I didn't like the idea of going to see a psychiatrist, but I listened to my sister and went and I??m happy I refrained from being stubborn. Dr. Denise has helped me change little things about my life slowly. We discovered that I suffer from depression and I opted for low dose medication. I??m happy I listened to my sister.

My daughter had tried to commit suicide three times in the past year. All three attempts were unsuccessful, thank god, however during her most recent try, we called the police and they took her to the mental ward at the local hospital.

We were lost, her therapist did not know what to do with her. Eventually she recommended psychiatry and thus we were introduced to Dr. Barnard.

Today, my daughter is on medication and sees her therapist as well as Dr. Barnard once a week, but she is still here, with us, and that is the most important.

My son was experiencing suffering from sever anxiety disorder and therapy was clearly not working for him. We were referred to Dr. Denise Barnard by our Psychologist, who claimed that Dr. Bernard was very accurate in terms of diagnosing patients, and very knowledgeable in her field. Dr. Barnard was a pleasure to work with. Her kind nature immediately put my anxious son at ease, and caused him to open up and describe his inner feelings.

By his descriptions of his cognitions, and attitude through the course of the session, Dr. Barnard accurately diagnosed him with Severe Anxiety Disorder. She saw signs that therapists were not knowledgeable enough to recognize, and diagnosed my son. She prescribed him with SSRI. She started him with a small dose, in order to monitor the medicine??s affect on him. She booked us for another session, and monitored his progress. She upped the dosage, recognizing that the initial one was not enough.

Dr. Barnard was very patient with my son, and very kind to both of us. She was very organized in terms of creating my sons?? evaluation. She was also very eloquent and explanatory when explaining to me his syndrome. My son has overcome his disorder, and learned to handle it positively. Dr. Barnard helped him tremendously, and I am forever thankful for that.

"Dr. Denise Barnard is an excellent Psychiatrist. I suffered a great loss and it resulted in my great loss of sleep, and lack of motivation in my work. I began to resent the things that once brought me happiness and I was in a very dark place. My friends and family sensed my detachment, but I was really good at putting on a ??happy act?? when I was around them.

In one session with Dr. Barnard she was able to uncover my deepest feelings. Her kind nature made me feel comfortable to tell her about the horrible things I have done. She recognized that my thought process was very unhealthy, and referred me to a psychologist. She recognized that my symptoms did not suggest an Axis 1 disorder, and so I would not need medication.

Since my session with Dr. Barnard, I have been getting my life on track. Working with the therapist she suggested, I am channelling my negative thoughts into positive ones. I am grateful that she did not resort to prescribing me with medication, and thus ??put a band aid?? on my problem. Dr. Barnard is a very knowledgeable psychiatrist, who knows exactly what she is doing. She is very easy to talk to, and she got me in touch with my existing therapist.

My daughter, now turning 13, suffers from anorexia. At least, we thought she did. She always said she was not hungry, and we caught her lying about meals she claimed to have eaten. She lost a tremendous amount of weight, and it became scary to look at her. She always had this look in her eyes, as if she was thinking about something very dark.

We were referred to Dr. Barnard by my daughter??s psychologist, who claimed that Psychiatry was our only option. Dr. Barnard assessed my daughter, and diagnosed her with depression. It was her depression that caused her anorexia, and by treating the former the latter would get better. Dr. Barnard was very careful to prescribe my daughter with the right medication, for she chose one that would induce, not hinder, her appetite. She also suggested that we continue to work with a Psychologist, for medication alone will not solve the problem.

Ever since we saw Dr. Barnard my daughter Brittany is doing much better. She is finally smiling naturally, and participating in school activities. She learned to challenge her energy into art, and has since created beautiful art pieces. I am so thankful to Dr. Barnard for correctly diagnosing Brittany. It is thanks to her that Brittany both feels and looks wonderful.

During my first and only visit to Orlando Behavioral Health Care I was provided with 2 medications by one of the doctors in the Maitland office. Besides for the 1 1/2 hour wait time everything seemed to be going well, that was until I filled my prescription at my local Pharmacy. My pharmacy provided me with an generic brand of a drug I have been taking for 3 years, for 3 years the Va has been my provider. I guess the only way to described the next events are pure hell! I went through withdraws, cold sweats and could not sleep all night. During this time I contacted my pharmacy and was informed that the generic brand I was given was all the pharmacy had in stock. So my pharmacy told me my best bet was to stop using the drug and contact my doctor at Orlando Behavioral Health Care because she had given me no refills and ask for a new script. Since it was 12 am, I had to wait till the morning to call.

The following day I contacted another pharmacy to get their info and to make sure this generic brand of medicine was not used by them. I was then told by the pharmacist that they do not use this brand due to complaints and just have my doctor call them and setup a new script. I then contacted Orlando Behavioral Health Care around 9:00 am and left an detailed message for my doctor with who I was told was an office supervisor. After being sick and going through withdraw symptoms for the next 7 and a half hours, I called Orlando Behavioral Health Care back and asked what was going on. The first person I spoke with told me she would send my doctor another message and that she was unaware of how long that would take. After hearing this I asked her did she know for sure if my doctor would call me back, Her response was that it was up to the doctor to call me back and she could not guarantee my doctor would call back. After hearing this I made sure she knew what I was going through and that I really needed help, at that time she passed the phone over to another co worker, It ended up being the same supervisor from my first call. She then began to tell me she would do her best to get me an answer very soon. At that time I voiced my concerns with what the prior office staff member said and told her how she said it was up to the doctor to call me back by the end of business and I was very concerned with that knowledge. The supervisor preceded to call the co worker over and asked her if my statement was true, the office worker said I never told him that and I was told quickly by the supervisor they would do everything they could do and then I was hung up on.

I received a call back telling me my doctor would not send in a new script, I asked to speak with an owner or someone in charge and Denise was that person

The first words out of my mouth to Denise were that I was a Military Veteran and Combat Veteran and I told her from start to finish what had happened. After hearing what I was going through Denise Barnard told me she was going to pull my chart and see the doctors notes. She then asked me for the number to my previous doctor I had seen in Orlando for check up's, I then gave her the number. I then asked her why she would need his number, her answer was that She and my doctor wanted to make sure I was not getting scripts from him at the same time and just wanting more refills. After her basically calling me a junkie the conversation went south. I then asked her if she was calling me a junkie and her response was to tell me they had to make sure I was not getting a script from this other doctor and also from my interview with my doctor they had their concerns. I told her the only concerns they should have is how sick I am and that I would gladly turn in my generic prescription to them or the pharmacy. I then told her I was so sick I needed some help and that my only choice was to go to the hospital is they were unwilling to help. I also told her it was my doctors responsibly to make sure her patient was taken care of and that if I had to go to the Hospital I would send her a bill. After that she turned very rude and told me she did not have to do anything for me and my doctor did not have to provide me with any help also. Denise then told me it was not their fault I was having the reaction I was having and Denise said she even looked up the drug I was taking and she had no concerns. Denise then Informed me that my mother had called the office and called everyone an SOB, which is very out of character for my mother who is a god loving person ( I contacted my mother later and she told me she called and asked why they were not helping and she was hung up on) . Denise told me that me and my mom could basically F ourselves and that nobody will talk to her girls like that. I then informed Denise that I would send her office my medical bill and contact the medical board and anyone I could find to tell my story to. Denise said have a nice day and hung up. Treating a patient and Military Veteran like this is very wrong

While I was very happy when my baby was born, I felt that I was in this very dark place. Even though I brought joy into the world, I couldn??t help but cry tears of sadness. I felt very alone and shut out my husband and two kids. I was referred to Dr. Denise Barnard by my Physician, who said that my mood was a lot more than just a phase.

Dr. Barnard spent a lot of time with me, and was very kind from the start. She was on time, and I really liked the decor of her office. She, and her environment, yielded a very welcoming aura. After asking me a series of detailed questions, and listening to my thoughts, Dr. Barnard diagnosed me with Postpartum Depression, and prescribed me anti-depressant medication. I could tell that she was very careful when it came to prescribing the medication, and she only did because she knew it was the only treatment option. She is definitely not one of those Doctors who simply hands out medication.

I am so grateful to her, because it is due to her correct diagnosis that I can enjoy my beautiful family and be the caring mother I have always hoped to be. I saw her again, some months later, when I was feeling much better. She took me off the medication, and suggested I see a local therapist. As per her recommendations, I now no longer take the anti-depressant medication, see a therapist, and feel better than ever.
