Dr. Emily Bier is an amazing physician. In this day and age of doctors that are over-burdened and stretched way to thin, resulting in care that is often less than adequate, Dr. Bier reaches a standard of care that is definitely at the top of the ladder. I have been seeing her for about fifteen years, during periods of better and lesser wellness. During that time, I developed a medical problem was incredibly difficult to diagnose. Dr. Bier helped me find resources and was incredibly supportive as other (male) doctors routinely told me that it was, essentially, all in my head. Come to find out, it was almost all in my head--in my pituitary gland, which is nestled (kind of) in my brain. They were kind of right, but very wrong.

Dr. Bier is very good at providing lots of information, regarding what is wrong, and what the options are for treating a problem. After presenting treatment options, Dr. Bier then works with me to determine which option will work best. I appreciate this approach as it includes me in the decision making process.

A couple of years ago, when I was going through a number of personal problems, and when my mother passed away from a very messy case of cancer, Dr. Bier was an incredible source of support and comfort. She is the epitome of the old time family doc, taking care of the entire family, providing wisdom, insight into the kids behavior, suggestions and sometimes when needed a more "pointed" recommendation (i.e., "you need to...."). All of that is tied together with her breadth of knowledge and seemingly always up-to-date medical expertise.

I feel really fortunate to have found Dr. Emily Bier, and know I am in good hands with her. Having a good primary care doctor is a necessity these days -- Dr. Bier's patients have the best.

DR. KNOPF SEXUALLY ASSUALTED ME WHILE VISITING HIM FOR A MIGRAINE. HE ALSO SEXUALLY ABUSED MY FRIEND 15 YEARS AGO. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY TO THIS DR.
I CANT GO INTO DETAILS, BUT HE IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION.

I am no stranger to the hospital or doctors office, and the level of professional care and service I have come to enjoy at GTFMC is unmatched by any comparable organization, and is consistent. Dr Knopf is quick with the script I will agree, but he is very open minded and really listens to me. The good doctor is very thorough, attentive and efficient. His bedside manner lends itself to a comfortable visit each time I've seen him over the last 20 years. There was a time when you had to wait too long for a visit, but the center has experienced change and growth. Although Dr Knopf had been spread too thin for a while, I was always able to see an associate doctor and did so more than once, at which appointments ended with my total satisfaction. I feel that I have received care and treatment from Dr Knopf, for depression, that is far superior to the care and treatment I had previously received from specialists like psychiatrists, psychologists and the like. I naturally became excited that Dr Knopf has taken a special interest in the challenges of 'brain chemistry'.
I shall strongly suggest my children use Gresham Troutdale Family Medical Center, and preferably be seen by Dr Knopf.

Dr. Knopf treats the whole person. He recognizes the factors that make us healthy: body, mind AND spirit. I am glad he is forthright of his faith. Not sure why the reviewer stated their doubts as to Dr. Knopf being open about this... It's an ADVENTIST clinic. I find it a breath of fresh air that the Adventist medical facilities make no apologies for their faith. I also noticed he was quick to prescribe but also understood if I wanted to be more conservative about taking prescribed meds. He supported alternative methods and was excellent at follow up. He cares a great deal. I moved an hour away and still have him as my doctor. I'd travel 2 hours or more to keep going to him. He's very informative and helps you understand what is going on in your body. He is by far the BEST doctor I've ever had or even heard of!

Pros: Timeliness, professionalism, caring, compassionate

Cons: Availability - sometimes hard to get him - but worth the wait!

Dr. Knopf is very conscientious, caring and takes the time to really diagnose and treat his patients. He might be too quick to prescribe medication for "every ill" as another reviewer stated, but he has always been willing to discuss alternatives with me. Dr. Knopf is especially good with patients experiencing depression and anxiety.

Not the best clinic to take your kids, a pediatric clinic that specializes in children might be a better place.

Usually on time.

Good doctor. Very empathetic and caring. Well informed. Does not talk down to you or have a paternalistic attitude. Relies too heavily on giving you meds for every ill. A little too religious (not sure if it is professionally appropriate for a doctor treating the general public to espouse religious beliefs).
