The incident happened 4/24/09. I had been to Dr. Shah's office once prior to the visit when the incident happened. Dr. Shah was examining my sinus area for a cyst found in a prior test. To do this test, Dr. Shah sprayed Lidocaine in each nostril to numb the area in order to stick a scope in my sinuses to examine the area. After the test was finished, I told Dr. Shah I didn??t feel well and that I was dizzy. He quickly explained the test feels unusual and not to worry and to just bring my MRI results to the check-out desk. I got up, walked to the check out desk and next thing I knew, I was laying on the floor, surrounded by doctors. I had a reaction to the Lidocaine being sprayed in my nose. From passing out in his office after I told him I did not feel well, in which he just told me to bring my results to the check-out desk, so he could bring the next patient in, I later found out it was much worse than just a fall. I found out from other patients in the office that my belongings flew across the room as I passed out and his staff was laughing and said I fell like a domino.
Immediately after I passed out, Dr. Shah had his office manager walk me to the nearby radiology office. I am not large at all, but, to trust a small woman, to hold a grown man who just passed out and who should have not been picked up and is incoherent is pure stupidity and the last thing I would expect a doctor to do, who chose the profession to treat people and make them better. At the nearby radiology office, they found out I fracture my skull and saw my brain was bleeding. After vomiting at the radiologist and still being incoherent, the office finally got me a wheel chair to wheel me back to Dr. Shah??s office. At this point, my mother arrived at the office where she was fighting with the staff and Dr. Shah on why they still had not called an ambulance yet, even after they found out my skull was fractured and brain was bleeding. Dr. Shah said calling an ambulance was unnecessary and I could just be driven over. After over an hour of the incident happening, an ambulance was called from my mother??s persistence and my uncle, a local cop arriving.
I was brought to the local hospital where my head was scanned again and more bleeding was found for a total of a skulled fracture and three bleeds on my brain. Dr. Shah arrived at the hospital where he said we had NOTHING to worry about and he would take care of all of the expenses. I was in the hospital for three days with multiple tests. After many visits from Dr. Shah when at the hospital, assuring me that I wouldn??t pay for a thing, he became very defensive when the bills came to the point of needing to be paid. I am sure the few thousand dollars I incurred in bills at the hospital are a small amount to him, but I believe, he realized that if he paid the bills, he was afraid it would admit him to fault. His liability insurance contacted me about the incident, referring to it as ??a slip and fall? accident. I made them aware of what actually happened, which then lead them to deny the claim and said I would have to go after his malpractice insurance.
I have visited many cognitive therapists in order to see my progress, all have said it takes years to see change and damage could be permanent. Besides the monetary loss of what I went through, I was in graduate school at the time. The incident happened two weeks before final exams. If anyone knows anything about head injury, some of the main problems a person could have, which I experienced, were memory loss and severe headaches which take a very long time to heal, never knowing if you will be 100% the same again. School was very tough from that point on, never having the problems that I had after the incident happened. It has been a long road to recovery and it is very hard to trust a doctor again. Please really think before using this doctor. He put me through hell and lied about everything to just cover himself not to get sued. The worst experience of my life occurred at his office.

I went to Dr. Shah for a tonsilectomy when i was in my early twenties. After two decades of strep throat and chronic tonsillitis, he advised that i get my tonsils out, and i am so happy that i did. He is the kindest doctor i have ever been to, and the surgery was flawless. I highly recommend him
