Dr. Cornwell is the best chiropractor I??ve ever been to, and that??s saying quite a bit! I had gone to 4 or 5 others in the Edmond/OKC area before finding him 5 years ago. His kind and caring personality are evident in the amount of time he spends with each patient, and his level of skill and knowledge of the human body are immediately obvious when you talk with him. At my first visit I filled out paperwork that covered my health history, and then he spent at least 30 minutes discussing my concerns and the areas in which I was having pain/tightness. Then he did several range of motion tests, examined me and evaluated not only my spine, but also my extremities and muscles. Some chiropractors seem to only focus on adjusting the spine, but Dr. Cornwell is also excellent at treating the hips, legs, feet, wrists?.everything! He also did x-rays to make sure it was safe to treat me.

He is a firm believer in ??soft tissue therapies??, which help the muscles to relax before he adjusts the joints. These therapies include ultrasound with or without electric stimulation, the roller table, and his marvelous massage chair (I can almost guarantee it??s the best one you??ve ever sat in!). His wonderful and fun assistant, Cara, will do one or more of these therapies, depending on the areas I tell them are bothering me. Then Dr. Cornwell stretches and massages the muscles for a few minutes before adjusting my spine and other joints. He then firmly but gently adjusts the joints. I have never found the adjustments to be painful, as they were with other doctors who didn??t take the time to relax the muscles first; on the contrary, the adjustment itself feels great and it??s awesome to know that everything is back in alignment where it should be.

After the adjustment, he uses an electric massager to increase blood flow to the muscles, and then he or Cara will hook me up to do some more electric stim therapy (interferential) ---this not only feels wonderful, but it also helps to the muscles to stay relaxed and not pull my joints back out of alignment. I get to lay in a dark room with nice music, a roll under my neck, and a warm blanket while doing interferential for 12 minutes or so. Dr. Cornwell also uses a cold laser during this time to increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and speed healing in the areas that had been the most painful before my adjustment. Overall, I??m usually there for an hour, and I always leave my treatments at Dr. Cornwell??s office feeling better than if I had gone to a spa or gotten a massage!

I also have to mention that Dr. Cornwell treated me during my entire pregnancy last year. We discontinued the electric therapies, but I still got to do the roller table (until week 15 when I wasn??t supposed to lay on my back for extended periods of time) and massage chair, and he somehow managed to adjust me even when my belly became huge! I had a lot of SI joint pain in my left hip, but I really believe it would have been worse without chiropractic care.

The most amazing thing, though, was that he successfully performed the Webster Technique on me. My baby girl had been breech from week 20 to week 35, and a c-section appeared imminent. Since I REALLY didn??t want to have a c-section, I did some research and then asked Dr. Cornwell if he could do the Webster Technique to try to get her to flip into a head-down position. He began doing it at week 35, and it consists of adjusting the hips in a specific way and then massaging the tendons and some pressure points on the stomach to help the muscles relax and to allow the baby more room to turn. My obstetrician said it wouldn??t hurt to try it, but he was very doubtful that anything would get the baby to flip in my case, since I have two uteri (uterine didelphys) and the baby didn??t have as much room as she would have in a normal uterus.

After 4 treatments over the course of a week and a half, though, I had another ultrasound and the obstetrician, my husband, and myself were astounded to find that our baby girl had turned into a head down position! I went on to have a fairly easy and totally uneventful vaginal delivery at 40 wks, 3 days. So not only do I think Dr. Cornwell is an excellent chiropractor, I believe I have him to thank for saving me from a c-section, as well!
