Today was my first appointment with Dr. Drazek. I was a bit hesitant after reading some of the reviews on this site. I was a meth addict for almost 8 years & having been clean for almost the same amount of time, my teeth are falling out. It makes my heart sad to know that I did this to myself and have cried at every appointment up until now. As I start out on this journey, this chapter in my life (being finally able to afford it)....Dr Drazek was unbelievable. He was patient, kind, knowledgeable, understanding, funny, believable and genuine. His costs are not above what others charge, believe me I checked.
And personally, the sculpture (that's still there), is charming. I smiled at it like I would a picture of back-woods, sweaty-hat wearing redneck catching catfish with their hands. What was said is silly.
I would recommend this office to anyone. Period.

I can respect that he has a lot of experience, but I also can clearly see he's not a sensitive guy. I'm half Chinese and wanted to scream when I walked in the door and saw a statue of Asian people with pointy heads and slanting eyes not wearing pants and pulling each others teeth with strings. I told the staff it was offensive and they said his daughter brought it to him from South Korea. I can understand being touched your kid thought of you and your profession when far away, but still it turns a race of people into a cute decoration like one might display a cute puppy dog. People are not puppy dogs, no matter what race they are they deserve respect and I didn't feel it in Drazek's office - he walked away so many times from my time in the chair to answer his phone too. I wanted to like this guy because he came highly recommended and has been in the business a long time, but didn't. I think the statue had me thinking he was racist and he didn't do much to change my mind. We did get some helpful info about brushing technique and costs for the procedure, but I want a dentist I can trust as a whole person - not just a collection of techniques.

Dr. Drazek made me feel that I was in the competent hands of a good friend, someone who really cared about me. There was no professional distance, a lot of personal care and a high level of expertise. I would recommend him without reservations to anyone looking for these somewhat unusual personal qualities plus professional care.

Dr Drazek's treatment of my children has been first class. From a really nasty procedure that went like a dream to actually telling me that no services would be needed on another of my children, nature was doing just fine albeit slowly. I cannot recommend Dr Drazek and his staff highly enough. Dr Drazek provides the best and appropriate care.

Pros: Least self serving dentist I have met

Cons: None

My goodness! How easy it is to throw stones while hiding behind the "Anonymous" moniker. How brave!

I've seen Dr. John Drazek three times now; twice in his Montrose office (for flexible scheduling for his patients) and once in his Grand Junction office. Three quarters of my first visit, Dr. Drazek spent in caring counseling about my family life, stresses and lifestyle (all of which redound to a fuller understanding of periodontal issues). I found him to be very humble, caring and understanding. His entire staff follows in his footsteps in this regard. Yes, I had a deep cleaning/planar scaling at his office in Grand Junction. It was done by a very skilled technician (I did not expect Dr. Drazek to perform this lower level procedure). The technician was very thorough, courteous and sympathetic. I too had trouble with being fully numbed, but she took the extra time and patience to make sure there was no discomfort. (If only "the top of your head was numbed, perhaps Anonymous may be a numbskull from the get-go, but I digress...)

Dr. Drazek and his team presented me with a full range of options from least invasive to major surgery and left the decision up to me, no "hidden costs" (along with flexible payment options as I, like brave Anonymous, have no dental insurance). By the way, I "shopped around" for four-quadrant deep-cleaning/planar scaling in our local Colorado area and found Dr. Drazek's up-front estimates to be very much in line with the local going rate.

Bottom line - if you want cut-rate periodontal care, go to your local dental college, for crying out loud. If you want a caring, sympathetic and highly skilled periodontal expert with more than 30 years experience under his belt, who will shoot straight with you from day one, go see Dr. John Drazek. He is not only a highly qualified expert periodontist, but a first-rate, caring human being.

After a bad experience in the chair while Dr. Drazek was "out of town," and remembering an uncomfortable condescending remark about my lifestyle from Dr. Drazek himself, I decided to seek a second opinion from a dentist in Florida I knew to be excellent and truly trustworthy. I sent all paper work and x-rays from Drazek's office in Grand Junction to Florida. The second opinion was that I was probably going to need to find another dentist. He said, "Dr. John Drazek is the most self-serving dentist I have seen in a long time." As examples he pointed to: Scheduling (always convenient for Drazek, not for me); Prices (WAY too high for the work to be done); Lack of documented alternate plans for the work to be done; Work done by technicians while the Doctor was out of the office ; And finally, though I asked to be under anesthesia for the surgery because I have a documented history of problems with "numbing," when I finally received info on planning for the surgery, they told me to bring a CD! The dentist in Florida told me I could fly to Florida, stay in a nice hotel, get the same work done in his office and actually save time and money on the entire process compared to Dr. Drazek's prices and scheduling. The most telling chapter in this experience is that I was originally quoted $6K for work to be done by Dr. Drazek's office, while I actually spent over $3K simply in preparation for the procedure. While I was in the chair having impressions made for the retainer in another dentist's office, my wife spoke to a woman in the waiting room whose husband was in the process of getting the exact same procedure through Dr. Drazek. This woman was angry that her husband had received the same quote I had, but the process had already cost $10K--for implanting one tooth! And she was literally scared because it wasn't over after three years, and couldn't afford to fix HER teeth. That deep cleaning I got at Drazek's office was done by an assistant who numbed the top of my head, but not my mouth (that cleaning hurt like hell, by the way). Dr. Drazek, whom I had assumed would do the cleaning, was completely out of the office. This single four quadrant deep cleaning cost $1700! After much stress, I decided, even though the process was underway, to bail and find another dentist, just as the doctor in Florida had recommended. In the process I lost $1400 on a retainer done by another dentist in Grand Junction that was part of the process, but never in the original quote! I was told by Drazek's office that the surgery could not be scheduled within two months (a window of time that would cause my family less financial hardship), because the fabrication of the retainer would take that long. Later, when I called to have the retainer sent to me after receiving the second opinon, I was told that the retainer had been in the office for quite a while. The orthodontist had completed it in a matter of days. It took a year, but I finally found another dentist, but I never recovered from the loss of funds and had to settle on a less expensive solution because of money lost through my experience with Dr. Drazek. Frankly, I am sick and tired of doctors who only cater to the rich and take advantage of people like me who are struggling to take care of their health on a limited budget. Dr. Drazek might be for you, if money is no object, you have a flexible schedule and can take a bit of bad manners in the chair. He is certainly more interested in picking your pocket than your teeth. He might be a good dentist. I don't even care at this point.
