I find Dr. Frank to be especially helpful in the times when I need a prescription called in, like for my asthma inhaler or something non-narcotic that some Dr.'s will want to bring you in for the co-pay, he is happy to just do over the phone - no money involved.

However, I've been increasingly put off by him because he seems to NOT be thorough, at all, contrary to a previous post. Consider this situation that actually occurred with me: I went in complaining of shoulder pain, most likely rotator cuff, that began while lifting weights one day, and limited me greatly in my activity that I could do. One would think that a doctor might, (1) check range of motion, (2) find out what specific motions trigger the pain, (3) use his hands to feel the shoulder for any abnormalities, etc., etc. Dr. Frank did none of the above, but was ready to jump to his conclusion within, literally, 60-90 seconds of seeing me.

This is just one instance of poor quality medicine, in my opinion.

Dr. Frank is great if you have no real ailments, and are only needing the occaisional refill of a non-narcotic prescription. If you need real medical advice, I'd consider someone else.

But old school is not necessarily bad, but it can be problematic sometimes. Dr. Frank (as we call him) has been a core GP in Bloomington since the sixties. He has TONS of patients, and an outstanding bedside manner.

He is pretty thorough as a doctor. When something is amiss, he is not shy about further testing or sending patients to specialists to rule out larger problems.

The downsides to his practice are:

1. Wait times: when you have an appointment with him, you wait. And wait. And wait. It can take two hours to get out of his office for a 10 minute appointment. The upside to this, though, is that his office is very accommodating if you get sick and need in in a hurry (which probably explains the wait times).

2. He is stubborn. His old school nature comes out when patients express interest in "new fangled" health fads like low carbing, natural supplements, and he even sometimes poo-poo's updated guidelines like lower blood pressure standards.

His staff are outstanding nurses. They are kind and gentle women. His office is always very clean. Parking can sometimes be tough because his office is near Indiana University's main campus.

Overall, I would say he is a solid doctor with the exception of the cons I listed above. I like him, and for the most part have enjoyed being his patient.

I used to go see Dr Hrisomalos when I was an older kid and teenager. He was always very nice. At an age when I didn't like most doctors, I didn't mind him. He is very soothing. His staff is really nice too. He once wrote me a statement saying it would be detrimental to my health if I wasn't allowed to go on a trip with my family because my school wouldn't excuse it without a statement. Very cool of him to do.

Update---
I now see Dr Hrisomalos as my general practictioner and I love him! He is my favorite doc ever!!! He always listens and treats me with respect. He followed up on many things that my other specialists missed and was the only one to find some conditions that are troubling me. He's awesome!
