My son is sixteen now and still remembers the three years that I took him to see this doctor between the ages of three to six. Before the last visit to see this doctor, my son was shaking, he was so nervous. They didn't use gas and told him lies, like the shot was a mosquito bite. They told me he needed teeth pulled, cavities, filled, a root canal. He was my first son and I thought they were the experts. They didn't allow parents in the back, because they didn't want the parents to make the children nervous. I kick myself for listening to all of their psychological reasoning. This was the worst parenting mistake I have made in sixteen years. I wish I never took my son there. I still regret it and am writing this 10 years later.

Worst experience here! I last saw Dr. Gonzalez as a patient when I was 16. He was mean then. Since our insurance only had him listed under pediatrics I decided to give it a try with my own kids. The female Dr. is nice, but Dr. Gonzalez is rude to the kids and very inappropriate with his staff in front of the kids. My son is small for his age, so maybe they didn't realize he was ten and caught on to the fact they were speaking in code about their personal lives. My son knows all about the hygienists' weekends and how Dr. Gonzalez gives them "special cigars" for upcoming concerts with out of town boyfriends. When the Dr. was asked by a hygienist how he was doing, he responded, "not as good as you're looking". My son also told me that Dr. G yelled at him for gagging and for crying after he refused to give him novacaine for a filling. He told him if he kept crying it would make him mess up his teeth. I have now had two procedures redone on my son by another dentist that Dr. G originally did. That's after Dr. G already fixed one shotty job he did...but not without announcing and yelling to the other kids waiting that my son doesn't brush his teeth right. He was purposely trying to humiliate him. We never went back. Those of you with small children claiming everything was perfect...I suggest you ask some probing questions about what really went on back there when you were in the wiating room. Unfortunately, my son didn't tell me all of it until I got upset about the dentist humiliating him. It all came out then. Now I know why I am terrified of dentists. I went to Dr. G until I was 16 and finally knew better!

I received poor service from this dentist when I was about 6 yrs old. After the fact, we learned of other kids who have had similar "mistakes" done to their teeth. I was having a crown put on one of my back teeth. They numbed the correct side of my mouth but put the crown on the opposite side. I was screaming and my parents said they could hear me from the reception room. The receptionist would not allow my parents to go back and see what the problem was, but my sister could since she was already back there for work as well. They claimed I was "making a big fuss over nothing" and told my parents that. THEY NUMBED THE WRONG SIDE!! After they figured out what was going on, they made my sister leave. They claimed the other side needed to be done anyway and that payment would still need to be made because of it. My parents were angry and demanded to see charts immediately. They pulled them into another room, refused to let them see the charts and after my parents threatened to get a lawyer involved, they told my parents they would need a subpoena to see anything. My parents walked out with a woman yelling after them that they didn't know anything.

My daughter was always terrified of her previous dentist, even when just getting a routine cleaning. I decided to try another dentist and brought her in to see Dr. Gonzalez.

I was amazed to see her so calm the entire time and never had an issue. Dr. Gonzalez and his staff was patient with her and I will not be taking her anywhere else.

DO NOT TRUST THIS DENTIST!! I have been taking my son to this dentist since he was 3, did not like how they do not let you back with your child, but understood the reasoning. At age 5 he went for regular checkup and low and behold he had 4 cavities, I was shocked due to our brushing habits with him, however I let them do the fillings. Fast forward to the next year and guess what he had 5 more cavities and they were all on the same teeth! I asked to speak with the doctor and be shown the x-rays, he pointed to nothing with his pen and asked if I saw the cavities, I said all I see is your pen mark, his response that it was not very visible to the untrained eye. Little did he know I adjusted dental claims for 5 years and reviewed countless x-rays. So I take my son to another dentist and do not mention anything about my experience with Gonzalez, guess what, one very small cavity. From 5 to one....on baby teeth. This guy is all about making money at your childs expense!!! Don't be suckered by this crook!

Couldn't say enough good things about this office!
As a child, my parents wanted the best for my brother and I when it came to our teeth. At the age of two we were both being seen by Dr. Gonzalez for our excellent dental care. It taught us not to "fear" the dentist at a young age and allowed us to pass that on to our kids. Our children have also received dental care at Dr. Gonzalez office with the same caring treatment that we received years ago. We have given our child the option to go to a adult practice but she wont go anywhere else. She has always loved Dr. Gonzalez and his wonderful staff. For those looking for a pediatric dentist- look no more!!!!

Excellent experience! I took my daughter for her first visit with Pediatric Dental Center. She has always been apprehensive about dental visits after a bad experience with her previous dentist.

Dr. Gonzalez and his staff did a great job with her and she actually enjoyed her visit. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend them.

They said my 4 year old son needed 4 fillings and a crown!! Brought to another dentist, no cavities found. The tooth that needed the $500 crown came out 6 months later when the new tooth came in. 2 years later, and NO other dentist can find the other 4 areas that needed fillings. Do Not Trust!!

I had to write a review when I saw all the positive feedback this practice receives. My son was 3 years old when he wore a spot on an incisor by grinding his teeth. It needed a "patch" basically a small filling. I understand taking children back without the parents, even though I don't like it. (He was my first child, and I had very little experience with dental work myself.) To compensate, I asked the tech to explain exactly what would happen. When she refused, I ended the appointment by leaving. Staff came running after me, yelling I was endangering my child by leaving...and by the way, I owed them for an office visit! I DON'T THINK SO! The only DANGER he faced was the possibility of being left in the hands of incompetant staff! After letting them make fools of themselves in the their own reception room, I agreed to speak with the dentist, again in the reception room. Her excuse for not explaining what would happen was so that I wasn't upset! So I left, dared them to send me a bill for services NOT rendered. To their credit, they never sent a bill. Happy ending....we went to Dr. Marta Rivera and she handled everything. No muss, no fuss, no anesthesia. And I stayed in the room with my son. What a difference.

My daughter first went to Dr. Gonzalez over 11 years ago. We had been referred when another dentist could not handle her fear. I love the way she was a big girl and went back to play before her exam. After 2 visits she was not afraid of the dentist. My son now goes and actually likes the dentist. I recommend them to everyone I know who has children. A previous review said their child was wandering the parking lot does not sound credible. When you go in their is 2 doors that booth lead to the lobby where parents wait. The door in the back of the office is one of those fire doors with an alarm. I know my child was very curious about setting it off:)
This dentist and their office staff are awesome!

I have no clue why everyone think that this place is not great. My son is 4 years old and he has been going there for the past 3 years. I have never had a problem with anyone their. With his first check up they did let me go back but now he is willing to go back on his own. I can see where the kid would fear more if there mother or father was there cause the child knows that his mother or father will save him or her. By letting them go back they have less worries. Staff there has always been nice but like any other place a staff worker can be in one of those days. We are all human. I recommend this dentist to one of my friends and now she has her whole mommy group ( all 15 moms) takes their child there. Don't be scared off by what others write. I mean this place has T.V.s in back for the kids and PlayStation for them to play. Where are going to find something like that at? I am in and out for a cleaning in 20-30min. They do a good job.

My son went to Dr. Gonzalez for his first initial visit and did GREAT!!! He needed to go back for a follow up. Well another appointment was made. He went in by himself, then they called me back to discuss another procedure that was needed. After he was done, I was called back for payment of services. While paying the clerk called for him twice and he never came. Shortly after the second call for him, he came running around the corner CRYING!! He then explained to me that he had went out to the parking lot to look for me!!! The nurse told him to go to the corner. He is 5 and it was his second time there!!! how could they let a child out of their sight???? I was furious!! I took my child home and later asked to speak with an office manager about the matter and was then told that my son did not walk out into the parking all the way to my car. Actually they said that he never left the office. My son would not have made up a story that quick and be that upset like he was. WILL NOT take him back!!! They showed child neglect!!! Dentists are Awesome though, can;t say much for the rest of the office staff!!!

I would not advise taking your children to Pediatric Dental Center in Brandon, Dr. Gonzalez. I called to cancel an appointment and reschedule because of testing at school that week and was told they would not be able to see my children anymore because I cancelled the appointment. I asked to speak with the office manager and was told by Mary that the office manager did not want to have to deal with these calls and that she would probley not call me back. And then went on to state that time is money! I was totally shocked by that and feel that Dr. Gonzalez is only interested in money! Very sad to, I went to Dr. Gonzalez as a child and I am very shocked to see his true colors as well as his RUDE staff!

I have taken my 2 year old to this office twice and had been warned previously that they do not allow parents to go back with their children. I mentioned that concern when scheduling my appointments and they were very accommodating. I was permitted to accompany my child both times. Yes, there were tears, but let's be honest: you can prepare a young child for only so much. The Dr. and staff were patient and worked QUICKLY and efficiently to minimize any distress. The second visit went much more smoothly than the first and BOTH times the tears were gone before I even finished with checkout. As mentioned in an earlier review (although I may not have chosen some of those words) your children look to you for support. Do your best to be informed and open with your concerns proactively so that you select a place that is right for you and your child. Prepare them for what the visit will entail and strive to be an appropriate and positive model for your child.

I am a dental professional as well as a mother. I think you parents should understand the reason why we do not allow parents to go back with the children. Kids tend to act differently with the staff alone. They are more accepting and comfortable with the staff and procedures we must do without their parent present. If a parent is there the child tends to feed off the parent's nervousness causing problems for the staff. Parents tend to hover over the staff as well making us feel as if we are under scrutiny. Imagine yourself in our position, having to work with such conditions causes added stress that is not needed. Overall it is better for everyone if the parent just stays out of the way and let's us do our job.

I took my 3yr son to the Pediatric Dental Center for his first dental experience. I have to say I was very impressed with the staff. My son loved his dental assistant & she was very gentle. Granted the waiting room is a little dated but it is a dentist's office not a daycare. Initially they didn't allow me to go in the back with him but once he was settled in the chair I could peek in. Overall I was very satisified with the work & my kid was happy.

I have to tell you that i am surprised at the negative review. i had all four of my girls dental needs met at this office and always felt safe and taken care of. i had a daughter with appliance issues and always the situation dealt with correctly. I admire Dr.Gonzalez and will forever be grateful to him for my childrens dental care. I have not had the female dentist to care for my children maybe she is the difference in opinion. i would let him know. Dr. Gonzalez has never not been there for any concern i have ever had. My oldest is now 23 years old and youngest is ll. My daughters always reported good care. Never was there an issue and i went for 23 years. My girlfriends from work are the ones who told me i must" take my children to him" because they were so impressed, Being nurses and myself, I would have noticed poor medical practice and never did we ever complain to each other that it was so. I was never refused to the back or felt anyone hiding anything and when i payed for the bill i had eye vision and seen children being dealt with playfully and kindly. I highly recommend him!!!

I felt very suspicious about this place practically from the first time I made the visit. The waiting area is small. It kinda of looks like a dental assembly line for kids. The kids go through one door and come out of another. The video in the waiting room is old and out dated and plays everytime I visit there. I wonder if they're too cheap to get updated material. My son had appliances placed in his jaw. A few days later, they came a loose. I was not please with that because my son was in pain for days. Then he had braces applied to his mouth. The braces have since broke. I paid over $2,500 for broke braces not even 2 months old. As soon as I find another clinic, my son is gone. I do not recommend this place. It has so far been a nightmare for me!

When my 3-year-old son had to have some minor dental work done (discolored tooth from a fall he had months earlier), the staff asked me to come into the exam room to help the doctor calm him down. When I walked in, two nurses were holding him down in the chair, and the doctor (female) was practically yelling at him to be still. He was screaming so loud, his face was red. They asked me to help hold him still because the doctor was only half way through the procedure. I had to practically lay on top of him to keep him from moving. I understand that they have to deal with crying kids all day, and it's important for anyone getting dental work to be still, but I think they should realize that a crying 3-year-old doesn't understand what that means. And no kid should be scolded by their dentist in such a rude way. Here I was sitting in the waiting room (they wouldn't let me go back with him) thinking he was in good hands, not knowing that they were actually holding his hands and feet down and practically yelling at him. Pick a different dentist that actually understands little kids are scared - I did!

Pick a different dentist that actually understands little kids are scared - I did!

.

I took my son there when he was almost 3y/o. I had questions for the Office Staff and they treated me like I was bothering them. The female dentist started to give him an exam and insisted on 2 DAs to hold him down. They were not at all gentle when they held him down. In turn, about 6 minutes into the exam, I made them stop. The dentist was a witch & tried to tell me that I couldn't have the exam stopped. I WILL NEVER recommend this place to anyone!

This was the most horrible experience I could have ever had imagined for my 4 year old! They are rude and forceful with children when children are scared and apprehensive about the dentist office -NO gentle care here - NO caring about anyone except the dollar! Just get the kid in and out and charge the parent plenty even if they don't get anything done! I wouldn't take the worst criminal to this place - it would be cruel and unusual to even them! I can not say enough to get my point across - just STAY AWAY!

Performed procedure without consent. Unacceptable!!! They move them through like assembly line and perform procedures to drive revenue. Choose your healthcare professional wisely...not here.

The staff and doctors are friendly. I have to tell you though, that I felt that dental work may have been scheduled for borderline issues to increase revenues.

I first took my daughter to this dentist when she was 18 mo old. She loved it. There are lots of fun things for kids to do and the dentsts and other workers are really nice. She didn't cry or anything. The only thing I didn't really like was that the adults aren't allowed to go back with the kids to the dentist. I think this may be so the kids feel more comfortable, but I wasn't really comfortable doing it. Maybe I'll be better next time. :)
