After having x-rays done, the dentist informed me that I have 4 cavities, one on each molar and it would require 4 different visits to fix them. I told the dentist I didn't have the time to make 4 different appointments. At this point the dentist started his procedures to remove the cavities and do the fillings. He numbed me with a large syringe that looked like it was filled with mashed bananas. After an hour wait he came back in and asked me if I was numb. I was so numb that I could barely open my mouth which upset him and he then yanked me jaw open. My mouth swelled up and bruised more than it did when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Since that visit, my jaw constantly pops, and on the right day it even causes pain from the loud popping.

young family dental, in orem, is a joke. I received services today and had 4 teeth filed. the dentist spent a total of 10 minutes on my mouth the entire time i was in the office. The amount of time spent on my mouth was less then it takes someone to use the bathroom. During my visit the "doctor" treated me like a piece of trash that was below him, he made no eye contact and gave a smirk with every question i asked. If this wasn't bad enough, the second he was done with his little 10 minute procedure he said " oh, i hate to do this but your prices are going to be close to double what we quoted you because the cavity was deeper then exams showed," knowing i don't have insurance, and would be forced to line the inside of his pockets regardless of the truth or not. Any professional would give me a higher estimate before doing any work whatsoever. If you like greed and disrespect this is the place for you... YOUNG FAMILY DENTAL GIVES ALL DENTISTS A BAD NAME. Save yourself money and self respect and avoid these A**holes at all costs.

My family and I went to Young Family Dental for about a year, but we will not be going back. We saw several of their dentists who seemed good, but everytime we saw Dr. Chris we had a bad experience. At my last appointment I thought it was quite ridiculous that he was yelling at his nurse because she wasn't fast enough, that he literally started throwing instruments, shaking my chair, and screaming at me to open wider. If my tooth wasn't all cut open, I would have just gotten up and left. Totally unprofessional!

Another time my husband took our 8 year old in and Dr. Chris pulled six of her baby teeth, one of which he hadn't even numbed for. My daughter was completely fine, until he pulled the one he hadn't numbed for, and then of course she was hysterical. The hygienist came in afterword and apologized, but my child is still terrified to go back to the dentist now. And after consulting with our new dentist (who had Young Family Dental send over the previous x-rays) he said he couldn't believe he had even taken them out in the first place!

Bottom line...go somewhere else.

These guys in AF are like the lousy fast food restaraunt of dentistry (they even share a building with a burger joint and pet store... im not making this up). My old caring and skilled dentist no longer accepts my insurance so I was forced to find a new place to get work done.

Rather than one dentist working on me I have had a different one on every visit. My last visit with Dr Chris Young inspired me to write this review and warning to anyone considering this practice.

This doctor came in and with out so much as a grumble reached in and yanked my wisdom teeth without even checking to see if I was numbed yet. Unfortunatley the dental hygenist who administered the local pain killers didnt know what she was doing and even admitted so. After stabbing a nerve that lit my whole face on fire she missed the other side completely as I found out when Dr Chris W Young began yanking and I couldnt contain my voice as I yelled in pain. He was extremely rude as he told me I was only feeling pressure and making it worse on myself. Without even a 1 second pause he pulled the other side which fortunately was very numb and I didnt even flinch. When it was over he was in the other room before I could even catch my breath.

Also, on a side note they have their dental assistants do 80% of the work. They are either rude and condescending or polite and incompetent. They all are constantly trying to up sell you and barely give your mouth time to heal before scheduling your next visit.

I could write a whole book on these guys so I will just wrap it up.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! Please don't let these guys have your business.

Young Family dental was so great. They helped my 8 year old son with a really bad toothache on the same day. They were able to get him right in and fixed what he needed that day. The doctor was so great with him and the assistant was awesome. I am so shocked to see what people say about this great office. The staff was amazing. I will definitly be back to the office with my other kids. Thanks Young family dental.

I went in and told the hygenist and dentise explicitly I could not have epi. Not only did he give it to me in a booster, he and the hygenist were rude about my passing out. I can not trust them with my health, so I will not trust them with my childrens. The front office staff has always seemed to have a chip on their shoulders. I have only used my lifetime whitening twice, and they will not let me transfer it to another office or give a partial refund. Why would I have a dentist do my x-rays for a whitening refill when I will have to go get another doctor to do the work, and he will need x-rays too? Now the dentist is lying about whether or not the shots reach your blood stream. Seriously, no one is that dumb. We all know it will end up in our blood. I can not believe they really think I would fake hyperventilating and passing out, then try to convince me it didn't happen. Every time we go in there seems to be a "price adjustmet" on everything. I did have a good experience in Orem with Dr. Cerney, but AF is going to end up sued for their dishonesty and recklesness with patients lives.

I took my son there for his first dental visit. The staff was unfriendly and the dentist did not seem to have any experience with children. It left my son so scared of the dentist, that when I took him to the new dentist (which was wonderful), it took 3 visits to finally get him comfortable with the dentist and now he is no longer afraid. They overbilled us and had to wait months for our refund. If anyone is thinking of taking their children there, I would suggest almost any other pediatric dentist. Horrible place for children..

I am one of those people that don't like the dentist. I hadn't been to the dentist for about 2 years. I chose Young Family Dental because of some referrals I had received. I had my cleaning and exam done. I was so pleased with them. My teeth weren't as bad as I thought. I did however need my wisdom teeth out. I was scared to death. I scheduled to come back and was able to get my wisdom teeth out and my fillings done in one visit, that was a relief to me. The assistants and the doctor were so patient with me being anxious. Since then I have brought my entire family in to see the doctors here. They are fast, efficient and honest. I know some reviews I read say they are upset about having to pay at the time they are seen, that's just common sense though. I loved the fact they could "ESTIMATE" my copay. I had to pay a little more but at least it wasn't a big amount when I received my bill. Thank you so much for the awesome care. I will definitely be back.

My family and I have been patients of Young Family Dental for 5 years or more. I love the atmosphere there, the doctors and employees are so friendly. My daughter had a very bad experience at a different dentist office so she was really scared the first visit at Young Family Dental. The assistance were so nice and patient with her. They took there time and talked with her to calm her down. I know now that I will be life long patients, especially my daughter. I recommend all my friends and people I see to Young Family Dental.

I went to Young Family Dental in AF for a cleaning and their whitening for life. During the initial visit I was told that their teeth whitening was $25. I paid this and received the kit. A couple of weeks later I received a bill for $17. When I called I was told that it was for teeth whitening. When I tried to explain that I had already paid for it, I was told that their had been a price adjustment. They refused to remove the bill so I was stuck paying extra so I would not be sent to collections. I was hosed.

During the exam I was told that I had 8 cavities. While this seemed really high because I have always had really good teeth, it was plausible because I had not been to the dentist in about 7 years. Because they over-billed me for the teeth whitening I went to another dentist to fix the cavities. During their exam I was told that I had TWO cavities, not 8. The dentist was shocked that I had been told I had 8 because the 2 that I did have were really small. DON'T go to Young Family Dental. They will totally try and over-bill you and do unnecessary procedures

We went to Young Family Dental since it is closer to home and they offered free teeth whitening for life.

We have been very disappointed in the several times we have visited their office. The office is nice, clean, and new. The staff is friendly. But what matters most is where they have the most room for improvement... the actual dental care.

Each time we have taken our kids in they take them all in separate rooms at the same time which doesn't give us the opportunity to be with each one while they are being seen and decisions regarding their treatment are being made.

For example, our daughter was seen while we weren't in the room, and then the dental assistant told my wife that our daughter would have to have a baby tooth pulled at the recommendation of the dentist. A week later, when we went back in to have the tooth pulled a different dentist came in to do it and asked, "Why are we pulling this tooth?" Because he didn't see the need. Then when he easily pulled the tooth with his fingers he laughed and said, "You could have done that at home."

Another time when my wife and kids went in for a cleaning and check-up, they wanted to take x-rays and my wife instructed them not to take x-rays because our insurance only covers one set of x-rays per year and it had only been six months since they had x-rays taken. When the dentist came in and asked where the x-rays were, the dental assistant snidely said, "Their insurance only pays for one a year... which is sooo uncommon." To make matters worse, they couldn't find the x-rays in their computer which THEY had taken only six months prior!!!

Overall, our biggest complaint is that they work on our kids without us being present and seem to recommend treatments or procedures that might not really be needed, just so they can more than recoup the cost of the "free" teeth whitening. At Young Family Dental, we feel more like a number than a name.

We didn't realize just how good we had it with the personalized care, attention to detail, and fully explained treatment at our last dentist. Even though it's much further to drive and they are only open three & a half days a week, we will go back to Dr. Carl Shoff in American Fork from now on. It's worth it.

I went to them because they are close and they had a pediatric dentist that was awesome! So the first visit was great, he was excellent with my son but also informed me that he was going to retire. So I continued to go there because I thought they may be comitted to the same care with children, but they really aren't. They have maybe one dental assistant that is good with kids. But I actually had one get upset with my son because he gags. They are fine with adults and actually are one of the only dentists that don't kill me with their jabbing needle shots. I just don't go to the dentist except for my kids so I am going to be finding someone else.

I found this page by accident, I was just looking for the phone number of Young Dental, but when I saw these negative reviews, I thought I should write my own. We primarily chose this office due to proximity, but I found it very satisfactory in many other ways. The staff was very nice to me. There was hardly a 5 minute wait to get in and the cleanings and fillings were done very quickly. The dentist didn't have any problem with me coming back to be near my kids (ages 7 and 5), though I didn't ask permission either. He also seemed very good with the kids, he could talk on their level. Afterward, my kids received new toothbrushes, toys and a balloon. I have no complaints about this office. It's too bad others have not had a good experience.

I took my young daughter to have her first dentist appointment with their pediatric dentist. The first visit was fairly uneventful but she had to come back two weeks later to get fillings. I was a little annoyed that they couldn't be done on the sameday instead of having to make another trip. When it was her turn for the second visit the dentist himself came out to the waiting area and asked her to come back. He told me to stay in the waiting area and when I said that I was going to go back with her he got a little angry with me. I was shocked that a medical professional would think it was ok to take a small child off by themselves. That will be my last trip to that office. I found the office staff to be nice but my overall opinon of that dentist is very low.

I recently went to this dental office to fix some teeth pain and while they fixed the problem I wasn't too impressed with the staff or professionalism. The entire time I was in the dental chair the dentist was carrying on a personal conversation with the dental assistant. And on occassion there would be a slip of his hand and I would get jabbed. While I am happy that I no longer have teeth pain, I don't think I'll be recommending this dental office to my friends.

PROS: Close to Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs
CONS: Not too professional, not very friendly
