I went to Dr. Doan b/c he was covered under my medical plan (i.e.: he was not personally referred to me). When I went in, I was pleasantly surprised at how meticulously clean the place was and how new everything was. There were TV's to entertain myself and good reading material. I was called in for my apt on time and was able to watch TV in my chair which I thought was cool. I went in for a cleaning, but instead the assistant immediately started taking x-rays. I didn't argue. At the end, the dentist came in and introduced himself. He said that I had 6 cavaties. I was shocked. I had seen a different dentist 12 mos prior and he told me I was a "no revenue client" meaning all I'd do is come in for cleanings for the rest of my life.

I asked Dr. Doan where on the xrays these cavaties were and he tried to show me but I didn't see anything. He said the faint color distinction of a cavity in the xrays takes a trained eye. Funny thing is, prior to the dentist entering the room, his assistant and I sat there and he told me my xrays looked great, no problems. Fine. I asked Dr. Doan if he would do my cleaning and he said NO. Dr. Doan told me I'd have to come back for another appt where he'd do my cleaning and all my fillings at one time. I felt like I was being swindled into another visit. What did I even schedule the appt for then?!? I clearly said I wanted a CLEANING. I mean fine, do the xrays if you want, but at least accomplish the primary purpose of my scheduled visit!

I've only had one cavity in my whole life so I decided to get a second opinion from a family dentist who is not as conveniently located nor covered by insurance (but trustworthy). My family dentist told me that each dentist is different and that Dr. Doan may have felt that my teeth needed work, but that he thought my teeth were fine and that the two "symptomatic" teeth just needed to be watched going forward to see if fillings might be needed. Saved me $1,000 and some unneeded dental work. If my teeth need it, I'm fine spending the cash, but I don't like the idea of people offering to put me under the knife or in this case the drill when I DON'T NEED TO! All I have to say is trust your instinct and if you need a second opinon, get one! Sidenote, Dr. Doan wears a Rolex watch.

Pros: The staff were really nice and professoinal. The place was clean.
Cons: I didn't trust Dr. Doan but it was a personal gut feeling. To each their own. Parking was down the street a short distance but at least it was free.
