My husband and I are first time parents and desired to hold off vaccinations until our daughter was 4-6 months old. Though we aren't against vaccinating, Dr. Mogel made it very clear in the exam room that we either vaccinate her that very day or not return. This was not only offensive in nature, but the actual 'risks' and 'benefits' were not given to us until after we were coerced into vaccinating our daughter. Upon looking over said 'risks' and 'benefits' pamphlet (produced by the CDC in 2008) we were greatly concerned at the statistics found therein. The side effects were downplayed by Dr. Mogel, who stated "they were a rare occurrence". According to the CDC pamphlet, the chances of an adverse effect (including fever, crying and restlessness) are actually 1 in 4. I'm not a stats genius, but that's a 25% chance of the most minimum of side effects. Had we been given the 'actual' stats, things may have turned out differently and my husband and I would have been able to make a truly 'informed' decision. Instead, the doctor made the choice for us and here I thought we were the parents.
