I am 43 years old and have NEVER...EVER...been treated so rudely by a medical professional in my entire life!

I went in for a routine eye exam with the intention of refilling my contact lens prescription. During the exam the technician examining me asked what I use to clean my contacts. I typically use store-bought enzyme tablets; I also occasionally (2-3x a year) use baking soda and contact solution if I'm out. I learned this remedy from a eye doctor whom I used for more than 10 years in a prior life.

Before I could even finish my answer, the technician became completely unhinged over my using baking soda. I couldn't even mention the enzyme tablets because she was in so much disbelief at my obvious stupidity. She harshly chided me no less than 5 SEPARATE TIMES in less than one hour. She literally lectured me in a tone that half their office must have heard, because every single employee who passed my exam room simply stared as they went by.

I would have walked out but this is the only exam my vision insurance will pay for. Then Dr. Meltzer himself came in. He proceeded to tell me the drawbacks of using baking soda; that would have been fine except for the comment that the lecture from his assistant was me "paying the price for my erroneous ways." I assume he was trying to be funny; by then I was so livid that I really didn't care.

I was then given a pair of temporary contacts and told to wear them for 2 week and call back for a permanent fitting once they had settled. Needless to say, it's been more than a week and I'm still furious about how I was treated. I have ZERO intention of EVER returning to this office.

I essentially wasted my entire year's vision insurance on this single visit, but will gladly pay out/pocket at another eye doctor if it means I never have to go back there. I saw Dr. Meltzer 1-2 times a year for the past 4 years. He is somewhat gruff but has always fitted me correctly. But that's all water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

Seriously...you didn't REALLY expect to keep me as a patient, did you? Not after treating me in that fashion. Well guess what...this YOUR "punishment" for your employee's rudeness. Goodbye and good riddance.

Dr. Meltzer allowed me to see again! I had been struggling with vision problems and new prescriptions and lens that weren't helping. I made the rounds to 3-4 other local dr's of "high reknown" when the eldest of them told me I needed to see Dr. Meltzer- that he'd established his own lab to make lens esp. for those with difficult prescriptions. Truer words were never spoken. I was first worked up by his Ophth. Tech who was Perfect! Then, Dr.Meltzer saw me and he nailed my Rx problem in short order, explaining why I was having problems. They custom make lenses to fit the modern frames and he gave the optician the directions while I was sitting there to be fitted for new glasses. The whole experience was marvelous and 3 weeks later I had new computer work glasses and fancy new trifocals- I couldn't have been happier- this whole past year has been wonderful thanks to Dr. Meltzer! Before I met him, I thought I'd have to go out on disability!

I have been seeing Dr. Meltzer for over a decade now and would not consider going anywhere else. He and his staff are very professional. Most importantly, we go there for his expertise, which is top drawer.

Dr Meltzer is wonderfully kind, down to earth, there for you in a crisis, and extremely well qualified. I have been going to him for 15 years and wouldn't think of going to anyone else. He doesn't have an outgoing personality; he's more of a science-guy type. I'm OK with that. He is a very compassionate doctor.

My husband and I have both seen Dr. Meltzer several times over the years. I find him to be an excellent doctor. I find his staff to be efficient and the optical people are both efficient and helpful when choosing frames. I don't know why others would write such bad reviews unless they are expecting a social event instead of a medical appointment. When I go my doctors I expect them to be competent and hopefully have an efficient staff. Dr. Meltzer meets this expectation.

I was relieved that a couple of other people shared my disappointment with this facility. I gave this doctor and his staff 2 chances to improve their customer service skills after my first visit, but they didn't. They are very cold and unfriendly....bordering rude. I will take my business elsewhere. What a shame.

Dr. Meltzer is a very thorough, old school professional, but not very talkative and really stingy with sharing medical information with the patient. If you don't know what to ask, you will never have any idea how your condition is.
The staff in his office is bordering rudeness, to say the least. There is one nurse who constantly rolles her eyes and acts like you are the last thing on the earth she wants to be bothered with.
I could not see with my brand new contacts and, when I went back to see what it can be done, it took me about 30 minutes to convince them that I can not see with them. They finally accepted to check on them and after realizing I was right, I was told they would have to be sent the contacts back to the lab "for a few changes". I asked what kind of changes and the answer was prompt: " Ma'am, I told you everything I could. For any native english speaker, that would be unerstood!". I replied that I am aware I have an accent, but my english is as good as everybody else's and I insisted on finding out what kind of changes had to be done to my contacts. The nurse rolled her eyes and left the room without answering.
I talked to the manager, Larry, who was always very polite and respectuous. He agreed to refund my money and apologized for the nurse's attitude.
This type of encounter was familiar to me, since it was not the first time I was treated with lack of consideration.
After this last unpleasant experience, I decided to look for another doctor.

This was the most AWFUL eye doctor experience I have EVER had! Upon entering the office the technician who began my eye exam not only rolled her eyes at me when I told her I was wearing my contacts to the exam, but gave me attitude because I had not brought any of my eye exam records. The office had never told my husband and I to bring any history/records from past eye exams. She then proceeded to ask about a surgery I had recieved almost 10 years ago and when I could not remember the MD's name she huffed at me as if I was stupid. I even tried to call her out on her rudeness and asked if she was having a bad day and she stated no and asked why. I answered back that she was not being nice to me and she just went back to her work without apologizing. I was so agitated with her I got up to get my husband to sit in on the exam and the technician said, "oh I didn't know you needed your husband for support." And when we explained all this to the doctor he merely said there was nothing he could do about it and left. I never got a full eye exam nor did I recieve a presciption for glasses or contacts. His office told me to return another day when I was not wearing my contacts. I have NEVER had an issue wearing my contacts in the past. I usually take them out, have my eye exam, and put them back in when I leave. I found the female technician and the doctor both rude and inconsiderate to patient care. I work as a nurse and I would never treat my patients as horrible as I was treated that day.

I was told that Dr. Meltzer was a bit gruff, but I found him to be quite pleasant. He did a very thorough exam. His assistant showed me how to put in my contacts with greatest of care. When I decided that I did indeed want to wear them, his office sent a copy of my script. No big deal, huh? Every other doc's office told me they would have to charge me $25 or more for a copy! I asked about that at Dr. Meltzer's office and was told there is no difference in the exams for glasses vs. contacts, and as such they didn't charge their patients twice for the same exam!
That's quite refreshing!

PROS: Fair practices
CONS:
