Pros: The medical staff is pretty good. The nurses are always pretty friendly and listen to what you are saying. Dr Rashid was a cold fish, but I think that was just his personality. He was a good doctor and a nice guy. Dr Block is very, very good. He has a great bedside manner and seems to genuinely care about his patients and their issues.

Cons: The front office staff, with a few exceptions, is not particularly friendly. Several times, I have walked in and I have gotten that "what do you want" look. If that happens once or maybe twice, you chalk it up to folks having a bad day. But it has happened more times than I can recallt. Front office staff needs to understand that they are dealing with people who are often not feeling well, have sick loved ones,or are rushing in from their busy lives to get help. Cracking a smile and making patients feel welcomed wouldn't hurt. Another issue I had was with the billing. They have a policy of charging you $50 for a missed physical. This year, I missed my physical from 6 weeks ago because I never received the usual reminder call . They claimed they had called me, but I didn't have any messages from them on my work or personal phone. Ultimately it is my responsibility to attend the appointment, I know, but when these appointments are made 6 months in advance, you often rely on your reminder call to help you remember. I explained that I never got a call, but it didn't matter. It didn't matter that I have been a patient there for several years and had never missed a prior appointment. The ONLY way I found out about the missed appointment was because I went in today on my day off to get my doctor to re-up my blood pressure meds. Initially I had wanted to get my annual physical done today, but I'd been told earlier in the week that I couldn't because the doctor's docket was full (fair enough) and that I'd only be able to schedule a regular (non physical) appointment. However, when I had called to make the appointment earlier in the week, the person never took the initiative to say "Sorry sir, we cant get you in for a physical this week because the doctor's schedule is full, but we can make time for a regular appointment. BY THE WAY, did you know that you actually had a physical scheduled several weeks ago that you missed?" Me attempting to schedule the physical a few days ago never tipped these people off that I had no idea that I had missed the appointment from a few weeks ago. This information would have been good to know prior to today when I walked in to my appointment and found out about the additional $50 charge. There was also never any follow up after that initial missed appointment. Of course they can't prove that they actually called me, but what could I do? I'm not about to have them mess up my credit report over a $50 charge. In summation, the medical people over there will treat you well. The ones I have dealt with were good. On the other hand, the office staff acts like the people you deal with at the phone company or cable company. Watch out for them and you should be okay.

I have been going to the family practive for over 8 years with only positive experiences. The doctors have changed in the last year because they went to WakeMed and Duke. Two doctors referred to negatively in other reviews are no longer there. I saw both with only positive experiences. Now I am seeing Dr. Block who I like as both a diagnostic specialist and for his diligent patient followup. As for charging patients who do not show up for appointments, those people need to understand that they have a responsibility to call to cancel. There time is valuable.

I just want everyone to know that this is the worst doctor office in North Carolina. The doctors at this office kept making my husband feel like he was dying. They made him take several test and we paid several of dollars because they had him think he had a heart condition. I decided to schedule him an appointment with another doctor's office because I was tired of seeing my husband scared sad and depressed. Come to find out this dr's office was only concerned with our money, not my husband or his health. Thank God, he is fine!

I have gone to this Clinic several times over the last two years and have seen both Dr. Oui and Dr. Rashid and have nothing but praise for both these wonderful doctors. I felt like they were actually listening to me. I've had back pain on and off for several years and have gone to the emergency room as well as other clinics when I was in pain, generally my back was xrayed and finding nothing I was given pain pills and sent on my merry way. However, this past year I once again found myself in pain, I had been going to Dr. Oui for a year, but she was out of the office the day I called. First the receptionist made room for me the very day I called and I saw Dr. Rashid. Over the course of two weeks Dr. Rashid ordered test and stayed in contact with me personally until, after ordering an MRI, I was finally given a diagnosis and thus peace of mind! My only regret is not having been to this clinic earlier, I have Degenerative Disc Disease, and had I been under the care of Doctors such as these in the past my spine would never have degreased to the state it's in now.
If you're tired of being given the run around and want answers this is the place!

Dr. Rashid - E Brooks Wilkins Family Med. - Dr. Rashid was the absolute worst Dr. I have ever seen in my life. Do not see him, unless you are desperate, which I was. He was rude, condescending, apathetic, and flippant. Not sure if he is irritated with women in general, but you should never feel shamed when going to a Dr. for help. Avoid him at all costs.

Great experience! Dr. Oei is kind ,compassionate and professional. Only negative: a prescription called in costs $25, ($0 if given at appt) Thorough, can get appt usually the same day. When I need to cancel in less than an hour, I was not billed because I rescheduled.

I was referred here by an associate for my 40 year check up and to get help to quit smoking. The initial physical and prescription went fine. The doctor (Dr. Schroff) wanted a follow up appointment even though everything looked fine. Now I see that the follow up was simply to be able to charge an additional co-pay, when I inquired about this I was told that each visit was billable. I wasn't too upset, that seemed normal, I just figured I would pay more attention to the process next time. Well, the smoking cessation prescription worked for me, I quit smoking for about a month but relapsed, so in May I contacted the office to inquire about a new prescription but of course, I was required to schedule another appointment. This appointment took almost an hour and a half, 45 minutes in waiting room, 45 minutes in patient room all for Dr. Schroff to just listen my heart and lungs, write the prescription and tell me he'd like ANOTHER follow-up in June! Well they scheduled the follow-up for June 10th, called me June 9th for a reminder, at which time I cancelled due to a conflict with my kids schedule, yet today, June 13th, I received an UNSIGNED receipt for a charge to our FSA Mastercard for $109.41 as co-pay for an appointment that should have been cancelled!!! I will be calling my insurance provider first thing Monday morning to inform them of this practice and refuse the charge, and I will NOT be returning to E Brooks again!! I would suggest if you are looking for a family doctor, you look elsewhere because E Brooks' only concern is their practices financial health, not your physical health!!!

I was referred to Dr. Brooks Wilkins for my diabetes. Being an adult with the diagnosis of diabetes the fear and questions were pressing. However, after an hour with Mrs. Darlene Wilkins (wife of Dr. Wilkins, Registered Nurse "AND" a diabetic herself) she gave me a perspective of a diabetes FROM A diabetic, as opposed to something she had seen in a book or heard at a conference. She did not sugar coat my diagnosis, but she told and showed me (through her own life) that diabetes is a manageable disease. Dr. Wilkins and Mrs. Wilkins are VERY thorough and complete with their treatment of diabetes and it is a TOTAL life treatment and not just "let's throw some medication at this thing and see what we can get."
Barring being treated by an endocrinologist,(and even then, I am not sure you will do better in the "treatment," aspect of diabetes) I don't think a person suffering from diabetes will find a more dedicated and caring team than that of Dr. and Mrs. Wilkins.

As a physician myself, married to another physician, I am very, very picky about doctors. Dr. Monica Oei at this practice exceeds all of my expectations. Her knowledge and medical decision-making are top-notch, but even more importantly (from my point of view, especially as I have been very ill recently), she is compassionate, considerate, kind, and treats patients and family members with respect. In contrast to many other physician encounters I have had in the past year, my visits with Dr. Oei are unhurried; she takes time to listen carefully, asks thoughtful questions, does an appropriately complete exam, and formulates a plan. She then takes time to discuss the plan with me and answer my questions. Dr. Oei is a gem- if you value "real" medicine, as opposed to rushed, 5 minute encounters where you're shouting questions as the doctor flees down the hall at the end of the visit, see Dr. Oei. She really cares, and it shows. Add that to her excellent training and knowledge and you will see why I am so lucky she is my physician!

As a sixty year old, I have seen many doctors in my life. The doctors at Wilkin's Family Medicine are great diagnosticians and take the time with each patient to thoroughly assess their physical and emotional needs -- what I call "having a heart." I may wait on occasion beyond my scheduled appointment time, but I know it is always because they are spending the time necessary to help the previous patients. I have gotten the best possible advice and help from these doctors.

Last appt. for 11am got there @ 10:45 was seen by a doc @ noon! No real apology from anyone, the doc really rushed the appt. as I was fasting and still had not gone for the bloodwork...
Nurses are generally rude, don't call at 4:55 on a holiday weekend you will get no answer.
The nurse called today re: a call in rx, wanted to know what pharmacy I use and their phone number, let's see I don' t have that # and she said I don't either, I took 30 seconds to look it up on the internet...for them.
The docs are generally ok, they love to test you for everything if you have one particular problem, the folks in the waiting room always seem frustrated and never happy-clients and staff.

I very much recommend this practice. I've only seen Dr. Rashid and he is professional and very thorough. The nurses are really nice and have excellent "bedside manner".

Dr. Wilkins will charge you a $25 fee if you cancel your appointment the day of, or if you don't show. My child was sick so I made an appointment at 9:30 that morning. An hour later I called and cancelled her appointment that was scheduled for the afternoon since I decided to take her to Urgent Care instead (she got worse). They billed me $25 since I cancelled the appointment (then same day I made it, mind you). I called to disbute it and she told me I should have known when I made the appointment. No one told me that would be the case when I cancelled. The staff isn't very friendly. I wouldn't recommend this "family doctor." STAY AWAY!

I have seen three doctors in this office and have felt confident and comfortable with all three of them. Each has a different approach to their medical practice, but they take the time to get to know a patient and really listen to what they are saying.
