I am writing not only because of the error that his nurse made while performing my vein therapy, but more due to the way in which his office handled the mistake. It was obvious to me that she knew she had missed the vein at the time of the treatment. If actions would have been taken to treat the error proactively I would have not suffered as much pain or permanent scarring.

I now will have to incur the expense having another procedure to correct the scarring. I do not think that it was right for him to profit from this unfortunate, preventable situation.

Business Response:

I concur that it was indeed unfortunate that this problem occurred. However, it is misleading to say that it was a "preventable". Sometimes outcomes are not the fault of the doctor, or nurse or patient:sometimes things just happen. This was not an "error" made by the nurse, but rather the result of a well-known possible side effect of treatment of spider veins. All my patients are informed of this potential problem in advance of treatment. And yes, rarely there can be permanent scarring, but this is the result of normal healing, not because of poor or delayed care. The comments made should not discourage other patients from seeking appropriate treatment for their varicose veins. -F. Elmore, M.D.
