My gripe is not with the doctor but with the nurses/staff. Dr. Gilbert & the other doctors here have been nothing but good to me. The perinatal docs they had me see saved my son's life before he was born so absolutely no problems with the doctors. The nurses & office staff I have spoken with on the phone however have been less than desireable. First off I called in a refill for a script & whoever listened to the message got it wrong & called back accusing me of being a drug seeker because they thought I was calling in for another medication I had gotten filled earlier taht week (I had been taking 2 different meds they prescribed for me). Long story. I told the nurse to listen to the message again & she snapped back, "I just don't change the messages". Then refused to refill any more medications for me, wouldn't let me explain & hung up on me. I called back & asked to speak directly with the doctor but got some story that he couldn't be paged. None of this made sense as none of those medications were narcotics or controlled substances, how can someone be a "drug seeker" for a non narcotic med? but I was more than livid. Then I had been in the office for an unplanned pregnancy & told the nurse I wanted to talk to the doc because I didn't know what I was going to do, she asked me if I wanted to talk about abortion with a surprised look & then gave the coldest or cold shoulders the rest of the visit, I also spoke with one of the nurses on the phone later about the same topic & they didn't really want to talk with me, again snapped back at me scolding "we don't do those type of things here", which I knew but just wanted a referral or to speak with someone about it. I wanted to ask the nurse a medical question about pregnancy over 35 she almost practically hung up on me. Be warned, this place is obviously run through a religious hospital so anything taht has to do with pregnancy termination they'll make you feel as if you have leprosy, not the best place to get support or counseling if you have an unplanned pregnancy. I'm a 37 yr old wife of 12 yrs & a mom to a 5 yr old little boy but forget about it if I wanted help with an unplanned pregnancy, if you can get past the army of nurses to talk to the doc you'll be lucky. The treatment I got from the nurses pertaining to the unplanned pregnancy is what helped make my final decision to not go back. I understand everyone has their own opinion on abortion & I respect both sides of the issue but I never expected to get an outward show of disrespect verbally from the staff. If they hate me for it fine, but to verbalize their hate is a whole other story, it had to do with my health as I'm high risk in pregnancy & I had concerns & was apprehensive about if another pregnancy would endanger my health, but the nurses wouldn't hear it & treated me like crap for even thinking about abortion. You'd think I just killed their puppy by the way they acted. I'm not saying I disagree with their opinion but as medical professionals I felt it was very unprofessional for healthcare providers to actually verbalize their personal opinions upon their patients & treat the patient in a lousy way because of their personal choices. Again, Saint Lukes hence religious facility which obviously won't condone abortion or anything of the like. When pregnant with my son one doc told me I was lucky they approved having a cerclage because they're religious & usually don't believe in "intervening" in a pregnancy (Dr. Sallash told me this, by the way he's a great doc there)....without the cerclage my son would have died early on from an incompetent cervix which was shortening & funneling & many other things.......real nice.
