My wife spent many months going through the VA system trying to find treatment for her condition. Then her in system neurologist got permission for her to see a specialist. Dr. Hershewe. Who her doctor had worked with before.

After going to his office she was told the VA did not submit the paperwork correctly and the very rude staff members had her in tears before she left.

After following up with the VA she went back and got all the paperwork in the order that Dr. Hershew's staff had requested and had a VA staff member send it to them. Not only did the VA comment on how rude his staff is but then my wife was told that she would have to wait for Dr. Hershewe to review the case and then decide if he would treat her or not.

After a month of waiting her VA doctor called and was left with the impression that Dr. Hershew would take her case and Dr. Hershewe even reviewed her records over the phone with her VA doctor. Leaving him with the impression that he was indeed taking my wife's case. After another month of waiting and her condition getting worse her VA doctor called Dr. Hershewe again and asked why no appointment had yet been made to see my wife.

He was then told that he would not be taking on any clients from the VA.

Now if you don't want to deal with the men and women that have severed their country fine. That's your choice. But is it ethical to make someone with a serious medical issue wait months and let their condition get worse just to then tell them you won't take them because you have decided not to work with the VA system?

I can't even describe how upset I am that we waited months for this "Doctor" to make up his mind. Time that could have been used to treat my wife's condition. Is it right to string somebody along for months with their health failing when you had no intention of helping in the first place?

Don't even bother with this so called "Doctor" and his rude staff if you wish to get well.

Dr. Hershewe is the best doctor I have ever had. He really takes the time to understand how his patient feels, any questions you have, and gets to know you on a personal level. He will explain what your condition is in terms you can understand, and he makes you feel comfortable. Dr. Hershewe and his staff are very professional and polite. I really recommend Dr. Hershewe to anybody, he has good and up-to-date information, he has a good education background, and he has good experience in his practice.

Side Note: Dr. Hershewe and his staff are the nicest people to be around. They are all kind of quirky and like to make you feel comfortable by talking to YOU, not just about your condition.

My personal experience:
I was about 13 when I first saw Dr. Hershewe, and I was really nervous. The staff took my nerves away by actually talking to me and telling me about their own lives, which I like so it makes them seem like real people, if that makes sense. Dr. Hershewe was very interested in my case, which is Downbeat Nystagmus (DBN) (involuntary eye movement where my eyes gaze up, but beat down at the same time). He had his whole staff come into the room to watch my eyes, a little nerve wrecking for a 13-year-old girl, but he asked me and I was okay with it. Dr. Hershewe really made me understand what my condition was, and made me feel comfortable.
I am 17 now and we still havent figured out what caused my DBN, it one of the rare kinds of Nystagmus. I believe I have had this from childhood but I cant be sure. My Grandpa on my dads side had a different, more common type of Nystagmus so it could be hereditary, but that is rare. I have been on 3 medications that he had prescribed me. He really recommends that I take it because it would help with my school and everyday things. They help, but I hate taking it. But I know that Dr. Hershewe has the best intentions.
Now, I see Dr. Hershewe every few months, depending on if I am on a new medication or if he wants to see me a different time. I have come to really trust Dr. Hershewe and his staff.
