I am appalled at the way I was treated and shocked and disgusted with what my son was put through. Most importantly, Dr. Wang has refused to tell me what she tested my son for. She (along with her nurse and office manager) told me (literally!) that the test and that information is "Dr. Wang's personal property." Not only is this unethical, it is against the law. I have no way of knowing what he was tested for. I am filing formal complaint with the AMA, American Pediatric Association, and writing letters to the hospitals. My pediatrician suggested I contact BC/BS and let them know. Long story, but here's the gist: Dr. Wang suggested my son be tested (skin pricks) as he was getting hives pretty bad. The nurse pricked him at least 20 or more times. The pricks caused ping-pong ball sized welts all over his arms. Next she used very long needle and stuck him in his back (3 times). My son was bleeding. Dr. said he as 4+ and 3+ reactions to EVERYTHING (pollens, weeds, trees, etc.) and also PEANUTS. She wanted him (of course) to start allergy shots. Of course they would have to give him all these different allergy shots for all the different things he tested positive to...I'm sure they'd make quite a lot of $ from us, seeing as my son was allergic to at least 20 or more things...according to them. Problem is (as I just found out from another allergist) he has dermagraphism--he should NEVER have been tested all at once, and people with this disorder always swell up because of the disorder. This allergist was shocked at Dr. Wang's refusal to give me photocopy of the test results (I should mention I paid $10 for a photocopy of the 5 pages in my son's chart.) I received this only after arguing with the office manager for 45 minutes. The office manager (one of the nastiest people I've ever met) actually tried to prevent me from looking at my son's chart. FYI unless it is psychiatric or a case of abuse or something, EVERY PARENT has the right to view their minor child's chart, AND get a copy of EVERY document in the chart. The office manager did not give me a copy of the test which would have told me what exactly he was tested for. All I got was a hand written list of things he supposedly tested positive for. I personally think there is something very strange going on...when I find out I'll update. I would strongly suggest not going to this office. If you have to, be aware that there is a high level of paranoia with the doctor and staff. Dr. Wang actually told me "I do not ever give out copies of my test. You wouldn't understand it. The test is mine. It is my own property. I don't give out copies.No. No. Sorry. I'll write down on paper what he allergic to." The nurse told me the same thing and added Dr. doesn't want anyone "stealing" the test....I researched Illinois State laws and Federal laws regarding this, and by law they are REQUIRED to give me a copy of every piece of paper in that chart. They REFUSED! I'm still in shock about that. I've never in my life been treated that way. It was completely unprofessional, unethical, and against the law. Again, people, think very carefully before going here, or at least understand what you're in for. Please, please get a 2nd opinion - it will be well worth any extra $ you have to spend.
