.

I began wearing hearing aids in 1964. I have all sorts of experiences with those devices over the years. Some were good, some bad. True, the hearing aids improved over the years, also. I moved to Mason City in the early 90's, and soon became a client at Hearing Associates, working with Gary Dockum. I received service and advice about how to get more from my hearing aids. When the hearing aids I had became out-dated, I was fitted with hearing aids that worked very well for me. Not only did I get the best devices for me at that time, I also got the information and service that were required to benefit greatly from them. When I lost all hearing in my left ear, I went to my physician. My physician made an appointment for me to see an ear specialist in 10 days. On the way out of that office, at approximately 5 PM, I went to Hearing Associates and there Gary Dockum took me immediately to the ear specialist nextdoor. He saw me right away, on Gary's request, though he had been in the process of closing his office for the day. The doctor sent me to Iowa City for immediate attention. My right hearing aid was then changed to carry the load for both ears as best as could be done. Because Gary Dockum had told me about cochlear implants and given me information about how they work, I was in touch with the Iowa University Otolaryngology Clinic in Iowa City. When I became completely deaf, I was able to receive cochlear implants at the University Hospital. Because I had received all the help I needed in this process from Hearing Associates, I recommend then highly to anyone experiencing hearing difficulties. These people know their stuff and are willing to share their knowledge - not just sell you a hearing aid(s).
