After years of insomnia, day-time sleepiness and a minor accident while driving I went to see Dr. Duhon. He is very easy to talk with and spent a long time listening and answering questions on each visit. I got medication that works reasonably well for what has turned out to be narcolepsy.
I was less happy with the two sleep studies I had. The facility is part of his suite of offices. The bedrooms are private and pretty comfortable, but each experience was somewhat disappointing. I was told before the first that I could read or watch TV when I couldn't sleep. The tech assigned to me had other instructions: I was to lie still in the dark and try to sleep so she could get data. I eventually get very restless most nights and cannot stay in bed - feel I simply MUST get up - part of the problem! The staff follows established protocols and my particular pattern of sleeplessness and need to move around was problematic. They called Dr.Duhon at dawn for instructions. I was confused with another patient and told to pack up and go home before 7 am, when I'd expecting to stay until 3 pm. The dismissal by the tech was abrupt ("You can go home now."), with no explanation or concern for my feelings (of failure) after my high hopes for relief and an uncomfortable essentially sleepless night with a head full of goop and electrodes during which I merely presented the problem as it really was. Dr. Duhon was later honest with me regarding the confusion, which I appreciated. On the second occasion the tech didn't know I'd arrived and been sent to a bedroom and found me by accident, un- "prepped" after almost an hour of waiting. The sleep studies did uncover a problem, despite the difficulties.
