I recently moved to Portland, OR, from California, in August, 2009. I have moderately bad allergies and had been receiving allergy immunizations in San Jose, CA from a wonderful clinic, and had been under the care of a truly fantastic allergy doctor since summer, 2007. He recommended one of the doctors at the downtown Portland clinic to me when I moved, so I made an appointment and came in. I saw Dr. K. It had been several months since I had an injection, due to moving and traveling for my new job, and Dr. K told me I had to go back in my injection schedule to assure there was no reaction. I appreciated his interest in my health, although his choice of schedules seemed to err very far on the side of caution, and his bedside manner left something to be desired. However, I am no doctor, so I accepted his plan.

When I started care with their office, I also started a new insurance. My co-payments for doctor??s visits went from $8 to $30, and I assumed that I would have a $30 co-payment for each injection visit. When I came to their office for my first injection, I went to the front desk to pay the co-payment. I spoke with a young woman who informed me that there are no co-payments for injection visits; she said I did not even need to check in with her, but to go directly to the shot station for my injections. I found that difficult to believe, but she claimed she looked up my account and informed that, indeed, I had no co-payments.

Upon receiving the news that I did not have to pay $30 for each set of shots, I started going to the office for shots as often as I could so as to work back up to my previous monthly immunizations. I WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE SO IF I HAD KNOWN I HAD TO PAY $20 FOR EACH SET OF SHOTS. I only found that out when I got a bill for $140. Had I known the cost, I would have only gone twice a month, at most.

Because of this, I have been forced to give up my immunizations completely, losing the YEARS I have invested in this course of treatment. To say I am upset and dismayed about this is an understatement.

However, I would like to add that the injection nurses and the main clinic nurses were absolutely fabulous. They were kind, patient, and welcoming, and I have to give the clinic two stars just because of the great nurses.

I was really disappointed in how Dr Kazmierowski and his associates handled my care. I was sensitized to a chemical and a few days later developed a horrible localized reaction with swelling and blistering. The information given to me clearly stated that a course of prednisone may be needed if this were to occur. The doctor on call refused to call in a prescription. It was after hours and the next day was a holiday so my only option was to go to the ED. I ended up with and expensive bill that AADA refused to cover any part of. Prednisone prescription: $2, ED visit: $250, Helpful/Competent Doctor on call: priceless

I was seeing Dr. Kazmierowski for seasonal allergies, and skin problems, and honestly despite the wait (which in the afternoons is never less than 45mins, more likely over an hour) I really felt the best going to their office downtown. I switched to another office for convenience sake, but honestly this spring i'm going back. they really do take the time to answer all of your questions, are very helpful and informational. the nurses are very friendly and gentle. I haven't found the same level of care elsewhere.

I have been a patient at Allergy Assoc. for about 8 years. Personally I think it?s all about the Staff. The Dr's are good but the Nurses are Great! Unfortunately you should expect to wait when you go. Don?t plan anything after your Dr appointment or you?ll be late. I always try to get the first appt of the day. I see John Kazmierowski who is great but you wait a LONG time. The nice part about that is they spend the right amount of time with you. If you need a procedure done they don?t make you come back, it gets done right then.

PROS: Very meticulous, they allow you to make the decisions in your own care.
CONS: Long waits sometimes hard to get an appointment with Dr Kazmierowski

I have been a patient of AADA for 24 years now. They specialize in allergies, dermatology, asthma and other lung ailments. Although the wait for my doctor can often be over an hour for middle of the day appointments I find the wait well worth it since I can have many specialist type issues addressed under one roof. I have seen my doctor for everthing from routine check ups for skin issues, allergies and lung ailments to acute urgent care lung issues and have always been happy with the staff and my doctor's care.

PROS: great care, nice staff
CONS: parking is limited during busy times of day
