recommend The Center for Special Dentistry and will be returning for anything I need dentally.

Cons: no real cons

I recently went to Dr. Jeffrey Dorfman at The Center for Special Dentistry. The office is on 49th and Madison, the address posted here is outdated.
Though saying it seems odd, it was a great experience. The office is lovely. Hardwood floors, flat screen monitors with current shows playing (The Office, Entourage, even movies), digital x-rays (fast!), and nice views out the window (St. Patrick's Cathedral is beautiful).
Dr. Dorfman and Dr. Joe are two of the doctors I met in the office. Both of them spent alot of time talking with me, getting to know me as a person, and explaining everything they were doing in actual english.
Initially I had my teeth cleaned and xrays taken. Kathleen, the hygienest is fantastic, super-gentle, but super-thorough. My mouth felt so clean afterwards, but not raw and sore like some cleanings I've had.
Afterwards Dr. Dorfman and Dr. Joe went over my xrays with me. My past dentist told me I had over 10 cavities, but when I asked to see the xrays he told me I wouldn't understand them.
Dr. Joe gladly went over them, and unfortunately I did have quite a few, but I appreciated him taking the time to work with me, it let me trust his diagnosis, and that he wasn't trying to overcharge me for stuff I didn't need.
Dr. Dorfman actually filled my cavities at a later visit, and he did a beautiful job. There was absolutely no pain, and the tooth colored bondings match my real teeth so well that I can't see where they begin and end. It looks like natural teeth! He took pictures all the way through so that I could see what he was doing. Again, I appreciated his honesty and his willingness to make decisions WITH me, not FOR me.
I do have to say that it is not cheap, but it was worth the expense. If you want to be treated like a person and get beautiful dentistry done by doctors you can trust, then I highly recomment The Center for Special Dentistry and Dr. Dorfman.
