WOW, I'm absolutely baffled by some of the reviews I just read on Deb. I jumped on here to write a quick review about how wonderful Deb is and saw some of the negatives - everyone has their opinions I guess but please note that we can not and should not base everything on how others feel. I've gone thru 3 pregnancies with Deb - I couldn't have asked for a better person to walk me through each experience. Her guidance, warmth and caring ways got me through some difficult times. She shared in the joys I had as well. As a matter of face - I ended up having 3 c-sections - first one emergency, 2nd one unplanned c-section and 3rd one planned and on time - Deb WAS THERE FOR MY 3RD C-section. She held my hand and comforted me the entire time. She was NOT PAID for that - she was there because she knew this was going to be our last one and becuase she wasn't able to deliver my babies for me she wanted to be there to support me with my 3rd baby. I jumped on here to write a review about a recent interaction with Deb. I've been having some issues that are unknown at this point. She's been chatting with me to figure out the best plan for me. She's offered advice and listed to my gut instincts. She is so kind and so wonderful with her time she was even able to help me get in to see someone last minute. Deb goes above and beyond - you do need to remember she is human, she has a life and although we all like to think our doctors are super heros, there are lines she needs to draw. Just because you didn't get a card or didn't get a phone call after a delivery doesn't mean Deb wasn't think of you. It probably meant she was holding someone elses hand just like she did for you when you first found out you were pregnant etc. Why do people have to be so judgemental. Think of all the great things she did for you - they probably far out weigh the little things you are complaining about. We all have bad days too - did you ever think of that? In any case, Deb is wonderful, hence why I wanted to take the time to write praise her and all she does. For those who are reading into the negative reviews - remember - it doesn't matter how great a person you are - there is always someone out there to tell you you're not that great. I say check Deb out for yourself - you have really nothing to loose - if it's your first pregnancy I'd encourage you to see several doctors/midwifes and compare and pick based on your own judgement - not someone elses! :) Deb, you're a rockstar in my book - I never dreamt I'd get on here to see some of the ridiculous reviews.

Deb was my midwife with both my pregnancies. I noticed a big difference between when I worked with her with my daughter in 2007-2008 and most recently with the birth of my son in Nov 2013. In my previous pregnancy I didn't feel rushed and I felt she cared about me and took the time to listen to my concerns. She even sent a short postcard to me several days after I delivered (she wasn't on call for my delivery) congratulating me and letting me know how proud she was of me for my hard work in the labor/delivery of my child. This meant a lot to me. This last pregnancy I often felt like Deb was rushed and didn't want to stay in the room long enough to check how I was doing. She again wasn't on call and didn't make my delivery (I understand this and was fine). I wasn't expecting a note again but a quick call to check in would have been nice. I went with a midwife because I was under the false impression that they had more time to spend with patients and cared about the whole patient. This was not my experience. If you want to work with Diamond Women's Center I recommend Dr. Angelats, Dr. Sanow, or Dr. Chow. I saw all of them several times and they spent as much time as was needed with me and I felt they genuinely cared how I was doing. Maybe that is too much to ask of a medical provider, but I would rather have the impression that someone cares about me than the opposite. I'm willing to give Deb the benefit of the doubt that maybe she is being pushed to take on too many clients and just can't give the care she used to. That said, I would not recommend Deb to my friends or family.

I see Deb on an annual basis, sometimes more, for basic GYN care. She is the most knowledgeable and caring medical person that I've ever worked with. She understands that health is about more than what shows up on your lab results. She really listens to you. There was one situation where she recommended an over the counter medication for a certain condition and I told her firmly that they didn't work for me. We went back and forth but only a little -- she could tell by the look in my eyes that it was the truth; first she made a recommendation, gathered more information, and ultimately she trusted me to know my own body and what it needs. I truly appreciate all of that and I would recommend her to anyone. And yes I am a real patient.

To: Think Twice and Think Twice Indeed

I had an extremely similar experience to what you both described about a year ago with Deb. She needs to retire or quit before doing any more damage to young women. One thing to note is please don't let this woman be your representative for midwifery in general. After seeing her, I switched to a team of midwives who did an excellent job giving me the advice and support I was looking for.

Also, this woman writes her own reviews. Notice how the 5 reviews between yours are only a few days apart, each stating about the same thing. There is no way these 5 women gave birth at the same time and all decided to write reviews on Deb :)

I expressed from the beginning of my appt w/Deb that I was still in shock about the pregnancy test I'd taken & was there to figure how far along I was. I've relied on & received, a Medical Opinion from this office in the past. I've never been afraid, intimidated, or felt alone in ANY of my experiences before this day with ANY other member of this clinic. I was Not there to feel the any presence of personal opinion(s)-view(s)-judgement(s)-or any other opinion(s) other than Strictly a Medical Opinion/Diagnosis. I spent a good 4+ hrs there that day, my urine sample was discarded while I was meeting w/Deb, & was instructed to leave another @ if I was able to 'go again' &was given an ultra-sound (revealing no absolute evidence of a pregnancy but showed a 'thick uterine lining' & no right ovary). I explained to her that I had JUST taken a pregnancy test w/+ results & was unsure of what to do. I was there to determine the length of the pregnancy, I told her, I didn't know what to do, & was frightened. As she asked more questions, (i.e. where I wanted to have my baby) I re-instated I hadn't even thought about it & just found out I was pregnant w/no idea what to do. She said, ??Well we'll just say Abbott,?, I said, again, I had just learned this information & didn't know what to do. She replied, ??You're not thinking of terminating this pregnancy are you!?? The tone of the question was NOT received as pleasant, in the slightest. @ that point I began bawling, re-instating this was a SHOCK to me. This was followed by Deb Stealey saying, ??Well, we're going to help you make this decision.?
I told her again I was at a Doc's office to obtain a MEDICAL OPINION-After an ultrasound (revealing no baby), she requested tests be done day-after-next, to be sure there weren't early complications. I made my appt, &attended 6/22/11. I left the clinic feeling alone-sad-judged & even more confused than I did when I walked through the doors. I arrived w/expectations of a medical opinions, & medical answers/responses, to my Medical questions, but I left ridden w/feelings of what I felt were someone's own personal opinions. Deb, was cold, judgemental, un-empathetic, unsympathetic, & lacked bedside manner. I will not be returning to Diamond Women's Center after years of positive experiences. During one of the lonliest & most difficult times of my life, all I wanted was a medical opinion and that, is what I deserved, it is my right as a patient. As a patient of Diamond Women's Center, or any other medical facility in Minnesota, I am entitled to a medical opinion, and ALL other opinions, inflections, beliefs, judgments, etc. should be left at the door before staff member enters a medical facility (as long as it coincides with the law). I left the office w/o answers. I recieved continuing calls and voicemails left from outside-the-office/or from Private/Blocked #s, during abnormal hours of operation w/o any pressing, life threatening, or time pressing matters (i.e. life threatening issues, or checking my chart before the phone calls were made to see if I arrived for & went through with the follow-up appointment in question Deb Stealey suggested, which I DID).

My experiences with Deb have been nothing but exceptional. She has guided me and my whole family through two pregnancies with complete professionalism and compassion. She has often gone above and beyond the call of duty - making me and my family feel very well cared for and in wonderful hands with the births of our children. She is such an asset to Diamond Women Center and we are so thankful that we have had the opportunity to work with her. I will continue to drive the extra distance it takes me to see her because she is such a wonderful practitioner.

I simply cannot say enough great things about CNM Debra Stealey. She's truly one-of-a-kind... the kindest health care professional I have ever encountered. She takes time for you, she listens, and she cares. She not only cares about you as a patient, but you as a PERSON, and cares about the well-being of your entire family. I have been a patient of CNM Debra Stealey for over 8 years and I have always been impressed by her outstanding level of care and her kind, caring demeanor. She gives 150% in all that she does. Through the birth of my son and through some other medical issues I have encountered, she has treated me with respect, kindess and with the utmost professional care. I cannot thank her enough for always being a healthcare professional that I can count on and trust. Keep up the excellent work, Debra- you are a treasure.

I (we) love Deb! I am a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and was referred to Deb by her colleague several years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. We followed her to Diamond's Women's, and she is amazing. She was a part of our journey for all of my 3 pregnancies. She is very professional, genuine, available and an advocate for her patients. My first delivery lasted about 18 hrs & my 3rd was 11 hours. She was there with us most of the time and followed up with us after. The birth experiences involving Deb were completely different than the birth of our second without her. (events out of her control) I still she her yearly and my life is richer for it!

I couldn't be happier with the care that Debra Stealey provides at Diamond Womens Center. She truly cares about her paitents & takes the time to understand & explain any/all concerns you may have. With my first pregnancy, Debra took the time to get to know not just me but my husband too! She is a great healthcare provider in all the phases in a woman's life. Debra delivered our 2 children & supported us through 2 loses. I could go on & on about how great Debra is... I HIGHLY recommend Debra (and have!) for the BEST care- you will not be dissapointed!

I cannot say enough good things about Debra Stealey, certified nurse midwife at Diamond Women's Center in Edina. As first-time parents who had a very difficult pregnancy, which ultimately resulted in delivery of our baby nine weeks premature, Debra had our backs from the beginning. In our early appointments Debra took time to get to know us as a couple, made sure we were taking care of ourselves and each other both physically and emotionally, and of course took the utmost care for myself and our baby. She respected and supported our desire for a natural pregnancy. This is everything I was looking for in a midwife. Debra never treated me like I was "just another patient" and instead, provided the highest-quality and personal attention that I have ever received from a medical professional, hands down.

When I went on bedrest at 18 weeks into my pregnancy, Debra was a very important part of my support system. Even though my care was transferred to the high-risk doctors in the hospital, Debra, as well as all of the doctors at Diamond Women's Center, saw to it that I was getting the best possible care. They checked in on me daily and let me know they were there for me. Debra would visit my hospital room (even on her days off!). I will never forget the day she visited -- I was feeling tired and emotionally spent from laying in bed for 10+ weeks -- and she brought me a card (one of many) and a warm washcloth for my face. It was these kinds of "extras" that made my 13 weeks in the hospital bearable.

Following the birth of my daughter, Debra took the time to visit her in the NICU and stayed up-to-date on her care -- and of course mine -- while she was in the hospital for 10 weeks. I continue to see Debra Stealey for my routine exams and hope to be under her care for my next pregnancy. I can't imagine anyone else as my midwife. She's honest, caring and smart. No matter what, she will see to it that you are getting the best care for yourself and your baby, even if it means transferring your care to someone else. I believe that Debra is a midwife because she loves caring for people. She just gives off a warm fuzzy feeling and I feel proud and honored to have her on my side.

I decided to see Deb Stealey a week ago, after reading a few positive reviews, and wanted to write my own review to save other future moms from an extremely unpleasant experience. This woman is fake, nosy and judgmental. My appointment lasted a total of 10 minutes, every one of which she spent bombarding me with extremely personal (non-obgyn related) questions. When I asked for concrete medical answers vs. the emotional gibberish that she was providing, I was confronted by rude, defensive responses. I was nicer to her than I should have been, and left not having a clue how she was employed anywhere...let along Diamond Women's Center. Not for a second did I feel like this woman cared the slightest bit about me or my future baby. I thought that a midwife as opposed to a an obgyn sounded like a good idea, since I want my birth to be as natural as possible, however, Deb's unbelievable unprofessionalism and lack of basic medical knowledge made me think twice.
