Dr. Yanuck was the first therapist I had who listened to me and supported me and challenged me. She is a warm, safe, ethical, empathic therapist who made me feel genuinely cared for. I miss her. I deeply disagree that she is not mothering. How else could I have placed her - in my mind - in that mothering position so easily? She is quite warm and caring. And though she keeps herself at a professional distance (as ALL therapists should), that does not mean I could never feel her incredible warmth coming across the room.

For the past fourteen years Dr. Yanuck has patiently helped me create "Sunshine From Darkness" in my life. I'm not one to write reviews, and this is my first.

After reading the first post by mvkmako, I have questions regarding the "comments." I did take the time to pull up the profile where this individual has rated many Psychiatrists. The term "mothering" is attached to the individual's Psychriatrist of choice. I do agree; Dr. Yanuck is not mothering; instead she is empowering.

She has been my strong, powerful advocate when I was too sick to be my own. She has been a conscientious listener and practioner. She has been emotionally present with me when I was too sick to be emotionally present for myself.

I do not understand the "straight-laced" description unless it is meant to mean "professional." She combines both holistic methods and conventional medicine as needed.

As to the comment of being overly concerned about time and money, she has demonstrated generosity and timely responses to me. When the recession hit, I was very ill, and my spouse was temporarily without pay. Dr. Yanuck was kind to treat me and hold my check until my spouse was back on salary.

I have a long history of gratitude toward Dr. Yanuck. We have forged a path together which has led to my mental and physical health.

I have recommended her to my friends, and I recommend her here as a Psychiatrist for anyone seeking excellent comprehensive care.

For more information, I suggest you read her professional website and the articles she has published there.

Two books which offer hope and encouragement for anyone suffering with mental illness:

"The Center Will Not Hold: My Journey Through Madness," by Elyn Saks.

*"Sunshine From Darkness," by Nancy Glidden Smith.

~"Your Vision will become clear only when you look into your heart, who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakens." Carl Jung~

I have worked with Dr. Yanuck for several years, and she has always been very empathetic, warm and caring. She is always open to discussing any issues that may come up, and whether I display anger, love, fear or any other emotion, she always handles it with complete professionalism and empathy. She made the boundaries of the relationship clear from the beginning and has never crossed them so as to keep me feeling safe and supported.

Dr. Yanuck is very experienced at working with Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder and sexual abuse issues. She is trained in EMDR and uses this treatment with much success. She is a strong supporter of DBT and, for those who would benefit from it, recommends several groups that teach DBT.

Her office is conveniently located off I-40 and 15-501. It is small but warm with a big overstuffed leather chair for the client. She is almost always right on time for my appoitnments, but the few times she has been late, it has never been by more than five minutes, and then she gives me extra time at the end of the session to make up for it. During particularly intense sessions, she will let me know a few minutes in advance that the session is about to be up; that gives me an opportunity to pull myself together before having to face the world. She is excellent at keeping the session within the proper time limits so that other patients aren't kept waiting.

I suppose I can see why the other reviewer felt she was stuffy. When talking with her on the phone she has a very professional demeanor, and in session she is not always quick to laugh or joke around. But during session she has never been anything but fully engaged, warm and empathetic. She prefers not to do much talking during session, as she wants the client to determine the course of conversation. She has never forced her opinions or beliefs on me and allows me to come to my own conclusions in my own time.

Pros: Location, Punctuality, Ease of making appointments, Availability by phone, Supportive, Experienced

Cons: Cost

Dr. Yanuck was not helpful...she was extremely straight-laced and did not make me feel comfortable what-so-ever. She was your stereotypical psychiatrist that seemed more concerned about the time and money than she was about my problems, concerns, needs, and feelings.
