I was quoted one price before the procedure but when it was over with i was doubled the amount. I was trying to get it fixed there and the staff was really rude then Gargasz came out and started yelling at me in front of other patience. I was so embarrassed. I will never recommend this a**hole to anyone. On top of that my filling came out a month later. Worst experience ever. FYI he has bad breath also. What a great dentist to have bad breath. Gargasz you probably have.. I don't know 100 samples of mouthwash or toothbrushes... USE THEM.

He damaged a perfectly good tooth of mine and then charged me for fixing his damage, partway. The xrays showed that there was nothing wrong with that tooth but for some distraction he mistakenly drilled into the wrong tooth and exposed the nerve that proceeded to die , and therefore requiring a root canal and an eventual crown. I was in pain and I had to let him do the root canal. (Of course, He does not admit it.) I did not pay him because he caused the problem. Now he??s been sending me invoice. I would like to report dental malpractice. I told him that I would dispute. He said go ahead. He probably can modify the x-ray in computer shows his work was needed and he did not do anything wrong. What shall I do? Where can I report his malpractice?

CAUTION!!!!!!! If you are taking the time to search for a good dentist please just keep on looking for another cause Downtown Dentist & Brett Gargasz will cause you and your wallet serious pain. The fact is this travesty of a dentist should not be licensed to work on animals. I look forward to my day in court. The only person I would consider a professianal is Carver Little, I hope he sees the writing on the wall and leaves before his name is also smeared. Keep on reading the customer reviews on this clown and his staff before they rob you as well. See you in court.

I needed my two upper wisdom teeth removed and two fillings so my boyfriend recommended Dr. Gargasz. I walked into his office expecting just to get pricing but they gave me a free consult with xrays and a price before i left which was cheaper than anyone else i had spoken to. I made an appointment for the following day.
I'm a total coward but he was completely understanding and talked me through everything, he even had the assistant hold my hand until i fell asleep. the next thing i remember is being at home and in bed. My recovery is going way better than i expected and i will do my follow up in a few days. Then i plan on going back to him for braces and teeth whitening. He's AWESOME! Thanks Dr. Gargasz.

Ideal for the commuter if you want to pay for parking.
No wonder you've never had to wait.
I'm a little concerned that the reviews showed Dr. Gargasz at a 1 star rating until recently (which is when his license was to be renewed-it expired at the end of February). I was shocked to see that it had indeed been renewed. WOW! This guy should not be practicing! He has messed up my husband's teeth! We didn't check for a rating until AFTER he went to Dr. Gargasz (which we did because it was such a bad experience.) Seems we weren't the only ones with bad experiences. I guess he is good at teeth cleaning since that is what all of the good comments are about, but don't go for anything else....
It's a very scary experience.

Pros: always have time openings

Cons: can't I just write "everything"?

I have been going to Dr. Gargasz for over 4 years now and not only is his staff friendly but they are very accommodating. As far as dental offices I thoroughly enjoy my visits they are timely and focused and I don't think I have ever waited more than a couple of minutes.
This dental office is ideal for the Downtown Tampa Bay commuter ??.

Going to the dentist is usually a scary event, but Dr Gargasz and his staff made it so effortless it was the best experience I have had at a dental office. One usually doesn't leave the dentist saying what a wonderful time they had, but the Dr and his staff understand patients concerns and worries, and really put you at ease. Anyone that doesn't appreciate his great work, and kind heart, must be bitter unhappy people that probably never have a good experience anywhere. I would highly recommend this well trained, professional, respectful Dr and team.

Pros: As good as they get!!!!

Cons: None at all

I've been a patient of Dr. Bret Gargasz since he opened in Tampa. I've needed lots of work done, as my teeth have always been considered "soft", or easily prone to cavities, since i was a child. I've also endured traumatic damage to my teeth due to domestic violence issues. Dr. Gargasz has been a "God send". I have been nervous about going to the dentist, UNTIL i met Dr. Gargasz... He instantly put me at ease when i met him. He looks me in the eye, he has a genuine smile and an obvious desire to be the best he can be. He is patient with me, has a beautiful office in a prime location, and I have never had a less-than-pleasant time when i go to see him. The tender care he has given and the patience and willingness to listen, and help me overcome my shame of having "unsightly" problems with my teeth due to the domestic violence issues i've been through, have compelled me to recommend more than 20 patients to his office. I'm convinced, there is not a kinder professional than Dr. Bret Gargasz.

Dr. Gargasz and his staff were very helpful in fitting me in last minute for a zoom treatment so that I could have a beautiful white smile for my wedding day! Not only were they able to fit me in, but also were very kind in professional through out the whole process. I would definitely recommend him to friends.

Dr. Bret Gargasz, is a great dentist that has displayed honesty, integrity and professionalism every time I have visited his office for an appointment. His services are prompt and accurate. Dr. Gargasz has made a usually dreadful experience to the Dentist an enjoyable experience for me. I highly recommend Dr. Bret Gargasz to anyone who is looking for a Dentist.

I went to the Riverview office because it was close to my house and they were open until 7pm. I didn't see Dr. Gargaz but I did see Dr. Trimble. I had three crowns that needed to be replaced. The first appointment for the first crown was one of the most traumatic dental experiences I've ever had. Halfway through drilling into my tooth a piece of the equipment fell DOWN MY THROAT! The doctor told me I better try and throw it up or I'd have to go to the hospital and he wouldn't be able to finish my crown. He seemed annoyed that I had swallowed it, like it was my fault! The first time I went back to get the perm crown put on 3 weeks later, they told me they had messed up and it wasn't fitting and so they'd have to redo it. I came back 3 weeks later for the second time and I saw a different dentist who told me that he still couldn't put the crown on because my tooth had been drilled down too much and they would need to build it up. They worked on one of my other teeth to crown and when I got home that night the temp crown they put on fell off. I'm going back to see Dr. Gargaz on Saturday for the build up and 3rd attempt at a crown and after reading these reviews I'm taking my husband with me!

This has been a nightmare. My husband and I first visited this guy because he had Saturday hours, and no one else does. He muttered and was rude when examining us, but we put up with it. He declared I had 8 cavities and needed a crown. He also offered me a "two for one" deal on teeth whitening if my husband and I got it done that day. That really should have tipped me off.

I made my first follow-up appointment to start getting the work done. My husband had a follow-up for one cavity. When we were seen, it was another dentist, who asked us both "what he was doing that day"? I advised him to consult my care plan, as did my husband. He filled three cavities for me, but he told my husband he didn't have a cavity. But he replaced a filling that that we later found didn't need replacement anyway. My fillings remained sensitive until my next appointment, three weeks later. This time I got Gargasz again. The woman prepping me informed me that I now had a total of 13 cavities and needed three crowns, including one on my front tooth! I balked, asking to talk to Gargasz. But at no time was I rude to either one of them, although I was getting very irritated at that point.

When he finally showed up, I asked Gargasz why I now needed all this extra work, which of course would bring lots of more cash into him. I was still calm at this point. He got very irritated, telling me if I would stop being "so hostile" he may treat me for "what I clearly needed."

I got up and left.

When I went back to get my x-rays, they wanted to charge me $35 for "copies" of them, which were print-outs because they were digital. The office said could not be used by another dentist because they were not backed up by film.

I am pregnant and now cannot get x-rays for another seven months. Of course, I will have to pay for x-rays again at that point.

Please, DO NOT see this man, or go to this practice at all. Save your mouth and your wallet.

I had the unfortunate experience of going to this quack. it has cost me thousands of dollars and we are still trying to get my teeth fixed. he is an angry man who should not be practicing. stay away from him. the pain he caused is unbelievable and he doesn't care if he does things wrong. he has an answer for everything. 3 other dentists have rendered opinions and he sits back and does nothing. I think his career will soon be over once the Florida Board of Dentistry gets on this case.

This man was the most unprofessional, arrogant, condescending moron I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. He was totally unprofessional and was only interested in hearing the sound of his own voice. He refused to answer questions or address the issue which actually brought me to his office in the first place. He indicated when reviewing my x-rays that I had damage to teeth I did not even have and fillings that were damaged when I have no fillings. When brought to his attention he advised me, "Well there are tooth coloured fillings you know". As if I have never heard of them and that they were somehow implanted in my mouth without my knowledge! I was not sure if I should bust out laughing or bill him for the time I wasted in his office. Spare yourself the nightmare of patronizing this buffoon, unless of course you bring a hidden camera for the Jack@ss crew.

I went to Dr. Bret Gargesz because his Riverview office is only a block away from my house, he took my insurance and I had fell and chipped my tooth in the shower. My front tooth needed fast immediate attention so I did not have much time to research a dentist. I went to get an estimate and I was then told that I would need a crown(Cap) I then explained that I would like to get the front four of my teeth capped for cosmetic as I had spaced out teeth and always wanted that beautiful smile, Dr. Gargasz talked me into getting my top front six teeth capped, I am 22 and did not know much about Dental work(My fault maybe) but he never mentioned that because my teeth were not in bad shape or anything that I could have gone with Veneers(Much less painful and cheaper) instead he used his way of talking people into to things to get me to call my grandma and convince her to loan me the money($5,326.00). I told him I would like to do two now and some more later when I had the money, he then told me I would look "Stupid" and that he would not do that for me. I eventually agreed that doing all six at the same time was better. I went in for my apt. to get started, he did not go over any details on how the procedure was going to be done, after lots of pain and drilling he left the room, I took a picture with my cell phone and started to freak out, my teeth were grinded down to a nasty point, I looked like something off of a horror movie, what was so bad is he never told me that this is how it was done. On top of that I had to wait two weeks longer to get my permenate caps, my teeth are HORRIBLY sensitive. He did not explain the risks of sensitivity, he told me that I wouldn?t need a root canal and that if I did it should be done before the caps were placed because it is easier (for him) when I told him how sensitive my teeth were he told me it would go away and that I should just get the caps put on.

. All of this was done November 2008, it is now February 2009 and I need a root canal on all six of my capped teeth, I have been on vicoden for three weeks because of the pain. Back tracking, when I told him I wanted to just have all of my front teeth done he said, in these exact words, "Next you can go see my brother down the street for some plastic surgery" What kind of a professional recommends plastic surgery to a 22 year old. I am 5'3" 130 and am in no need of plastic surgery, he is a horrible disgusting dentist, very rude, does not care if you are in pain, or on time, or if you are happy with the work, he recommends the most expensive procedures without letting you know there are cheaper less painful ways. I also brought my daughter there to get a filling, she was crying, and he told her to "stop acting like a baby, I know this doesn't hurt you" she is six years old and he was treating her horribly. He said "If you can't stop crying you can get up and leave, your scaring my customers away, then you'll have to come back and then you'll know what pain is" two days later the filling has fallen out, I am not taking her back to him, DO NOT GO TO HIM! He also went on with nasty comments. This was the worst experience all the pain felt like electricity shooting up my teeth and into my head, I can not bite into even a soft piece of bread, I can not drink hot or cold, but through a straw. Not only did I spend 5,000 with him, but now I have to spend almost 6,000 in root canals all because he didn?t explain the procedure, risks and after pain of what he recommended for me.

My husband and I switched to this dentist when we picked up a new dental plan. Initially, we were getting only cleanings but Dr Gargasz has a salesman's mentality and has his staff call every couple of months to pester you to begin your "treatment plan" which is essentially to replace every piece of dental work ever done in your mouth. Recently, I went in for my regular cleaning and he started pestering me about starting my "treatment." In a moment of weakness, I consented to have him do "whatever was the most pressing." I don't know the numbers of my teeth and only realized when I got home that he had chosen as "most pressing," a crown that was less than 5 years old even though I have some old fillings that are probably 20 years old that I had expected him to select! But a crown is much more expensive! During the procedure, the pain was excruciating. Tears were streaming down my face, clearly annoying him. It felt like electricity was going through my tooth. He told me that I was being hypersensitive because I was scared and I should just take a deep breath. I managed to get through the procedure without passing out but now I am sure I need a root canal because the tooth continues to hurt. This is a tooth that was giving me absolutely no trouble before this. I went back to get the permanent cap on yesterday but I insisted on having him put it on with temporary adhesive because there is no way I will let HIM do the root canal! DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY!

Pros: Accepted my dental plan

Cons: Cavalier attitude, rushed from chair to chair, unclean office, no compassion

After reviewing the previous reviews, I'd like to add mine. I have been a client of Tampa Downtown Dentist for over 3 years. The wait time is minimal. The front desk staff has always been helpful. The hygenists are professional. Dr. Bret Gargasz is professional and always pleasant. Metered street parking is a disadvantage - Big Time. I have recommended this dentist office.

I agree with the reviews above. DO NOT use this dentist. The staff is terrible, billing is a complete joke (they somehow got hold of insurance I had over 5 years ago, even after I gave them my current insurance card) and I have been plagued with billing problems. I paid in full for a crown I had done recently, and now there's a mystery $125 charge that I'm being hounded about.

Dr. Gargasz will get mad at you if you flinch from pain, he'll openly get mad at his staff right in front of you while you're in the chair, and they'll cancel appointments on you. Of course, if you cancel on them, there MAY be a fee...

Again, avoid Downtown Dentist (Bret Gargasz) at all cost. What an awful practice.

Pros: Convenient to my house.

Cons: Horrible experience. Don't use this dentist!

Terrible experience. Staff has no attention to detail - could not get my name right (even with me standing there and spelling it repeatedly, and it's not a hard name) and gave me a referral for the wrong problem. I wouldn't trust them not to work on the wrong tooth! Dr. Gargasz recommended lots of work, but I don't trust that either and won't be going back. The office also has no parking.
