Dr. Clarke is nice enough, but I just don't feel like he took the time to really try and understand my particular problem or what I wanted from my patient relationship with him. He doesn't ask many probing questions, as he seemed to just want to slot me into a predetermined treatment path after hearing certain words.

When I started asking questions to try and understand the endoscopy findings and treatment options, he and the staff seemed irritated and like they did not know what to say. As if I was just supposed to accept what I was told whether I understood it or not. I did finally get some satisfactory answers to my questions from him later, but I felt like I was pulling teeth to get them.

Though my digestive problems aren't seriously acute (I was already controlling most of them with diet), I was prescribed the maximum dose of a colitis medicine, which I had a bad reaction to.

This is what I mean by predetermined treatment paths. Though I usually only have problems once or twice a week ongoing, I felt like I was getting the same treatment as someone who's in agony every day during a cyclical flareup. It wasn't until I talked to the nurse practitioner that I was finally able to get off of this path and onto the diagnostic one that I had originally sought Dr. Clarke's help for.

I saw Dr Clarke when I was having some stomach problems that my internal medicine doctor was unable to diagnose. I was refered to another doctor but my sister had actually seen Dr. Clarke in the past and like him so I chose to go to him. He listened to all that I had going on and decided that an endoscopy would be the best way to go. He performed the endoscopy for me at St Vincent Carmel . I was dehydrated from being sick and unable to eat and the nurses were unable to get my IV in, after several tries they called him in and he was able to get it in. Before the procedure I was in the little room they do it in and I was very nervous. He made me laugh by teasing me about my ratty jeans which really made me feel better and helped calm me down. He sedated me enough that I don't remember a single thing about the procedure. I would recommend him to anyone. He is a great doctor and he has a good personality.
