Dr. Penny and his staff are absolutely fantastic! I don't know where I would be if I had seen any other doctor when I moved back to SA. I have now been a patient of his for 3 1/2 yrs. Prior to seeing him, I lived in Orlando and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Dr. penny saw right through that and knew immediately I had been misdiagnosed, as I do not have schizophrenia. I was also on a medication to cover up a side effect from another medication I was taking. He changed up my meds to where they should be. And I feel normal. Thanks to Dr. Penny and his excellent staff. I never find myself waiting too long in his office. There have been times where I have, but I know the person he's meeting with really needs his help the same way I do. And that's understandable as there's only one Dr. Penny! Debbie is wonderful and has been a huge help to me. To anyone considering going to see him, please do as you won't be disappointed and you'll get the care you need and deserve.

I know that keeping appts may be difficult but the woman who used the excuse "Pregnant" was way out of line. A contract is signed that patient will keep appt or notify the office. It was his right to take her to court for lack of payment. I have never seen the office persons be anything but kind and helpful. Dr. Penny knows his meds. He also studies other pharmacological interests and keeps of top of new meds and one that might caught trouble. He is very friendly.

I owe my life and the health of my 3 children to Dr. Penny. He is the only doctor I've seen in the 18 years I've been diagnosed with bipolar that has consistently been effective at helping me be the healthiest I've ever been.

He is super knowledgeable about all psych meds and every single time my meds become less effective he has tweaked my meds so I bounce right back. Before finding him, I just assumed that I would never be healthy enough to make it through pregnancy--with Dr. Penny, I've had great mental health through 3 pregnancies.

I've been a patient for 8 years, and anytime I feel symptoms coming back, he sees me. The staff are there to make sure his office operates smoothly so he can do what he's there to do: help patients. If you are wasting their time missing appointments, you are not only wasting their time, but stealing time away from those of us who need to see him.

Dr. Penny has been instrumental in helping me with providing paperwork for my disability claim, school loans, etc. He even spoke with the ignorant pediatrician at Methodist when I had my first baby who insisted that I was not allowed to breastfeed due to my medication.

I highly recommend Dr. Penny & appreciate the hard work every person in his office does--they are all dedicated, and spend many, many hours helping people. They work with patients who have to pay out of pocket, and are always there to help when you have an emergency.

He also is generous with med samples so those without insurance can remain healthy.

He is the only doctor that has ever helped me stay consistenly healthy so that I can concentrate on what matters most--living my life instead of living with the ups & downs of a serious mental illness. I can be a great mom and wife instead of not being able to get out of bed for weeks.

Great doctor & great staff!

Great doctor & great staff!

Pros: very knowledgable about new meds/combos

It is very easy to find a negative experience with a doctor or any other business.
Patients that are happy with Dr. Penny are not likely to post anything. I was looking for his phone number & happened onto this site. The reason I am posting is because I don't want someone swayed by the above posts -however accurate they may be.
Dr Penny is THE BEST at diagnosing and treating psychiatric conditions. I have been to countless doctors and misdiagnosed time & time again. Dr. Penny quickly diagnosed my condition, prescribed accurate medication & changed the course of my life! Not only that, he saw my child who has also been misdiagnosed by countless doctors, prescribed wrong medications causing painful consequences. Dr. Penny is VERY qualified and worth it. I pay out of pocket for his expertise because I know that my child and I are under the best care. Yes, he wants people to be on time- duh! -what business owner doesn't...and as a patient, wouldn't you want the extra time if you needed it??-the same time that would cause someone else to have to wait? He & his staff constantly deal with people who by nature are difficult...not to say that we don't deserve kindness, but that they need to be firm with people to bring about timely results. Good grief...cut him some slack. He is not there to be your buddy...or your soft place to fall...that is what counselors are for. He is a specialist & does his job well. Would you want your dentist to diagnose your mental heath issue? Or Dr. Penny to clean your teeth?? He is a very compassionate man with a job to do.
Honestly...Do you expect people to keep a commitment?? Ever demanded a refund? Been short with a customer service rep? What about the phone solicitor that calls at dinner time??
We all have! Does that mean you lack compassion or are someone others should avoid?
Come on! Be carefull...we reap what we sow!
Need comfort...find Christ. Need psychiatric help...call Dr. Penny.
'nuff said.

Pros: Small office; Quick response when needed.

Cons: As with any doctors office...potential wait time.

.

I have had to wait almost an hour for almost every appointment. I found the receptionist rude and the doctor condescending. There are too many good doctors out there who don't make patients wait. I will not be returning.

Dr. Penny sued me for 2 missed appointment plus fees while i was pregnant. He added attny's fees, interest, and court fees. The total was over $700.00. Also, he dropped me as a patient and would not tell me if it was safe for me to continue my medication while i was pregnant. I was actually told by the woman at his front desk, "Well, it really doesn't matter now if its safe or not, since you have been taking it this far into your pregnancy, does it?" (I was about 5 months).
