.

From the moment Dr. Reins stepped into the examining room he was quite smug. He treated me as if I were wasting his time. He took a look at my file and chuckled. " Something funny?" I asked. "Yeah, Lyme disease." he says. Considering what I had already experienced for the last decade due to the lyme disease I did not find his statement amusing. "why is that?" I ask. "because you don't have it." Without as far as taking my temperature or even my blood pressure he has made this diagnosis. When clearly I had been referred to him by my primary physician who had already found positive results for late stage Lyme and had started treatment of Doxicyclene. I had also been to another disease specialist prior to Dr. Reins who had also diagnosed me with Lyme as well as started treatment by doubling my dosage of the antibiotic. As she felt I was not taking nearly enough for the level of anti-bodies showing in my blood work. The only reason I went to see Dr. Reins is because my other specialist is located in Reston and I live in Alexandria. Dr. Reins was closer and he accepted my insurance. I continue to suffer with Lyme disease and continue to struggle with trusting doctors after this experience. Dr. Reins' orders without hesitation was to perform a lumbar puncture to rule out MS. However, when the hospital released me too early ( within 30 min of the procedure) I suffered with a spinal headache for the next 9 days. Unable to sit up, stand, walk, or talk. My father had to fly in from Fla. to take care of me. When I called his office to get a note from Dr. Reins for my absence from work he refused to write me a note excusing me for the days I was out. I was crying in pain over the phone asking why he would not do this and he chuckled once again and exclaimed "Because I will not LIE for you!" Yes those were his words. The doctor who ordered the lumbar puncture in the first place would not excuse me from work due to the results of the procedure. I could go on however, I have a life to get back to. I do not think anyone should be treated like this and I feel for all of his past, present, and unfortunate future patience.
