Perhaps my review can help you determine whether you want to entrust your health to this office.

I was referred to Dr. Looney from a Vanderbilt doctor for my condition (femoroacetabular impingement created by retroverted femurs). From the start, things seemed to be going smoothly. But after some time, I came to a few conclusions about his office staff that I will list below:

(1) The day before my surgery (01/04/2012), Jake (Dr. Looney's nurse) called me to inform me I needed to come in for a ct scan. He asked me if anyone had informed me about this. No one had. He checked with my insurance per my request and called me back to inform me that my insurance was rejecting the codes they were submitting, therefore I would have to pay for the entire surgery out of pocket.

Imagine getting a call the day prior to your major surgery and being told that due to negligence of your doctor's office, you will have to pay for a $20k procedure all yourself. My insurance approved the claim that they made in 2011. The office would not do the surgery in 2011 because they were on vacation (Jake and one of the ladies in the office met and decided to graciously discount my bill after profusely apologizing ---but the outcome with an overnight stay in the hospital would have still been around $20k out of pocket for me).

(2) The nurse who facilitated my pre-op visit was extremely rude and unhelpful. She took a personal phone call. She stuttered through the majority of the appointment. She snapped at me when I asked her why we are not doing the particular surgery the doctor and I agreed upon. No one could answer my question seeing the doctor and his nurse were on vacation. I have had several surgeries in the past and have never been treated in such a rude way by a nurse.

(3) The office staff at large was slow in return my calls and overall unhelpful. There were a few people who were a blessing. Allison and Deitra in particular.

(4) After having to cancel the surgery (which was scheduled for 01/05/2012), I called Jake and asked him for another prescription on pain pills. I was not looking for pills to abuse and get high on. My condition has caused me immense pain, and I have been unable to function throughout the day without some kind of stronger pain reliever. In essence, Jake told me no. No, they would not give me any more pain reliever. I would have to go to another doctor for that.

This is my FIRST TIME EVER writing a negative review for any one. I don't mean to be overly critical. Perhaps this is their first dissatisfied patient. I read some reviews on Dr. Looney himself, and they were very good. I don't intend for my review to be a definitive evaluation of the doctor or necessarily all of his staff. There are some professional and respectable employees there. I hope that you do not have the same experience that I have had. You may not. I simply want to express how much grief and trouble this office as a whole has caused me in this difficult time and to inform prospective patients of what they may be facing. May God give you wisdom and grace in your situation.

*Also, never leave it up to a doctor's office to find out whether or not insurance is covering a procedure. Make the call yourself and make any and every inquiry you can think of.
